In The Psychiatric Witness In Court: What Mental Health Professionals Need to Know, Cal Colarusso documents how the psychiatric profession plays a vital role in the legal process. Reports of evaluations and psychological test reports are provided, in addition to examples of direct testimony and cross-examination taken from actual cases. Colarusso ultimately demystifies the process by demonstrating that the well-prepared mental health expert has little to fear from cross-examination.

Texas pride, like everything else in the state, is larger than life. So, too, perhaps, are the state's challenges. Lone Star Tarnished approaches public policy in the nation's most populous "red state" from historical, comparative, and critical perspectives. The historical perspective provides the scope for asking how various policy domains have developed in Texas history, regularly reaching back to the state's founding and with substantial data for the period 1950 to the present. In each chapter, Cal Jillson compares Texas public policy choices and results with those of other states and the United States in general. Finally, the critical perspective allows us to question the balance of benefits and costs attendant to what is often referred to as "the Texas way" or "the Texas model." Jillson delves deeply into seven substantive policy chapters, covering the most important policy areas in which state governments are active. Through his lively and lucid prose, students are well equipped to analyze how Texas has done and is doing compared to selected states and the national average over time and today. Readers will also come away with the necessary tools to assess the many claims of Texas's exceptionalism.

This book provides the most up-to-date assessment of Israel's society today, portraying the country's ethnic diversity, its economy, and demographic changes. Revealing linkages between demographic transformation and socioeconomic change, Goldscheider shows how ethnic group formation emerged in Israel to create the present mix of Jewish and Arab populations. He also reviews the policies of Palestinian and Israeli governments concerning immigration, describing the ways in which socioeconomic development within Israel, urbanization, and industrialization have evolved through the use of outside capital and increasing dependency. The book reveals two unique sets of processes about Israel today. The first concerns important changes in marriage, family and intermarriage, educational attainment and occupational achievement, ethnic politics, religion, and the changing role of women. A second but related concern pertains to the social and economic contexts of community life. Here Goldscheider investigates rapid change among Israel's major urban centers, towns, and agricultural centers, including the Kibbutz as well as Arab communities. In concluding chapters, the author discusses the role of government in shaping population policy, including health, fertility, and contraceptive and abortion issues. He also describes the influence of Jewish communities outside of Israel and the impact of the Middle East conflict with Arab states on Israel's domestic policy as well as the conflict with populations in territories administered by Israel since 1967. Likely to be a standard reference for years to come, the book is essential reading for political scientists, sociologists, anthropologists, and historians concerned with Israel's politics and society.

Family man John Clark fights to hold career and relationships intact while opinionated libertarian Jimmy Bulwark rages alone against heavy-handed government restraints. For generations, men have left their homes and families to defend their country while their wives, mothers and daughters remained safely at home, outwardly unaffected. A closer examination reveals that women have always been directly impacted by war. In the last few years, they have actively participated on the front lines. This book tells the story of the women who documented the impact of war on their lives through their art. It includes works by professional artists and photographers, combat artists, ordinary women who documented their military experiences, and women who worked in a variety of types of needlework. Taken together, these images explore the female consciousness in wartime.
My book is my autobiography: it is told in a short story form; all about the highs and the many lows I experienced, and the decisions I made, that propelled me to both my successes, and my many failures that I reached out seeking to find! (I always hoped for the best; I expected I might find the very worst; and usually it would fall somewhere in between: that way, I was seldom if ever, disappointed!) I always tried to treat people I met, with the same respect, as I wanted them to show to me in return. I know I could have done better than I did most times, but I truly never took "LOVE" lightly, nor did I tell women I met, that I loved them, just because it was convenient to do so! I often tried to express my feelings, the best way I could with most of the poetry I wrote, with honestly, and a sincere amount - of humility, and inspiration! If I could change only one thing in my life: I would try to have been a better roll model to my kids, and to have been - a better father, and grand pa! My book covers a one of a kind story of my meeting, and beating "Evel Kneivel at his own game twice; and my struggle with alcohol; my Serious Gambling addiction, and my Deadly fight with Cancer!
