Recipient of three National Endowment for the Arts grants and with works exhibited at the prestigious Biennale de Paris, New York’s Whitney Museum, the de Menil Collection in Houston, and other venues, Bob “Daddy-O” Wade started “keeping it weird” in 1961 when he arrived in Austin with his ’51 custom Ford hot rod and his slicked-back hair. Primed to study art at the University of Texas, Wade’s coif and dragster earned him his trademark moniker, and the abstract, welded sculptures he fashioned from automobile bumpers in his frat house basement laid the foundations for the distinctive, larger-than-life art pieces that would eventually make him famous. Daddy-O is the creator of the forty-foot iguana that perched atop the Lone Star Café in New York City, the immense cowboy boots (entered in the Guinness Book of World Records) outside San Antonio’s North Star Mall, and Dinosaur Bob, who graces the roof of the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature in Abilene, Texas. He is widely recognized as one of the progenitors of the “Cosmic Cowboy Culture” that emerged in Texas during the 1970s. Daddy-O’s Book of Big-Ass Art features images of more than a hundred of Wade’s most famous pieces, complete with the wild tales that lie behind the art, told in brief essays by both Wade and more than forty noted artists and writers familiar with Wade’s work.

Is Jesus really the son of God? And I had questions about things you hear many Christians say, like "God is in control," but is he? I had hundreds of these questions, and I wanted answers. That's what this book is about. It has been seventeen years in the making. I wanted answers, so I searched for them. I met with my pastor. I read books he recommended. I researched various theological views from trusted online resources. There were times I speculated my own answers because I couldn't find anything else to hang my hat on. Sometimes there simply were no answers. But I found out that it's not about getting the answers that's most important anyway. It's the search for the answers. Join me in that search. How should one write a history of Ancient Israel? In the last few decades, a lively discussion has taken place on the historiography of ancient Israel. Minimalists such as Philip Davies, Thomas Thompson, and Niels Peter Lemche challenged the usefulness of the Hebrew Bible as a source for constructing Israel's past. Maximalists like Baruch Halpern and William Dever argued instead that the data from the Hebrew Bible should be trusted until otherwise proven. Others – among whom we can name Hans Barstad, Rainer Albertz, and Lester Grabbe – took a third road. The essays in this volume follow that third road by applying insights from the field of philosophy of history. A dozen case studies from David to the earliest Samaritans demonstrate how difficult it is to write a history of ancient Israel without falling in the abyss of an ideology in one direction or another. The matrix designed by Manfred Weippert to look at the past through five windows (landscape, climate, archaeology, epigraphy and only at the end the Hebrew Bible) turned out to be more helpful. The conclusion of this research is that there are some stable pillars in the swamp of the past, but it comes with the warning that the space between these pillars is large and cannot easily be filled.

He is a superior court recognized expert on the Cosa Nostra. He tells his story in three parts: The first is about growing up in Orange, New Jersey, where he was a wannabe admiring the local mob guys. He was a street tough, extorting money from his classmates, running his own bookmaking operation, and wanting to be a mob guy. In 1957, drugs hit the streets of Orange and several friends of Buccino died from Heroin overdoses. Buccino married his childhood sweetheart and they had a baby boy. He came to his senses about the mob and broke away from it. He became a working stiff, not getting anywhere with his life. One day, he saw an article in the newspaper announcing testing for state troopers. He took the test, passed, and became a trooper, changing his life forever. The second part of his book is about his often very humorous uniform days as a state trooper. During this time, Anthony “Tumac” Acceturo, a young tough that Buccino grew up with, was beginning his career in the Cosa Nostra. He and Buccino were running parallel lives. When Buccino got transferred off of the uniform division and began his career investigating the Cosa Nostra, Anthony was working for the mob. In the third part of his book, Buccino writes about his success in dismantling the mob in New Jersey, telling about the many arrests and convictions of its mob bosses, including the prosecutions of the high ranking bosses of the Gambino, Lucchese, Bruno, DeCavalcante, and Genovese crime families. He also writes of the arrest and conviction of his childhood friend Anthony “Tumac” Acceturo while he was the deputy chief in the Division of Criminal Justice in charge of the New Jersey Statewide Organized Crime Task Force.
