After John Coltrane, there was no more revered and profoundly influential saxophonist on the planet than Michael Brecker. For those coming of age in the 1970s, during that transitional decade when the boundaries between rock and jazz had begun to blur, Brecker stood as a transcendent figure. He was their Trane. Ode to a Tenor Titan follows Michael's story from growing up in Philadelphia, finding his tenor sax voice during his brief stint at Indiana University, making his move to New York City in 1969 and taking the Big Apple by storm through the sheer power of his monstrous chops on the instrument. After coming through a dark decade of heroin addiction, he turned his life around and became a beacon for countless others to lead clean and sober lives. At the peak of his powers, he was struck down by a rare preleukemic blood disease that sidelined him for two and a half years. He got off a sick bed to make a heroic comeback with his swan song, Pilgrimage, which Pat Metheny called "one of the great codas in modern music history" and which earned him a posthumous Grammy Award in 2007. Michael Brecker was a player of tremendous heart and conviction as well a person of rare humility and kindness, and his story is one for the ages.

Smith was a founder of a succession of Toronto-based groups integral to the Canadian improvised music community in the 1970s, including Canadian Creative Music Collective, and New Art Music Ensemble. The latter became the Bill Smith Ensemble in 1980; they recorded five albums, including collaborations with Joe McPhee and Wadada Leo Smith. Smith has also recorded with, among others, Birdyak, Wolfgang Fuchs and The Six Winds. Smith initiated a series of projects with the title Imagine the Sound in the '80s, including a book of his writings and photography and the acclaimed documentary film directed by Ron Mann. Our American government began with a revolutionary idea. Alexis de Tocqueville called the "evolutionary process of revolution" wherein society evolves and institutes sweeping changes in government. Nineteen active duty and retired US Border Patrol agents share stories of working at one of the most dangerous border crossing stations. While politicians and pundits endlessly debate immigration policy, US Border Patrol agents put their lives on the line to enforce immigration law. In a day’s work, agents may catch a load of narcotics, apprehend groups of people entering the country illegally, and intercept a potential terrorist. Their days often include rescuing aliens from death by thirst or murder by border bandits, preventing neighborhood assaults and burglaries, and administering first aid to accident victims, and may involve delivering an untimely baby or helping stranded motorists. The medical record is the single, tangible tool that can be used to accurately access reflect the quality of medical care rendered to patients in a hospital. Judgment of the medical record should be made only by qualified members of the Medical Staff, who serve on its reviewing committees; Medical Record, Medical Audit, and Tissue. In addition, the medical record should serve as a scientific teaching tool in the education of interns and residents, as well as in the continuing education of practicing physicians. to ensure quantitative and qualitative completeness of the medical record, the medical staff of the Barberton Citizens Hospital has set forth, in its Rules and Regulations, policies governing these records. the responsibilities of the attending and house physician are made explicit. the reviewing committees are obliged to insure adherence to these policies. the medical record librarian and her staff, upon receipt of the chart from the floor, "grade" it for clerical deficiencies. Factors, such as the quantity of progress notes, presence or lack of consultation notes, completeness of history or physical examination should not be left to the discretion of the medical record department personnel. Such elements are only to be judged by physicians. However, in instances of obvious deficiency, the medical record librarian should seek the opinion of the chairman of the Medical Record Committee. He should then decide what steps, if any, should be taken. the policies concerning Medical Records in the Rules and Regulations are set before the Medical Staff; they need only be followed to produce good records that are a true picture of the care being rendered. However, it must be re-emphasized that the ultimate responsibility for providing a good medical record rests with the physician of record. Members of the house staff, nursing service, and many other paramedical personnel assist him in the care of his patient; nevertheless, it is he who must authenticate the accurate recording of this care.
