This book describes the many diverse experiences of a very active pediatrician from 1943 to 1988. This story begins when he was in medical school in 1943 and ends with his retirement thirty-seven years later in 1988. It includes post retirement stints as a Medical Director for a medical software company and being the Medical Director for a commercial plasma collecting center. He vividly describes many different and unusual medical cases including two true Miracles. One occurred in 1952 during the horrendous polio epidemic, Connie and the other one in the 1970s, Thumbelina. These Miracles are described vivid detail with all of their agonizing twists and turns. Neither patient should have survived with their many complications and circumstances, but with Gods grace they did. This book contains unusual and different exotic medical encounters when the author was in Japan while in the Army Medical Corps in 1949-1950. This book details why and how he had to become a pseudo-specialist in several fields in his early and middle practice years. There were few, if any, trained specialists during those early years. Dr. Oberst portrays a full and productive professional life in many ways which are described in this tome. This book is a pleasant and interesting read for everyone to enjoy. It contains humor, vivid descriptions, happiness, agonies, and pathos.

This book is a tale of a young chap who was raised by the Lakota Sioux. He was imbued with gifts few persons possessed. He grew and developed into an outstanding man who was fearless. He worked various jobs from being a ranch hand where he encountered a prairie fire, rustlers, a cattle drive, a stampede, hostile cattle robbers, and hostile Indians. He was able to rescue his future sweetheart from nefarious villains concerning terrible fates not once but twice. He encountered gold robbers, a crooked gambler, and aided in subduing a large gang of outlaws bent on terrorizing the defenseless settlers. He joined the Texas Rangers where his adventures placed him in many precarious situations including a range war and confronting a crooked and ruthless sheriff. He was almost killed in a planned ambush. His life was saved in an unorthodox manner by his future bride.

He began a most unique pediatric training and encountered many different states of disease, and it shows how he learned to cope with them. He learns about the inherent dangers in the field of pediatrics during his sojourn, and it tells how he met and fell head over heels in love with his everything, Marylou. By necessity, he is forced to learn how to successfully multitask and to handle very important situations that most people in pediatric training never encounter. A fascinating story.

This is the story of the pluck, courage, and adventuresome nature of a young teen who was orphaned early in life and raised by an older childless fisherman couple. His early life was spent in a small fishing village. Through his courage, he was able to save the life of his future benefactor who opened the world to Geoffrey and his ambition to be a part of the British Royal Navy. Through the assistance of his benefactor, he obtains an appointment as a midshipman in HMS Orpheus whence his adventures begin. He encounters pirates in the Caribbean area where he seizes the opportunities to fight for England and a better way of life for the colonists. After many exciting adventures, he returns to England, is knighted by the King, and given a command of a frigate to wage war against Napoleons forces on the Spanish coastline where he further distinguishes himself by his ingenuity and resourcefulness. He participates in the historical battle of Trafalgar which saves England from being invaded by French forces. This story is fraught with action, romance, and a certain amount of realism. It should appeal to all ages and walks of life.
