This is the first comprehensive monograph on Bob Law (1934 2004) and introduces the artist, his history and his work. Bob Law's artistic career started in the late 1950s when he moved to St. Ives. Inspired by the landscape, he made some of his most famous works whilst lying on his back in a field. These seemingly simple outlines around the perimeter of the paper lead to a minimalist exploration of lines, shapes and forms. Law went on to make a series of black paintings out of different combinations of dark colours that were exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art Oxford in 1974. A prolific artist throughout his lifetime, Law also struggled with ideas surrounding the legitimacy and significance of abstraction. He took up sculpture in the 1970s, which expanded his oeuvre. His vocabulary of elemental forms, traditional symbols and primary colours, can be seen across his paintings, drawings and sculptures. They include fields, houses, castles, chairs of rectangles, triangles, crosses in red, yellow and blue. This publication brings together the largest group of paintings, drawings and sculpture by Bob Law to date. In addition to 300 images, 6 texts present different moments and themes in Law's work.

On July 1, 1997, China took control over Hong Kong, where Britain had begun a process of introducing democracy. Beatty examines the process of democratization in Hong Kong, with the argument that democratic development will continue, despite being under Chinese rule. Through a series of 128 interviews with 89 Hong Kong elites from 1997-2002, including legislators and party leaders as well as participant and direct observation of 15 campaigns for the Legislative Council in 1998, Beatty analyzed political leaders beliefs and commitment towards democratic development and institutions and put them into the context of the post-handover environment. Evidence from the interviews is used to test the proposition that adherence to Asian values undermines democracy and Beatty probed Hong Kong elites about their beliefs regarding the rule of law, freedom of the press, civil liberties, and the possible trade-offs between economic development and democratization. A major finding from the in-depth interviews is that while Hong Kong political elites reject the Sinapore model and the Asian Values argument, many do believe in trade-offs between economic development and democratization. Beatty also offers sharp insight into the thinking of Hong Kong political elites and transcends the particular politics of Hong Kong and delves in the broader subject of elite beliefs and attitudes. An important analysis for scholars, students, and other researchers involved with China, Hong Kong, Asian politics and political values, and political development in general.

China's Cultural Revolution movement understandably fueled anger, fear, and terror among Chinese citizens. Currently, contrary to the positive facade that China, under the control of the Communist Chinese Party (CCP), tries to project regarding human rights, a dark reality reveals a brutal authoritarian state with no concern for religious freedom. What guiding philosophy could best help procure, provide, and protect religious freedom for all in a post-communist, Christianized, democratic China? Bob Fu argues that while various Christianity-oriented theories may appear promising, they fail to provide an adequate pluralistic foundation for protecting the religious freedoms of people of all faiths and none. The predominant theory of political liberalism in the West likewise fails to prove sufficiently inclusive for all faiths and worldviews. As an alternative, the author defends Baorong Duoyuan (inclusive pluralism), his own contextualized theory modeled after principled pluralism. This model, he believes, has the potential to help ensure that religious freedom for all becomes a reality.

Romans is almost universally celebrated to be one of the greatest Christian writings ever penned. It is the most detailed explanation of the gospel and the relationship between faith and righteousness in the New Testament. Paul accomplishes this by relying heavily on Old Testament passages that provided a foundation for many of the arguments he used to enlighten the Israelites of God’s plan to include the Gentiles as his people along with them. It takes one on a journey to explore how that gospel works to bring man to a place of salvation through obedience by baptism into Christ (Gal 3:27). Its impact on the lives of many noted religious leaders throughout history during the Protestant Reformation and Restoration Movements cannot be underestimated. Such leaders as Augustine, John Chrysostom, John and Charles Wesley, Martin Luther, John Calvin, and Thomas and Alexander Campbell have all expressed the profound impact Romans had on their lives. Luther sparked the greatest religious revival at the time, the Protestant Reformation at Wittenberg in 1517 when he nailed 95 theses to the door of Castle Church which he said was inspired by his reading of the book of Romans. The Campbells began the Restoration Movement during the early 19th century around the time of the “Great Awakening” in the early frontier days, with a call of restoring the pure gospel that Paul explained in the book of Romans. The overarching theme throughout its 16 chapters is to reveal God’s sovereign plan of justification and sanctification to both Jew and Gentile in the church through the gospel where the righteousness of God is revealed. (Romans 1:17) It is God’s blueprint as to how we obtain and maintain faith and what it means to live a righteous life before God.
