A Presidio of San Francisco Closure Study began after the controversial Base Closure and Realignment Act of 1988 (BRAC 88) was enacted and placed the Presidio of San Francisco on the BRAC 88 Base Closure list. The required Presidio of San Francisco Closure Study, prepared by the Headquarters, Sixth US Army staff, tried to justify the continuance of the Presidio Post. This study continued for several years but eventually was ineffective bowing to political and military pressure and interference. This Case Study complements the Presidio of San Francisco Closure Study that overlaps the same time period that planned and programmed a systematic process where both management theory and assumptions could be applied to justify improvements in management competence, organizational improvements, and cost effectiveness. This Case Study contains a chronological history of events at the Presidio of San Francisco, and reviews a crisis precipitated by the Department of Defense (DOD) action under a Congressional mandate for Post and Base closures. This caused an administrative dilemma while concurrently, trying to plan the realignment of the Headquarters, Sixth US Army staff; discontinuance of the Presidio Garrison; closing the Presidio of San Francisco as a US Army military Installation; and transferring the Presidio Post operations, repair, and maintenance activities to the US National Park Service.

This memoir charts the extraordinary rise to fame of living blues legend, Bobby Rush. Born Emmett Ellis, Jr. in Homer, Louisiana, he adopted the stage name Bobby Rush out of respect for his father, a pastor. As a teenager, Rush acquired his first real guitar and started playing in juke joints in Little Rock, Arkansas, donning a fake mustache to trick club owners into thinking he was old enough to gain entry. He led his first band in Arkansas between Little Rock and Pine Bluff in the 1950s. It was there he first had Elmore James play in his band. Rush later relocated to Chicago to pursue his musical career and started to work with Earl Hooker, Luther Allison, and Freddie King, and sat in with many of his musical heroes, such as Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, Jimmy Reed and Little Walter. Rush eventually began leading his own band in the 1960s, crafting his own distinct style of funky blues, and recording a succession of singles for various labels. It wasn't until the early 1970s that Rush finally scored a hit with "Chicken Heads." More recordings followed, including an album which went on to be listed in the Top 10 blues albums of the 1970s by Rolling Stone and a handful of regional jukebox favorites including "Sue" and "I Ain't Studdin' Ya." And Rush's career shows no signs of slowing down now. The man once beloved for performing in local jukejoints is now headlining major music/blues festivals, clubs, and theaters across the U.S. and as far as Japan and Australia. At age eighty-six, he is still on the road for over 200 days a year. His lifelong hectic tour schedule has earned him the affectionate title "King of the Chitlin' Circuit," from Rolling Stone. In 2007, he earned the distinction of being the first blues artist to play at the Great Wall of China. His renowned stage act features his famed shake dancers, who personify his funky blues and his ribald sense of humor. He was featured in Martin Scorcese's The Blues docuseries on PBS, a documentary film called Take Me to the River, performed with Dan Aykroyd on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and most recently had a cameo in the Golden Globe nominated Netflix film, Dolemite Is My Name, starring Eddie Murphy. He was recently given the highest Blues Music Award honor of B.B. King Entertainer of the Year. His songs have also been featured in TV shows and films including HBO's Ballers and major motion pictures like Black Snake Moan, starring Samuel L. Jackson. When starting a family history project, where do you begin? For me, the answer is simple: Genesis. Being a man, a man of science, I find that as I get older, science has proven more and more that the truth is very simple. In the opening statements of Genesis, God created the universe as we know it and also created the stars. How is such a thing possible? We are children of God. You know, children are like their creator, full of wonder. Wonder, why? Genesis states, In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void and darkness was over the face of the deep. As we learn more on just how we got here, along comes a brilliant young scientist named Stephen Hawking. He explains in mathematical ways how the universe started with a big bang, started from nothing, and burst forth faster than the speed of light. Stars formed and gathered together to form galaxies then matter collected to form planets to circle around the stars. There was eternal darkness, and then there were the stars and light. As time passed, God planted the seeds of life. What is time? As we read the Bible, we were always in conflict with time. How do we feel comfortable with the evolution of life and the time frame of the Bible? Here, again, I find the answer is simple. Time, to us, is something we made up to understand what goes on around us; God is on his own time. I like to use baking an apple pie as my example of time and what it takes. Heres the question I ask, how long does it take to bake an apple pie? The answer I get is about an hour. I reply with Oh, you can? So here is my response to the one-hour apple pie: Where did the apple come from? How long did the apples take to grow? Where did that variety of apple come from? How long did it take for the seed to grow into a tree? How did you get the apple? At a store? How did the store get there? How did the refrigeration and transportation come to be? What about the cinnamon and sugar you used, where did it come from? (Cinnamon comes from Indiadried tree bark.) What about the tin used to make the pan used to bake the pie? When was electricity harnessed to be used by man, the modern stove?

This is a must read book for all who are interested in saving the environment.
