This book provides a comprehensive presentation of artificial intelligence (AI) methodologies and tools valuable for solving a wide spectrum of engineering problems. What's more, it offers these AI tools on an accompanying disk with easy-to-use software. Artificial Intelligence and Expert Systems for Engineers details the AI-based methodologies known as: Knowledge-Based Expert Systems (KBES); Design Synthesis; Design Critiquing; and Case-Based Reasoning. KBES are the most popular AI-based tools and have been successfully applied to planning, diagnosis, classification, monitoring, and design problems. Case studies are provided with problems in engineering design for better understanding of the problem-solving models using the four methodologies in an integrated software environment. Throughout the book, examples are given so that students and engineers can acquire skills in the use of AI-based methodologies for application to practical problems ranging from diagnosis to planning, design, and construction and manufacturing in various disciplines of engineering. Artificial Intelligence and Expert Systems for Engineers is a must-have reference for students, teachers, research scholars, and professionals working in the area of civil engineering design in particular and engineering design in general.
The book deals matters of K-K Line, including: (a) Survey by S.E.Railway from 1956-60, Construction by D.B.K. Railway from 1960-68, and Operation & Maintenance by S.E.Railway from 1968-82. (b) Mining and loading of Iron Ore at Kirandul and Bacheli, Handling by Visakhapatnam Port Trust in loading into Ships at the Outer Harbor. (c) Provision of Track Structure of 90R, 52kg and 60 kg rails in stages on 8 curves & steep gradients of 1 in 60 and 1 in 80 covering 46 Tunnels and 14 Cut & Covers. (d) Problems of Wagons & Locomotives, and design considerations for use of heavier contact and catenary wires for Railway Electrification in continuous raising gradient Dantewara-Silakhjhori section. (e) Important events occurred in Waltair Division from 1976-81, such as mega block for working of 8 material trains for lifting released Permanent Way materials; opening of K-K Line for Passenger Traffic. Emergency working on Waltair Division due sudden floods in Vamsadhara river near Srikakulam blocking both Main Lines and R-V line for 18 days; inaugural function for a new railway line connecting Koraput to Rayagada by Chief Minister of Odissa; instances of cyclonic damages and consequent blocking of Boddavara-Shimiliguda section for traffic for 30 days and more; and restoration operations carried out in 1983, 1990 and 2014 by CAOR (Construction), E. C. Railway, Waltair. Further, it recounts Author's experiences elsewhere in CPWD, S.E.Railway, IRCON, RITES and Private Companies.
The hereditary retinopathy, retinitis pigmentosa (RP), which affects 1 in 3,500 people worldwide, is the most common cause of registered visual handicap among those of the working age in developed countries. RP is a highly variable disorder where patients may develop symptomatic visual loss in early childhood, while others may remain asymptomatic until mid-adulthood. Most cases of RP segregate in autosomal dominant, recessive or X-linked recessive modes, with approximately 41 genes being implicated in disease pathology to date (RetNet). The extensive genetic heterogeneity associated with autosomal dominant RP (adRP) is an undisputed hindrance to the development of genetically based therapeutics.

This book presents modern software technology and the tools necessary for teaching computer aided design and developing application software in the area of engineering design. The C programming language is presented and its importance for developing efficient and portable software is highlighted. Programming for graphics is described using the Graphical Kernel System, and drafting is illustrated through the package AutoCAD. Database structures and database mana- gement techniques are introduced to meet the needs of appli- cation programmers. Knowledge-based expert systems are pre- sented with illustrations to show the potential use of this AI technology for engineering design. Finite element analy- sis provides powerful numerical techniques for engineering analysis, and widely used packages are discussed. Optimiza- tion techniques can help the engineer arrive at an economi- cal design solution, and a brief description is given of so- mewidely used numerical algorithms. Typical CAD applica- tions are described, with references, and integrated softwa- re requirements for CAD are discussed. In addition to the examples in the text, exercises are given at the end of each chapter to provide experience in using the tools presented for the development of CAD software.
