In the Toronto of the future, an AI called Monitor oversees all the city's infrastructure. Coordinating public transit and self-driving cars, gridlock is a thing of the past, along with surprises with city electrical and water systems. The system is foolproof and impenetrable—or so it's believed. The first intrusion into Monitor is innocuous enough: some graffiti that fools auto-pilots into stopping traffic. However, when a hacker interferes with water main monitoring, lives are put at risk. Suddenly, people start questioning the wisdom of leaving such essential systems in the hands of an AI that can be corrupted. Miles Franklin is the manager of tech support at Monitor Central, but his true advantage is his connection to the Gifted, people with heightened senses. His own ability to sense electrical pulses is joined by empaths and someone who can see the outcomes of decisions yet to be made. Another's affinity with plants clues the Gifted community in to a threat to the sole remaining corner of Toronto's once grand High Park, and it seems like the events are connected. It's going to take all the skills the Gifted have to prevent chaos and the destruction of the greenery they hold so dear.

iN Poochie’s favorite foods were red beans and rice, neck bones, gumbo with potato salad, and almost always, anytime, fried chicken. His favorite musical selections were “Tenderly”, by Nat King Cole and “When A Man Loves A Woman”, by Percy Sledge. His favorite past time was taking care of his dogs or getting someone else to take care of them. Either way, as long as the dogs had someone to look after them; he enjoyed having more than one at a time. Poochie was a quiet man who kept to himself most of the time. And the rest of the time you never knew what he was thinking, even if you asked him. He could look you dead in the face, without batting an eye, and tell you the biggest lie, while he held a wide smile on his face. This was not so bad. The bad part was that he was able to make you think that you should believe him. Many adults were very reserved about their opinions of Poochie, but the love he had for children was known by adults and children, alike.

Irish Women Playwrights 1900-1939 is the first book to examine the plays of five fascinating and creative women, placing their work for theatre in co-relation to suggest a parallel tradition that reframes the development of Irish theatre into the present day. How these playwrights dramatize violence and its impacts in political, social, and personal life is a central concern of this book. Augusta Gregory, Eva Gore-Booth, Dorothy Macardle, Mary Manning, and Teresa Deevy re-model theatrical form, re-structuring action and narrative, and exploring closure as a way of disrupting audience expectation. Their plays create stage spaces and images that expose relationships of power and authority, and invite the audience to see the performance not as illusion, but as framed by the conventions and limits of theatrical representation. Irish Women Playwrights 1900-1939 is suitable for courses in Irish theatre, women in theatre, gender and performance, dramaturgy, and Irish drama in the twentieth century as well as for those interested in women's work in theatre and in Irish theatre in the twentieth century.
This is the first study to use pedigrees of a mainstream English population to determine cousin marriage rates amongst ordinary labourers, tradesmen and farmers, and to demonstrate the association between cousin marriage, occupation, religious affiliation, geographical mobility and illegitimate reproductive experience. Using birthplace rather than place of residence, it shows the geographical source of spouses, their parents and grandparents. The marriage prospects of parents of illegitimate children and the children themselves are described, along with the association between being the mother of an illegitimate child and both low geographical mobility and high rates of cousin marriage.
