Four thousand years in the future, the Republic of Earth is at war with the oppressive Yajiran Empire. Meanwhile, on a primitive world, a half-human/half-Yajiran girl named Avala learns that her people’s beliefs are lies created by the Yajirans to keep them in a primitive state, so they can rule over them. While working with the Republic of Earth’s intelligence service in a collaborative effort to free her planet from its alien overlords, she discovers she has the same psychic and body-swapping powers that the elite Yajirans, the Yajixa, possess. In the process of learning how to master these powers, she awakens a long-lost precursor race from her planet called the Echarikith, who have magical god-like powers. The Echarikith offer to help Avala in her quest to free her people, in exchange for her help in freeing them from being enslaved in the Yajixa’s mindscapes. This is the beginning of Avala’s lifelong journey to become one of the spirits of the mindscapes.
Set one year after the start of Book 1. Avala finds herself fighting off a new enemy, this time, one of shadows and death. She narrowly escapes the clutches of the Echhaar, the Echarikith severed after the fall of their seventh core. However, it is not without a cost, as a friend is left behind, and a city on Earth is turned to rubble. Avala's journey continues is this sequel to Avala Book 1: Hope. However, this time, the forces of Death come to claim everything. Not only that but the Yajiran Empire will stop at nothing to assure victory over the Republic, using this new enemy to their advantage. Will Avala survive the forces of the Echhaar? Will she stop the plans of the Yajiran Empire? Who will die, and who will survive? This is Avala's second step to becoming one of the Spirits of the Mindscapes.

For most ordinary Englishmen, venturing off into the depths of unexplored America would have been a once in a lifetime adventure: but not for Stephen. By the time he turned forty, he had already survived a hurricane, been shipwrecked in the Bermuda Triangle, been written into a Shakespearean play, witnessed the famine and abandonment of Jamestown Colony, and participated in the marriage of Pocahontas. He was once even sentenced to death! He got himself and his family onto the Pilgrims’ Mayflower, and helped found Plymouth Colony. He signed the Mayflower Compact, lodged the famous Squanto in his house, participated in the legendary Thanksgiving, and helped guide and govern the early colonists. Yet Stephen was just an ordinary man, with a wife, three sons, seven daughters, a small house, some farmland for his corn, and cows named Motley, Sympkins, Curled, and Red. These are the extraordinary adventures of an ordinary man.

Literally Billions of Quips, in the Worlds First Quip Thesaurus title has to be the most preposterous claim in history, excepting, of course, claims that Obamacare will reduce costs, etc. Whats shocking, is that the Quip Thesaurus explains how to create literally billions of quips in the first two dozen pages, coupled with another dozen pages in an appendix. Even with a mere two billion, thats an average in excess of 55.5 million per page. Atwood distinguishes quips from jokes on the basis of their objectives. The difference between them, he maintains, is that the objective of jokes is to get laughs while the objective of quips is to express opinions. He advocates employing alliteration and rhyme in quips because, they are the music of language that increase the likelihood that opinions will make impressions, have staying power and be repeated. Insofar as the sub-title Resource for writers when good enough isnt is concerned, extensive lists of verbs, adverbs and adjectives sans, definitions listed alphabetically in Quip Thesaurus appendices for creating quips, are convenient resources for anyone looking for the most effective words to express themselves or anxious to confirm those they have in mind are the most effective. All such words are in dictionaries, of course, but wading hundreds of thousands of definitions in tiny print to find them can be a tedious, tiresome and time-consuming task.

Don't Get Trapped is a compilation of short stories, poems and haikus all written by junior high school student, Caleb Shaw. The inspiration behind Don't Get Trapped encapsulates the idea and philosophy of not getting stuck within a negative mindset, or lifestyle. Shaw believes that getting trapped within a negative thought pattern is something that's incredibly dangerous and that becoming aware of yourself and your thoughts is something that's extremely imperative. All of the works within this book were written, gathered and compiled within the short period of just three months in Shaw's junior creative writing class at Philomath High School (with the exception of "Why I Write").
Winner of the 2021 Permafrost Prize in fiction Magical, heartfelt, and surprisingly funny, Sin Eaters paints a tumultuous picture of religion and repression while hinting at the love and connection that come with healing. The powerful stories in Caleb Tankersley’s debut collection illuminate the shadowy edges of the American Midwest, featuring aspects of religion, sex and desire, monsters and magic, and humor. Tankersley’s characters—including swamp creatures looking for love, pothead pastors, ghosts obsessed with TV, and a Jesus made of rust—arrive at the crossroads of pleasure and hunger in a world that is equal parts playful, hopeful, and dark. In “Never Been More in Love” a man must come to terms with his wife’s degenerative illness. “Uncle Bob” explores suicide attempts as a family heirloom. And the titular story follows a woman who must accept her monstrous role to find redemption for herself and her small town. Sin Eaters is a fight for authenticity in a world that is mysterious, muggy, and punctured by violence. This stunning collection full of complex themes will both challenge and delight.

Other Voices, Other Towns" has, in reality, taken Caleb Pirtle III a lifetime to write. During the thirty years he has been writing about travel across this great land, he spent much of his time listening to those whose paths he crossed. Pirtle collects people. He collects their stories. He is firmly convinced that everyone who has ever walked across the street has a great story to tell if only someone will take the time to listen. Pirtle has recorded many of them in "Other Voices, Other Towns." The sketches, the anecdotes, the tales they tell, the memories they have stored, their lessons of life make you feel better or make you want to cry. Their stories are filled with disappointments and with inspiration: The blind man who tends his beehives in the Smoky Mountains and knows that someday "I'm going to where the mountains are higher and prettier and you don't get bee stung." The rancher who bought a whole town because it had a beer joint, and he could get a drink any time he was thirsty. The woman who built a major university on the strength of a dime. The grieving father searching for "the best little girl in the world." The vagabond who became a great writer because he flunked grammar and could not enroll in college. The last man on the mountain, the last survivor on an island, the last woman strong enough to tame though not civilize the Okefenokee Swamp. The teacher who taught history in school by singing the lessons he had written as songs. The men who created "Lum and Abner." The scientist digging for clues to prove a space ship had crashed in the backyard of Aurora, Texas. The performer who rescued the abandoned remains of a crumbling theater. The actor who figured out that a theater ticket was worth a mess of greens or a gallon milk during the Great Depression. The old con artist and wildcatter who defied the odds and discovered a great oilfield. The politician who had one cause, passed it in the legislature, and went home because there were no other bills that concerned him. The fishermen who stumbled across pearls in a landlocked lake. The girl singer who rode in a small RV behind the star until she became the star. The sad journey down the trail of broken promises. And the greatest worm fiddler of them all. For Pirtle, other voices in other towns, have all been joined together to form the traveler's story.
