Professional paranormal debunker Gerald Agee hosts one of television’s hottest reality shows. A covetable prize of three million dollars awaits the guest who succeeds in winning their respective challenges. Thankfully for Agee’s reputation and the coffers of the Awareness Television Network, the panel has never been sufficiently convinced enough to award any guest the prize money. Executive Field Producer Craig Herbert is tasked with finding a substitute for a scheduled guest. Following a tip from his guest scout, Craig flies from Los Angeles to a small town in Tennessee. Here, he is introduced to a young medium who is a complete unknown on the psychic circuit. The gushing reports from her enthusiastic acquaintances convince Craig that while Betty Ann Crawford may not be a social influencer or even boast media recognition, she is still the kind of charlatan that both Gerald Agee and fans of the Debunker’s Challenge enjoy seeing humiliated. Upon returning to Los Angeles, Craig learns that a former guest of the show has disappeared without explanation. It is at this time he also starts to experience disturbing visions about his own missing younger brother. He credits these visions to a psychological reaction to insinuations which Betty Ann Crawford made while he interviewed her. Self-reproach for his own suggestibility combined with growing resentment for the attractive medium. Craig’s waking and dreaming thoughts turn to the desire to see Betty Ann’s bogus abilities exposed during the filming of her challenges. Craig is a professional. However, he is determined to suppress his emotions with reason and conduct himself accordingly. But very soon, he is confronted with the reality of a menacing agent that works in the shadows, one that has used the Debunker’s Challenge to carry out an agenda of evil darker than anyone could have imagined.

Early Thoughts on Creating Comprehensive Trauma Centers This volume has been many years in writing. When Dr. Donald Meichenbaum first suggested it and I approached my coauthor Lasse Nurmi, it did not seem to be as formidable a task as it has become. Interviewing the centers in this book has taken years-to get responses, to summarize those responses, and to return the summaries for further comment. Many centers have been created in that time; others have suspended operation. This volume does not claim to present even a majority of those centers. However, the ones contained herein are representative of "what is out there. " The idea to create a comprehensive trauma center is not new. The initial section of this forward examines thoughts I proposed as part of my compre hensive examination for my doctorate. Many of the ideas proposed then (1989) seem to fit now. It is my dream to put them into practice someday in the future. THE COMPREHENSIVE EXAMINATION QUESTION In 1989, one question on the written comprehensive examination ques tions for my doctorate was, "If you were to create a comprehensive trauma center in your suburban area, making use of what you have learned in your [doctoral] experience, describe the organization of that center, the mission, structure, personnel, funding, objectives, and services it would offer. " Some of the conclusions reached then now seem applicable to the task at hand: design ing comprehensive trauma centers (CTCs) for the 21st century.

Craigs wife and seven month old daughter, parents, sister, and numerous family and friends were devastated. A family, inexperienced in the grieving process, began the long journey. A journey of faith, family and friends. A family, who could have been pulled apart by such a tragedy, became a stronger family unit. This story chronicles the journey of one family, who were forced to learn as they went, and yet managed to complete a tragic journey. It was written as a testament of innocence, broken by devastation, the ups and downs of the grieving process, and ultimately, their survival. Leland was a Post Office, an elementary school, a telephone central, a lake and a bridge. All are gone except the lake. Mary Beth Munn Yntema became the keeper of data of the pioneers, their homes and farms, their children and their school. She writes down her memories so Leland would not be forgotten. Lake Leland with a post office at the end of its bridge is the focus of a community of families that arrived from many places. They carved farms out of the virgin timber and shared a simple life of fishing and swimming in the summer, cattle care and timber tasks the rest of the time. The main stories occur from 1890 to 1940. A railroad logging company, two sawmill operations and family dairy farms were the economic base. A unique society centered on the one-room school that built life-long friendships and an extended social family. The children were welcome in neighbor homes as if they were relatives. Everyone cooperated in the farm and timber tasks. Everyone rejoiced in successes of the children and shared the sorrows of the many untimely deaths or loss of house or barn to fires. The virgin timber cut was over. The Great Depression came. The story closes with the Second World War, its draft, internment camp and casualties. The school and post office closed as families moved to new jobs. Mary Beths own coming of age experiences play out against this framework of houses and people of Leland.
