Bring life to your robot using ROS robotic applications About This Book This book will help you boost your knowledge of ROS and give you advanced practical experience you can apply to your ROS robot platforms This is the only book that offers you step-by-step instructions to solidify your ROS understanding and gain experience using ROS tools From eminent authors, this book offers you a plethora of fun-filled examples to make your own quadcopter, turtlebot, and two-armed robots Who This Book Is For If you are a robotics developer, whether a hobbyist, researchers or professional, and are interested in learning about ROS through a hands-on approach, then this book is for you. You are encouraged to have a working knowledge of GNU/Linux systems and Python. What You Will Learn Get to know the fundamentals of ROS and apply its concepts to real robot examples Control a mobile robot to navigate autonomously in an environment Model your robot designs using URDF and Xacro, and operate them in a ROS Gazebo simulation Control a 7 degree-of-freedom robot arm for visual servoing Fly a quadcopter to autonomous waypoints Gain working knowledge of ROS tools such as Gazebo, rviz, rqt, and Move-It Control robots with mobile devices and controller boards In Detail The visionaries who created ROS developed a framework for robotics centered on the commonality of robotic systems and exploited this commonality in ROS to expedite the development of future robotic systems. From the fundamental concepts to advanced practical experience, this book will provide you with an incremental knowledge of the ROS framework, the backbone of the robotics evolution. ROS standardizes many layers of robotics functionality from low-level device drivers to process control to message passing to software package management. This book provides step-by-step examples of mobile, armed, and flying robots, describing the ROS implementation as the basic model for other robots of these types. By controlling these robots, whether in simulation or in reality, you will use ROS to drive, move, and fly robots using ROS control. Style and approach This is an easy-to-follow guide with hands-on examples of ROS robots, both real and in simulation.
Arguing that a woman's body shape is an indicator of her future health, a lifestyle guide discusses the biological factors that correspond with a range of diseases while recommending specific diet, exercise, and treatment options.
Group litigation has been recognised by political scientists in the States as a useful method of gaining ground and attracting publicity for pressure groups since the turn of the century. In Britain however, recognition that the courts fill such a role has come more slowly. Despite this lack of recognition, pressure through law is far from a modern phenomenon. As the authors show, such cases can be identified in Britain as early as 1749 when abolitionists used the court to test conflicting views of slavery in common law. This book looks at the extent to which pressure groups in Britain use litigation, presenting a view of the courts as a target for campaigners and a vehicle for campaigning. It begins with a description of the tradition of pressure through law in Britain, tracing the development of a parallel tradition in the United States, which has been influential in shaping current British attitudes. The authors analyse the significance of the political environment in Britain in test-case strategy. In contrast with America, Britain has no written constitution and no Bill of Rights and its lack of Freedom of Information legislation makes both litigation and the monitoring of its effects very difficult. However, the centralised character of the British government means that the effects of lobbying are rather more visible in the corridors of power. The authors examine a large number of case studies in order to analyse current practice, and they look at the rapidly changing European and international scene, discussing transnational law, the European community and the Council of Europe. They also look at the campaign tactics of global organisations such as Amnesty and Greenpeace. Carol Harlow and Richard Rawlings are experienced in public law and familiar with political science literature. They are therefore able to relate legal systems to the political process, in a book designed to be accessible and important to lawyers, to political scientists and to lobby group activists.
In an examination of the impact of education policy on Australia's diverse student population, this book asks if increasing the years of compulsory schooling can make the positive social impact its proponents claim. The authors' analysis reveals a policy disjuncture wrought by competing agendas of increased school leaving age and school choice.
Media and Communications during COVID-19 looks at the role the media had in informing the public about COVID-19. Journalists tried to keep up with ever-evolving information, and the public at times struggled to know whether the media could be trusted. Features include a glossary, references, websites, source notes, and an index. Aligned to Common Core Standards and correlated to state standards. Essential Library is an imprint of Abdo Publishing, a division of ABDO.
You've tried eating lots of protein, grape-fruit, rice cakes, or cottage cheese. You've tried not eating much of anything at all. You've tried diets recommended by doctors, models, actresses, or tabloids. But the pounds don't melt away like they're supposed to, and, even worse, they come back fast." "Bodystat can change all that. How? Not by changing the size of your dinner plate or how many times you chew your food or by sending you off to buy food you never heard of, but by changing your understanding of food and how your body uses it. In Bodystat, authors Eric Witt and Carol Wirth explain in clear, easy-to-understand language the scientific principles underlying the "set point" at which the body begins to resist fat loss, and how it can be reset. It's not time-consuming, expensive, complicated, or painful. In fact, it's as simple as low-fat eating and moderate exercise. Yes, you've heard that before, but here the authors walk you through how to understand labels, menus, and all that confusing exercise advice, so you can develop your own plan for lowering your fat "set point." Best of all, they offer lots of choices that you can tailor to your own preferences and habits." "Eric and Carol know their advice can help you, because it has helped so many of their friends and workshop participants. Carol's colleagues kept asking her how she could eat so much and look so good. They didn't know that Carol had yo-yoed for years while trying fad diets before she and Eric researched developing a healthier lifestyle that would work for them. Soon they were advising friends, then giving popular workshops, and now are sharing their ideas in Bodystat. They've included dozens of practical tips, twenty-seven of their favorite recipes, and, most important, the principles about diet and exercise that will empower you to be healthier and happier with your body - forever. You don't have to try to follow day-by-day diets full of food you hate or diagrammed exercises you can't figure out. With Bodystat you will see the big picture - and smile!"--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. All Rights Reserved
