The story starts in the early part of nineteenth century and goes through to the end of the century. That one life begins in the United States and quickly transitions to northern Italy where she grew to a young lady. Then she came back to the States and to the coal towns to begin a life of a miner's wife.

A Russian colonel codename Patch One is out to get revenge for the killing of his brother by Murph, a U.S. Intelligence agent. He kidnaps Murphas son and takes him to Cuba during the missile crisis in the 1960s. Murph is on his way home from the Aleutian Islands when the kidnapping occurs. He and his wife Tatina give chase and finally rescue their son after working their way onto the island as interpreters. Murph leaves for the island first, encounters Castroas brother Raul, and works his way into his confidence. Murph had to make a second trip back to the island after rescuing his son and bringing the Cuban partisans who help them retrieve their son back to the States. The chase leads through South Carolina where Murph encounters the assassin of President Kennedy, who helped the colonel kidnap the boy. A beautiful Russian agent assisted him.

He becomes troubled by the murder of his girlfriend, which triggers nightmares that incriminate him. When confronted with his mother's assailant he reflects on the events leading to that meeting. At the age of nine he witnesses his mother's violation which eventually prompts them to move to Philadelphia. There the family connects with his Uncle Tony, a Mafia figure that has amassed a huge fortune. Tony trains him as a boxer, brawler, womanizer and, on his murder, wills Frank his fortune. After graduating with a Law degree, Frank's love, Patty is murdered and he is accused. He changes his name and enlists in the Army as a Lieutenant and becomes a war hero.
