The novel follows the main character on a journey of self-discovery as he works his way through college, juggling a menagerie of jobs including set-up crew for a rock band and a stint in an army medical battalion, while living in a hard partying fraternity house that is thrown off campus for drug, alcohol and sexual code violations. This work of New Adult fiction is an authentic account of the college experience from the perspective of a “Joe Sixpack” who never thought becoming a “Joe College” graduate was in his life plan. College Bound is refreshingly honest and will have you laughing one minute and crying the next.

This book explores imperial power and the transnational encounters of shipowners and merchants in the South China Sea from 1840 to 1930. With British Hong Kong and French Indochina on its northern and western shores, the ‘Asian Mediterranean’ was for almost a century a crucible of power and an axis of economic struggle for coastal shipping companies from various nations. Merchant steamers shipped cargoes and passengers between ports of the region. Hong Kong, the global port city, and the colonial ports of Saigon and Haiphong developed into major hubs for the flow of goods and people, while Guangzhouwan survived as an almost forgotten outpost of Indochina. While previous research in this field has largely remained within the confines of colonial history, this book uses the examples of French and German companies operating in the South China Sea to demonstrate the extent to which transnational actors and business networks interacted with imperial power and the process of globalisation.

Aptly named for the era in which this adventure takes place and even more so the termination of the era, the Flower Power meets its final destination at the close of the sixties. The crew manning the good ship Flower Power couldnt be more colorful if they had been handpicked by a madman. They range from the utterly chaotic Captain Peachfuzz to the forty-five-year-old, three-hundred-pound John Aruda, an able-bodied seaman and a flower child who rises to every occasion, including arranging a marriage on the high seas. And then there is the mysterious container stowed aboard and buried beneath a load of chemical fertilizer that the Flower Power is carrying to India. The wheeling and dealing he has to do to get the container back where it belongs eventually brings Case into contact with Eugene and Rosanne, the two people he least expected to cross paths with ever again. A Doghouse Tale is the hilarious story of a motley crew sailing a ship held together by baling wire, paint, and a prayer. It touches on the deplorable condition of the US Merchant Marines in the 1960s, when a nation at war pressed old battle wagons such as the Flower Power into service, making those ships the laughingstock of the maritime world. It is also a moving story, showing that when the chips are down, a multicultural crew bands together as one to come to the aid of a shipmate.

One of the small group of tribes comprising the Illinois division of the Algonquian linguistic family, the Miamis emerged as a pivotal tribe only during the French and British imperial wars, the Miami Confederacy wars of the eighteenth century, and the treaty-making period of the nineteenth century. The Miamis reached their peak of political importance in the Indian confederacies which blocked the Northwest Territory in the 1790's and during the War of 1812. Their title to much of the present state of Indiana enabled them to make advantageous treaties and delay emigration until the late 1840's. The tribe's 1846-47 emigrations produced two branches, the Indiana group and the Kansas-Oklahoma group, which have maintained political co-operation in spite of deep-seated cultural antipathies and dispossession. Their solidarity has been rewarded by success in their suits before the United States Court of Claims. This account spans the years from 1658 to the present, emphasizing the occasions on which the Miamis were a decisive influence on the course of American history.
