Dan Bullock was born on December 21, 1953, in Goldsboro, NC to Brother Bullock and Alma Floyd Bullock, being the only boy with three sisters, Lois, Porter and Gloria. Being a member of the E. A. House Boys Club at the age of 10 years old, Dan got to go on a field trip to Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, located on the outskirts of Goldsboro. While on this field trip, Dan was one of the few who got to sit inside the cockpit of a B-52 airplane. Which sparked his obsession with the military move than ever in his young life; moreover, thus enhancing his dreams to enlist into the military once he becomes of age. Ever since Dan was little, he would play war games in the back yard on Griffin Street with his nephew, after becoming bored with playing Cowboys and Indians. His favorite war game was World War II. Upon learning of the Buffalo Soldiers from his father and other adults, Dan became even more obsessed with becoming a soldier. His desire to fly an airplane was enhanced when he learned about the Tuskegee Airmen, a group of primary African American military pilots, and airmen who fought in World War ll for the United States Army. Dan’s whole world was turned upside down on July 17, 1965, when his mother Alma passed away just 37-days shy of her 45th birthday, when he was only 11-years old. His father moved to Brooklyn, New York. He took the youngest sister with him. Dan would continue to live with an aunt, before staying with his sisters. Eventually he went to Brooklyn, because he wanted to make sure his baby sister Gloria was safe and in school, doing well. During the summer of 1968, at a time when grown were fleeing to Canada and other places, or enrolling in Colleges and Universities to avoid being drafted to fight in the Vietnam War. Dan decided to enlist and fight for his Country at the tender age of just 14-years old.

Orthodox Calvinists, loyal to both scholastic philosophy and the quasi-monarchical House of Orange, saw their world turned upside down with the sudden death of Prince William II and no heir to take his place. The Republicans seized this opportunity to create a decentralized government favourable to Holland's trading interests and committed to religious and philosophical tolerance. The now ruling regent class, freshly trained in the new philosophy of Descartes, used it as a weapon to fight against monarchical tendencies and theological orthodoxy. And so began a great pamphlet debate about Cartesianism and its political and religious consequences. This important new book begins by examining key Radical Cartesian pamphlets and Spinoza's role in a Radical Cartesian circle in Amsterdam, two topics rarely discussed in the English literature. Next, Nyden-Bullock examines Spinoza's political writings and argues that they should not be seen as political innovations so much as systemizations of the Radical Cartesian ideas already circulating in his time. The author goes on to reconstruct the development of Spinoza's thinking about the human mind, truth, error, and falsity and to explain how this development, particularly the innovation of parallelism - the lynchpin of his system - allowed Spinoza to provide philosophical foundations for Radical Cartesian political theory. She concludes that, contrary to general opinion, Spinoza's rejection of Cartesian epistemology involves much more than the metaphysical problems of dualism - it involves, ironically, Spinoza's attempt to make coherent a political theory bearing Descartes's name.

On June 25, 2013, the U.S. Supreme Court handed down its decision in Shelby County v. Holder, invalidating a key provision of voting rights law. The decision—the culmination of an eight-year battle over the power of Congress to regulate state conduct of elections—marked the closing of a chapter in American politics. That chapter had opened a century earlier in the case of Guinn v. United States, which ushered in national efforts to knock down racial barriers to the ballot. A detailed and timely history, The Rise and Fall of the Voting Rights Act analyzes changing legislation and the future of voting rights in the United States. In tracing the development of the Voting Rights Act from its inception, Charles S. Bullock III, Ronald Keith Gaddie, and Justin J. Wert begin by exploring the political and legal aspects of the Jim Crow electoral regime. Detailing both the subsequent struggle to enact the law and its impact, they explain why the Voting Rights Act was necessary. The authors draw on court cases and election data to bring their discussion to the present with an examination of the 2006 revision and renewal of the act, and its role in shaping the southern political environment in the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections, when Barack Obama was chosen.
