This book examines the effectiveness of trade and non-trade policies to combat the menace of child labour. Although it has decreased on the global scale in recent years, child labour still remains high, particularly in the developing countries. Keeping in mind the estimated extent of child labour in different regions around the globe, the book offers a detailed critical review of both theoretical and empirical literature on the topic as well as the policies to reduce the incidence of child labour. It also develops a general equilibrium model to demonstrate the possible effects of growth-promoting, non-trade policies, as opposed to direct trade policies, on child labour employment mitigation. The book argues that of the non-trade policies, the introduction of compulsory education appears to be an effective instrument for curtailing the child labour problem when families receive targeted subsidies for sending their children to school. It also shows that appropriately designed and targeted education subsidies can reduce the incidence of child labour and that social protection measures, such as subsidies on school enrolment, also tend to have a positive impact. The book not only opens up research topics for academicians but is also a valuable resource for policy makers.
Modern Buddha is a transformational motivational novel dealing primarily with the true meaning of ‘success’ and ‘happiness’ in life. Despite being the most commonly used words, while measuring the well-being of any human being, sadly, most people fail to understand the exact meaning of these two words. And this is one of the reasons that they suffer throughout their life. Essentially, the book challenges the popular belief that ‘to be happy, you need to be materially successful’. This book is a unique attempt in itself and is probably the first fiction by any Indian writer to explore the concept of GNH (Gross National Happiness) Model of Bhutan.

A few years ago, Bānlā little magazine reached the centenary of its origination. In Bengal (West Bengal and Bangladesh), the passion and enthusiasm about the little magazine supersedes that of Europe or America, but we are far behind the Western countries in terms of collection, preservation, and research of little magazines. The number of monographs or academic books on the Indian little magazine is too few, and such books in English are very rare. We believe that this book can remove that scarcity to some extent. The author of the present work has been closely associated with the movements of the little magazine as an author, editor, and organizer for no less than three decades. Those intimate experiences about such a kind of magazine are inscribed in this book. The text is not as dry as the research works used to be; anyone who is interested in Bānlā avant-garde magazines can enjoy this book.

This book is the output of the research deliberations at 3rd International Conference on Bio-resource and Stress Management, India; and expert views on contemporary research and management issues in relation to bio-resources and its management. This timely needed uniquely written reference book consists of 29 well-crafted chapters on sustainable land, water and crop management, organic agriculture, climate change and crop productivity, stress management, bio-resource conservation, bio-fortification for nutritional security, agro-techniques, agro-forestry and forest resource management and waste management etc. which certainly will be of great use by the scientists, academician, researches, scholars, students, extension workers, corporate and NGO’s working in these aspects.
