This second collection of Brian Coote's previously published writings is for the most part a follow-up to his Contract as Assumption (Hart Publishing, 2010). Part of the theme of that collection was that in a bilateral contract the obligations of the parties, both primary and secondary, are those which at formation they have each assumed, that is, have taken upon themselves. Being exchanged at the point of formation, these assumptions constitute the consideration. The institution of contract provides a facility the purpose of which is to enable the parties thereby to bind themselves to legal (contractual) obligation. This emphasis on what happens at formation has prompted the inclusion of several of the papers in this collection. These focus on intention, offer and acceptance, the qualification of primary and secondary obligations whether express or implied, agency, and the effect of illegality on pre-existing rights. Falling outside this group are two pieces respectively on chance and the burden of proof and on impecuniosity, in each case in tort as well as in contract. The collection ends with the author's valedictory lecture, 'Contract: An Underview'. In this paper, delivered on his retirement from the University of Auckland, he summed up his thinking on Contract. It is now for the first time given general currency.

The history of DOGH Macdonnell Gardens. Created as a community of homes on the outskirts of Watford, England, for disabled married officers and their families after WW1. and from which assistance could be given to get them back into employment. Priority was given to career officers suffering from mental trauma. The project was patronised by royalty and supported by major industrialists initially and administered for many years by the Officers' Association until Haig Housing Trust became the sole Trustee in 2011. This is the black and white paperback edition; a full colour hard cover edition and an ebook are also available.

The book explores the notion of Gypsy and Traveller ethnicity and provides a critique of the conceptual basis of racial and ethnic categorisation. An analysis of the post-war housing situation is given in order to illustrate a connection between social and economic conditions, legislation affecting gypsies and travellers and the visibility and general consciousness of the gypsy and traveller population. The originality of the book lies in its argument that the position of gypsies and travellers largely arises out of social conditions and interaction rather than political, biological or ideological determinants. It puts forward the notion of an ethnic narrative of traveller identity and illustrates how variations of this have been defensively deployed by some travellers and elaborated on by theorists. Belton focuses on the social generation of travellers as a cultural, ethnic and racial categorization, offering a rational explanation of the development of an itinerant population that is less ambiguous and more informative in terms of the social nature of the gypsy and traveller position than interpretations based on 'blood', 'breed', 'stock', ethnicity or race that dominate the literature.

In 1930, Pope Pius XI canonized the group of missionaries, known as the eight North American Martyrs, whose feast the Catholic Church now celebrates every October 19. The Jesuits in Quebec, New France, published for some time in the seventeenth century a high-quality literary report or chronicles known as the Relations des Jésuites de la Nouvelle-France. A section of these chronicles presented the Mass and the sacraments developed with the Hurons who had joined the Church. This aspect had been neglected for more recent study. Hungarian Bishop Attila Miklósházy SJ, directed a thesis in Toronto to fill this gap. The core of the study is presented here. This was the liturgy before the Jesuit missionaries and their Huron allies were massacred and became the North American Martyrs.
