Life has never been easy for Holly; every day is a struggle to survive the hurt and pain she feels. Not only does she feel all alone, but, she's also dealing with a horrible secret about what happens to her almost daily behind closed doors. While Holly knows that she needs to tell someone, she can't bear the thought of not being believed. Her whole life, people have called her a liar, a troublemaker, and a bad influence, and in more ways than one, she has lived up to those labels. Determined to hide her secret, Holly goes to school each day angry and confused. She takes her anger and frustrations out on others, especially those who she feels have more than her. She becomes a bully, determined to hide her vulnerabilities by being a self-proclaimed mean girl. Matt Shulman is the new kid from LA and to Holly; he seems to have it all. However, contrary to what Holly believes, Matt does not have a perfect life. Confused and plagued with thoughts of wanting to rid themselves of their pain, Matt and Holly are drawn into events that end in unspeakable tragedy and heartache for both teens and their families.
After the crime of aggression was adopted under the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, Carrie McDougall used her intimate involvement in the crime's negotiations, combined with extensive scholarly reflection to produce the first and most comprehensive academic study. This updated second edition offers an exhaustive and sophisticated legal analysis of the crime's definition, as well as the provisions governing the ICC's exercise of jurisdiction over the crime. It explores the desirability of holding individuals to account for unlawful uses of inter-State armed force, the geo-political significance of the crime and a range of practical issues likely to arise in prosecutions before both the ICC and domestic courts. This book is highly relevant to all academics and practitioners interested in the crime of aggression, as well as broader issues relating to the prohibition of the use of force, international criminal law and the ICC.
This exhibition catalogue features recent works by artist Carrie Mae Weems included in LSU Museum of Art’s exhibition, Carrie Mae Weems: The Usual Suspects. The exhibition focuses on the humanity denied in recent killings of black men, women, and children by police. She directs our attention to the constructed nature of racial identity—specifically, representations that associate black bodies with criminality. Through a formal language of blurred images, color blocks, stated facts, and meditative narration, Weems directs our attention toward the repeated pattern of judicial inaction. In addition to full color plates of photographic and video works included in the exhibition, the catalogue features an introductory essay by Curator Courtney Taylor and transcripts by Carrie Mae Weems from video and photographic works included in the exhibition.
