In our society, bullying is commonly seen as a normal, inescapable part of growing up that children and adolescents must simply endure. In Bullying, Suicide, and Homicide, Butch Losey challenges this viewpoint, arguing that bullying is not a part of childhood development, but rather an aberrant behavior that, for the victim, can lead to adverse decisions, such as suicide and homicide. He provides a detailed understanding of the relationship between bullying, suicide, and homicide and an assessment and response strategy that can be utilized by mental health professionals who work with children and adolescents. This strategy involves a three stage ecological approach: screening to identify warning signs for bullying, depression, suicide, and violence by means of the Bullying Lethality Identification System (BLIS), developed by Losey and a colleague; assessing the risks of suicide and threats of violence using specially tailored forms and tools; and mediating to identify appropriate interventions. All of the associated tools and forms that the author has created are included as appendices and on the accompanying downloadable resources. Losey’s sensitive and compassionate treatment of this important subject will inform and motivate mental health professionals in their work with victims of bullying.

After almost dying and being in the ICU for thirty-seven days, ten of them in a coma, fifty days total in the hospital, I started writing a journal. I couldnt talk well and had to go to speech therapy. I couldnt walk and went to physical therapy. I couldnt write and had to retrain myself by writing in my journal. My muscles in my body felt useless, and I had to start over. I was determined to get back 100 percent especially after I found out that the doctors wanted to pull the plug on me several times. As I started writing, I couldnt read a word, but I kept at it, determined to win my battle. I practiced over and over to get better. I started to write down what was in my heart. It was a way to recuperate. I was supposed to die, but God wanted me to live for some reason. As I wrote in my journals, my experiences stated coming out as poems. I started sharing my poems to hurting people. Many doors opened as I shared my experiences. I hope you will enjoy my healing adventure through my poetry.

Because of the corrupt sheriff's influence, no one was ever charged with the murder. The story follows the life of the sheriff's son from 1961 to his death in 1998. The son was on the edges of many similar murders of young girls in the Houston and Galveston areas-but he was never charged. After 1961, the sheriff's son was arrested twice for the rape of 12-year-old girls, essentially walking away from these charges due to the connections of his father. After the deaths of the father and son, former wives and step children, no longer terrified-came forward. They tell a horrific story of brutality, rape, incest and murder at the hands of the son. Our novel connects the dots and makes the case that a serial killer went to his grave never charged with his many crimes against young women.

The following story is a fact-based account of my life. The title of this writing was intentional owing the stigma often placed upon children conceived and born out of wedlock and marked by the label of “Illegitimate”. The term Love-Child is a substitute for the original word (Bastard), which could be thought of as profane. The first word in the title of this essay, Ignominious: refers to the shame, dishonor or disgrace often felt by people born under these conditions. Bastard: references the illegitimacy of the child’s birth and the absence of matrimonially linked parents. Both words, which offer a rather uncomfortable air, only offer a descriptive reference to the first phase of an individual’s life. They, in no way, represent an actual person’s attitude, temperament or social presence. It is my hope that you enjoy what I have written and that when you have had time to review what you have read a tiny light will appear giving you a better understanding of yourself your family and humanity. As for me, putting my thoughts, memories and feelings down on paper was rewarding, relaxing and educational, because with each word, sentence, paragraph and page, I gained just a little more insight into myself.

On this night our lead character (Studs) shoots and kills two people and wounds five others. Studs, is organized by year. From 1972 when I moved to South Carolina until 1979 when this incident takes place. This story chronicles my life and the life of the lead character (Studs)along with many of the classmates that we grew up with in the 70's. It takes a close look at black on black racism, and deals with growing up as a black male in the 70's without a father.
