Providing an ethnographic account of the everyday life of a household of artisans in the Telangana state of southern India, Chandan Bose engages with craft practice beyond the material (in this case, the region's characteristic murals, narrative cloth scrolls, and ritual masks and figurines). In situating the voice of the artisans themselves as the central focus of study, simultaneous and juxtaposing histories of craft practice emerge, through which artisans assemble narratives about work, home, and identity through multiple lenses. These perspectives include: the language artisans use to articulate their experience of materials, materiality, and the physical process of making; the shared and collective memory of practitioners through which they recount the genealogy of the practice; the everyday life of the household and its kinship practices, given the integration of the studio-space and the home-space; the negotiations between practitioners and the nation-state over matters of patronage; and the capacities of artisans to both conform to and affect the practices of the neo-liberal market.

The rapid rise in Covid-19 infection to a pandemic stage in the face of lack of few choices for treatment, prevention has taken a special purpose in this battle. The 1918 Spanish Flu with no vaccine to protect against the infection and no antibiotics to treat secondary bacterial infections associated with influenza infections, control efforts worldwide were limited to non-pharmaceutical interventions including, isolation, quarantine, good personal hygiene, use of disinfectants, and limitations of public gatherings, which were applied unevenly. These same measures hold good for Covid-19 pandemic today. Nutraceuticals and Functional foods for many reasons, largely its perceived safety, have gained popularity in disease prevention. Also, in the last 2-3 decades there have been well designed and controlled basic and clinical investigations that have steadily added credence to nutraceuticals for disease prevention. This book is a compilation of reviews of data on different nutraceuticals that may be of relevance to Covid-19 pandemic. These include, probiotics, melatonin, plant bioactive, lipoic acid, curcumin, selenium, zinc, magnesium and boron to name some.
Friction stir processing (FSP) is a solid state process in which a non consumable stirring (rotating) tool is plunged into a work piece up to half thickness, which causes intense plastic deformation, material mixing, and thermal exposure, resulting in refinement of micro structural properties, enhancement of mechanical properties, and homogeneity of the processed (nugget) zone. The FSP technique has been successfully used for producing fine-grained structure and surface composite, modifying the microstructure of materials, synthesizing composites like metal-metal composites. The use of FSP generates significant frictional heating and intense plastic deformation, thereby resulting in the occurrence of dynamic recrystallization in the stirred zone (SZ). Although there is still a controversy about the grain-refinement mechanism in the SZ, it is generally believed that the grain refinement is due to dynamic recrystallization. Therefore, the factors influencing the nucleation and growth of the dynamic recrystallization will determine the resultant grain microstructure in the SZ. It has been demonstrated that the FSP parameters, tool geometry, material chemistry, workpiece temperature, vertical pressure, and active cooling exert a significant effect on the size of the recrystallized grains in the SZ.

The tribal areas of central and eastern India have been under the intractable shadow of left-wing extremism in recent years, fuelling a serious internal crisis in the country. While the clashes between the Maoists and the State have been highlighted by the media, academics and others, the situation of the people caught between the crossfire has often been overlooked. Kindling of an Insurrection provides a gripping account of the lives of people in the conflict-affected district of Paschim Medinipur, West Bengal as experienced by a District Collector. By focusing on the plight of the people of Junglemahals — the term for the forested areas of the region — the author draws attention to the harsh living conditions, unstable occupations and almost non-existent education, highlighting the people’s lack of access to developmental schemes implemented by the government and non-governmental organisations. Based on extensive tour notes, the narrative attempts a subtle balance between a personal diary and official documentation, bringing to fore complexities, challenges and dynamics of the ground reality as also the administrative work carried out in the region. Accompanied by photographs, this book offers a rare chronicle of life in rural West Bengal, exposing the roots of the alienation of marginalised tribal communities, and the circumstances leading to the rise of an insurrection within the nation’s heartland. Authoritative and lucid, the book will be indispensable for scholars and researchers in the areas of public administration, social work, development studies, social anthropology and politics. It will also prove useful to policy makers, journalists and the general reader interested in West Bengal and left-wing extremism.

This is like Kafka in Deoria. Or Camus in the cow belt. But more accurate to say that Legal Fiction is an urgent, literary report about how truth goes missing in our land. I read it with a racing heart. -- Amitava Kumar, author of The Lovers Chandan Pandey goes looking for the story that lurks just out of sight, getting under the skin of news headlines and extracting a story that is as compelling as it is devastating. -- Annie Zaidi, author of Prelude to a Riot Chandan Pandey has written a brilliant, gripping political novel. Legal Fiction is a nuanced, absorbing snapshot of our times -- it captures the minefield of hate politics, the intricate almost invisible fault-lines in relationships, and the power of art in imagining a better society. -- Meena Kandasamy, author of When I Hit You The Hindi novel was already destined to be a marker for this era. Now this translation fills a big gap, for no work originally written in English in India has scratched the surface of what Legal Fiction approaches the cold, dark centre of. Here, in the form of a thriller and the tone of an elegy, is a sharp look at a terrifying Indian -ism and the currents against it. Be ready for a heart of darkness. -- Tanuj Solanki, author of Diwali in Muzaffarnagar Legal fiction: A rule assuming as true something that is clearly false. Often used to get around the provisions of constitutions and legal codes. A late-night phone call from his ex-girlfriend Anasuya forces writer Arjun Kumar to leave his wife and home in Delhi and travel to the mofussil town of Noma on the UP-Bihar border. The reason -- Anasuya's husband, Rafique Neel, a college professor and theatre director, has mysteriously disappeared. Soon after he arrives, Arjun realizes that things are not as they seem: the police are refusing to register a missing-persons case, Rafique's student Janaki has also disappeared, and the locals are determined to turn it into a case of 'love jihad'. And when Arjun begins to dig deeper, what he finds endangers him and everyone around him. Inspired by true events from today's India, Legal Fiction is a brilliant existential thriller and a chilling parable of our times.

Activated tungsten inert gas welding process involves a method of increasing penetration capability of the arc in TIG welding. This is achieved through the application of a thin coating of activated flux onto the joint surface prior to welding. This leads to strong joint. This paper deals with the study of microstructural and mechanical properties of aluminium alloy AA-6061 weld joints using A-TIG welding. During the experiment the welding current and gas flow rate are used as variable parameters and welding speed kept as constant. In this activated TIG welding process, there were five single component fluxes which are CdCl2, SiO2, MgO, Al2O3 and TiO2 used in the initial experiment to evaluate Welding current, Gas Flow Rate, Flux by joining plates by using A-TIG welds. Based on the higher penetration of weld bead, two single component fluxes SiO2 and TiO2 were selected for actual experiment. The values of optimum welding current and gas flow rate and flux was finding out from the experiment. Welding specimen were investigated using scanning electron microscope, vicker's micro hardness test and tensile strength. The SiO2 flux produced the most noticeable effect in terms of tensile strength and micro hardness.
Aluminium is the third most abundant element (after oxygen and silicon), and the most abundant metal in the Earth's crust. Aluminium is remarkable for the metal's low density and for its ability to resist corrosion due to the phenomenon of passivation. Structural components made from aluminium and its alloys are vital to the aerospace industry and are important in other areas of transportation and structural materials Welding plays a crucial role or say as a back bone of manufacturing industry to join the components. Friction stir welding (FSW) is a relatively new joining process that has been demonstrated in a variety of metals such as steel, titanium, lead, copper and aluminium. The unique properties of friction stir welds make possible some completely new structural designs with significant impact to ship design and construction. Friction stir welding is especially advantageous for joining aluminium and has been exploited commercially around the world in several industries. In the present work the effects of welding speed have been investigated on the microstructural and mechanical properties of friction stir welded aluminium alloy 6063. FSW was carried out at rotational speed of 1300 rpm (constant) and transverse speeds of 35, 50 and 65 mm/min. Mechanical performance has been investigated in terms of hardness, wear resistance and tensile strength. To study the effect of post welding heat treatment on properties of friction stir welded joint, the artificial ageing was carried out at 1600 C for a soaking period of 20 hours in the muffle furnace. The study revealed that friction stir welded joint prepared at welding speed of 35 mm/min exhibited better tensile strength, hardness and wear resistance. Better mechanical properties of the joint prepared at welding speed of 35 mm/min may be attributed due to fine, homogeneous and equaxed grain structure of stir zone. Post welding heat treatment of friction stir welded joint improved the wear resistance and microhardness of the joint. However tensile properties deteriorated with the post welding heat treatment of joint.

In the present study, optimization of chromium powder mixed EDM parameters is studied during machining of H13 tool steel. Four input parameters of powder mixed EDM, namely peak current, pulse on time, duty cycle and powder concentration, are varied, each at three levels, to get the optimum responses. Material removal rate (MRR), Tool wear rate (TWR) and Surface Roughness (Ra) are considered as performance measures. Copper electrode of 16 mm is used as the tool. Response Surface Methodology is used to correlate input and output parameters. The variation of responses due to variation in input parameters has been studied and shown in the form of surface plots and contour plots.
This research revolves around the impact of Enterprise Resource Planning in Indian industries. The ERP system stands for enterprise resource planning. It is fundamentally a data framework that joins distinctive subsystems into one framework. This operation is called integration. For example, an association has three fundamental data frameworks. The main framework handles HR; the second framework handles finance; and the third framework handles manufacturing. ERP integrate these three subsystems into one system that shares information among these subsystems. In other words, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) is described as an "information system package that integrates information and information based processes within and across functional areas in an organization”. The ERP framework ought to enhance efficiency for organization.

Buying decision making is a complicated process, in which a consumer’s decision is under the influence of others. The buyer’s decision making is directed in such a way that they must act as a consumer in society. Media and family are key socializing agents for adolescents. Moreover, changes in the socio-cultural environment in India necessitate that adolescents’ influence in family’s buying decision making should be investigated. In comparison to Western society, Indian society is quite different when compared in terms of family composition and structure, behavior, values and norms which impact adolescents’ buying decision making. Adolescents, Family and Consumer Behaviour studies the role of consumer socialization agents for adolescents, examining socio-economic factors that influence adolescents’ buying decision making in Indian urban families. It aims to discover the influence tactics that adolescents employ and to qualitatively analyse how marketers in turn influence adolescents. It addresses the topics with regard to strategic management and marketing and will be of interest to researchers, academics, practitioners, and students in the fields of management, entrepreneurship, small business management, and human resource management.
Electric Discharge Machining (EDM) is very important and prominent machining process among all the newly developed non -traditional machining techniques. This process is extremely useful for “difficult to machine” conducting materials such as heat treated tool steels, composites, super alloys, heat resistant steels, ceramics, carbides, etc. In this technique i.e. in EDM, the material removal of the electrode is achieved through high frequency sparks between the tool and the work-piece immersed into the dielectric. The Material Removal Rate (MRR), Tool Wear Rate (TWR) and surface roughness are some of the important performance parameter of EDM process. The objective of EDM is to get high MRR as well as achieving reasonably good surface quality of machined component. The machining parameters that achieve the highest MRR strongly depend on the size of the machining surface i.e. Electrode used and work-piece surface. With upcoming worldwide important applications of Non-Conductive ceramics machining has become an important issue which needs to be investigated in much detail. The Alumina (Al2O3), Glass and other advanced engineering ceramics are rapidly emerging class of engineering materials possessing a wide range of remarkable properties i.e. high hardness, chemical stability, very low friction, unique electrical properties and these engineering ceramics posses high wear resistance which make them highly suitable for such engineering applications as jet engines and other aeronautical components, tools and dies and electronic sensors.

In many rapidly urbanizing countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, local politics undermines the effectiveness of urban planning. Politicians have incentives to ignore formal urban plans and sideline planners, and instead provide urban land and services through informal channels in order to cultivate political constituencies (a form of what political scientists refer to as “clientelism”). This results in inequitable and environmentally damaging patterns of urban growth in some of the largest and most rapidly urbanizing countries in the world. The technocratic planning solutions often advocated by governments and international development organizations are not enough. To overcome this problem, urban planners must understand and adapt to the complex politics of urban informality. In this book, Chandan Deuskar explores how politicians in developing democracies provide urban land and services to the urban poor in exchange for their political support, demonstrates how this impacts urban growth, and suggests innovative and practical ways in which urban planners can try to be more effective in this challenging political context. He draws on literature from multiple disciplines (urban planning, political science, sociology, anthropology, and others), statistical analysis of global data on urbanization, and an in-depth case study of urban Ghana. Urban planners and international development experts working in the Global South, as well as researchers, educators, and students of global urbanization will find Urban Planning in a World of Informal Politics informative and thought-provoking.
