Within the context of the Wedderburn-Malcev theorem a radical complement exists and all complements are conjugated. The main topics of this work are to analyze the Determination of a (all) radical complements, the representation of an element as the sum of a nilpotent and fully separable element and the compatibility of the Wedderburn-Malcev theorem with derived structures. Answers are presented in details for commutative and solvable associative algebras. Within the analysis the set of fully-separable elements and the generalized Jordan decomposition are of special interest. We provide examples based on generalized quaternion algebras, group algebras and algebras of traingular matrices over a field. The results (and also the theorem of Wedderburn-Malcev and Taft) are transferred to non-unitary algebras by using the star-composition and the adjunction of an unit. Within the App endix we present proofs for the Wedderburn-Malcev theorem for unitary algebras, for Taft's theorem on G-invariant radical complements for unitary algebras and for a theorem of Bauer concerning solvable unit groups of associative algebras.

During the author’s doctorate time at the Christian-Albrechts-Universitat to Kiel, Salvatore Siciliano gave a stimulating talk in the upper seminar algebra theory about Cartan subalgebras in Lie algebra associates to associative algebra. This talk was the incentive for the author to analyze maximal nilpotent substructures of the Lie algebra associated to associative algebras. In the present work Siciliano's theory about Cartan subalgebras is worked off and expanded to different special associative algebra classes. In addition, a second maximal nilpotent substructure is analyzed: the nilradical. Within this analysis the main focus is to describe these substructure with the associative structure of the underlying algebra. This is successfully realized in this work. Numerous examples (like group algebras and Solomon (Tits-) algebras) illustrate the results to the reader. Within the numerous exercises these results can be applied by the reader to get a deeper insight in this theory.

Sensory Linguistics is the interdisciplinary study of how language relates to the senses. This book deals with such foundational questions as: Which semiotic strategies do speakers use to express sensory perceptions? Which perceptions are easier to encode and which are “ineffable”? And what are appropriate methods for studying the sensory aspects of linguistics? After a broad overview of the field, a detailed quantitative corpus-based study of English sensory adjectives and their metaphorical uses is presented. This analysis calls age-old ideas into question, such as the idea that the use of perceptual metaphors is governed by a cognitively motivated “hierarchy of the senses”. Besides making theoretical contributions to cognitive linguistics, this research monograph showcases new empirical methods for studying lexical semantics using contemporary statistical methods.

Thus Buddhism needs a true restorative flowering to rival that of the renaissance of debate and innovative thinking of the early post-Nāgārjunian era. In order to achieve this it must synthesise the present wealth of scientific knowledge, alongside the best of the Western world’s philosophical output – this is the primary task of this seven volume treatise. The treatise investigates Buddhist ideas concerning what mind is and how it relates to a concept of a ‘self’. It is principally a study of the complex interrelationship between mind and phenomena, from the gross to the subtle—the physical, psychic, supersensory and supernal. This entails an explanation of how mind incorporates all phenomena in its modus operandi, and how eventually that mind is liberated from it, thereby becoming awakened. Thus the treatise explores the manner in which the corporeally orientated, concretised, intellectual mind eventually becomes transformed into the Clear Light of the abstracted Mind; a Buddha-Mind.

To all who taught me, and to all who will. Over the past fifteen years the notions of efficiency and sustainability have, more than any others, influenced the academic and public discussion concerning the intertemporal allocation of resources, especially as regards the economics of growth and environment. This treatise formally develops and counterposes these notions by means of the construct of a trajectorial objective, which is here developed, along with its implications, as a natural advance upon the classical scalar objective. In the course of this study it becomes clear that efficiency and sustainability are by no means identical, given that efficiency, on the one hand, is the concept for avoiding wasteful behavior, and sustainability, on the other, is the concept for ensuring that certain critical aspiration levels, which usually reflect the wish for survival, are maintained. Nonetheless, contrary to what may be assumed, these two concepts do not generally yield mutually exclusive solutions; in fact, they can be combined to complement each other in the quest for unimprovable long-term solutions which sustain given and necessary aspiration levels. This treatise develops and analyzes dynamic decision models (DDM) with one trajectorial objective according to the methodology of multi criteria decision making (MCDM). Moreover, introducing the method of distance maximization crucially augments MCDM and proves to be invaluable for DDMs in the case of a nonexistent utopia trajectory as well as in the case of sustainability as objective.
