This book takes television news seriously. Over the course of nine chapters, Elections and TV News in South Africa shows how six democratic South African general elections, 1994–2019, were represented on both local and international news broadcasts. It reveals the shifting narratives about South African democracy, coupled with changing and challenging political journalism practices. The book is organised in three parts: the first contains a history of South African democracy and an overview of the South African media environment. The second part is a visual analysis of the South African elections on television news, exploring portrayals of violence, security, power, and populism, and how these fit into normative news values and the ruling party’s tightening grip on the media. The final part is a conclusion, a call to action, and a suggestion to improve political journalistic practice.

Illuminati! Are They Really What the Stories Present Them To Be, or Are They Something Entirely Different? Keep Reading and Find Out! As far as secret societies that supposedly have complete control over the world are concerned, the Illuminati should be at the top of any conspiracy theorist's list… Who exactly are the Illuminati? What are they supposed to represent? Why the shroud of mystery? Is it possible that they are hatching some nefarious plans for the world or that they simply want to make the world a better place – if they even exist at all? The Order of the Illuminati and other secret societies have frequently been the subject of heated debates about their role in human history, particularly during the Renaissance. However, as the number of people who believe that the Illuminati secretly controls the world or that the whole thing is a hoax is increasing, more and more facts about the Illuminati have been twisted into falsehoods and myths, making it difficult to discern what is true and what is false. As a result, obtaining a truth regarding the Illuminati Order may be difficult, considering that their history is often rewritten and even changed by those in power. Furthermore, like any other secret organization, the Illuminati Order is meant to be kept hidden. Still, some things are not meant to stay hidden forever… If you are looking for the truth and accurate answers about Illuminati, you are in the right place! This book seeks to construct a more accurate image of the Illuminati Order based on verifiable evidence, much of which is written and accounted for by certain Secret Societies initiates, as it contains valuable information on the Illuminati, including the history, aims, beliefs, and several well-known conspiracy theories related to the group. Here is what this Illuminati guide for conspiracy lovers can offer you: The Illuminati's early beginnings and their religious background The Order's three grades – what is the meaning behind? The Illuminati and modern conspiracy theories – influence on the popular culture Symbolism, rituals, and occultism in the Illuminati Order The link between Illuminati and Freemasons explained The Illuminati's political agenda, strategies, and plans for the world – what is real and what is made up? In this study of sex, gender, sexual violence, and power along the border, Bernadine Marie Hernandez brings to light under-heard stories of women who lived in a critical era of American history. Elaborating on the concept of sexual capital, she uses little-known newspapers and periodicals, letters, testimonios, court cases, short stories, and photographs to reveal how sex, violence, and capital conspired to govern not only women's bodies but their role in the changing American Southwest. Hernandez focuses on a time when the borderlands saw a rapid influx of white settlers who encountered elite landholding Californios, Hispanos, and Tejanos. Sex was inseparable from power in the borderlands, and women were integral to the stabilization of that power. In drawing these stories from the archive, Hernandez illuminates contemporary ideas of sexuality through the lens of the borderland's history of expansionist, violent, and gendered conquest. By extension, Hernandez argues that Mexicana, Nuevomexicana, Californiana, and Tejana women were key actors in the formation of the western United States, even as they are too often erased from the region's story.

Mentoring for Young People in Care and Leaving Care offers a rich exploration of the theory, research and practice relating to youth mentoring as a means of essential social support. Brady, Dolan and McGregor ground their work on the premise that the informal social support provided through a high-quality mentoring relationship can help young people in care to sustain positive mental health, cope with stress and fulfil their potential through adolescence and into adulthood. It provides an up-to-date synthesis of research findings in relation to natural mentoring, formal mentoring and youth-initiated mentoring for children in care and explores the challenges and considerations relating to practice in this area. Illustrated with the details of original research with care-experienced young people, it offers much-needed insight into how young people interpret and make sense of their experiences in care and of mentoring. Written to be accessible by those with limited knowledge of youth mentoring, this timely publication will be essential reading for academics, policy makers and practitioners in the fields of adolescent development, social care, social work and youth work.
... I inherited Revolutionary War letters which various citizens had written. The main character is the obscure Rev. Andrew Eliot of Fairfield Connecticut which I hypothesize may have been an American Secret Agent facilitated in these endeavors by Aaron Burr's first cousin, Thaddeus Burr. Benjamin Tallmadge, Robert Townsend, Austin Roe and Caleb Brewster were known to have participated in the Culper Spy Ring informing General George Washington of the British troops whereabouts and supplies. Until now other members have not been identified ... read for yourself the evidence presented here with scanned letters and artifacts and the genealogy that illustrates how I am in possession of these fascinating historical records"--Preface.

ConnectED Leaders is a call to action for superintendents and school system leaders to grow lead and engage in professional leadership networks. The book is based on principles developed in our professional roles as authors, a district superintendent, educational researcher, non-profit leader, leadership development expert, and a K-16 branding consultant for education and business and our personal roles and as friends, siblings, co-workers and parents. The position we claim in highlighting professional leadership networks is grounded in our work and experience. Our belief in professional leadership networks leads us to collaborate upon the superintendency’s need to employ a strategy of growing professional networks, a first book in today's literature. We intend to help superintendents, novice or veteran, and other school system leaders recognize the importance of collaboration through professional leadership networks at a critical point in public education. With the call for more leadership collaboration and less isolation in today’s schools, we offer school system leaders essential principles of networking, that will help them develop and engage in strategic opportunities of collaboration as a means to strengthen and improve the superintendency, their school district organization, and their students’ success.
