With his "ability to disgust (and delight) even the most seasoned horror enthusiast" (Publishers Weekly), Bentley Little conjures up your greatest fears as he dares you to spend a night with the haunted.... The neighbors seem reluctant to visit. Claire can't shake the feeling that someone is watching her. Megan receives increasingly menacing and obscene texts. And James is having terrible dreams. No wonder, considering what he's seen in the corner of the basement, staring at him and shuffling closer ever so slowly. Pity no one warned the family about the house. Now it's too late. Because the darkness at the bottom of the stairs is rising....
Bram Stoker Award-winning horror author Bentley Little proves why you should never go home again in this terrifying novel. Welcome to McGuane, Arizona. Population: 200...199...198...197... Something that’s now buried in its walls. Something now reborn in the nightmares of Gregory’s young son. Something about to be unleashed.
“Bentley Little is a master of horror on par with Koontz and King....The Return is so powerful that readers will keep the lights on day and night.”—Midwest Book Review Springerville is famous for the legend of the Mogollon Monster. Of course nobody really believes it. It’s just a good campfire story, something to attract gullible tourists—until an excavation team unearths the figurine of a screaming woman, the jawbone of a deformed animal, and a child’s toy. How odd that they were buried together. Odd, too, is the foul odor lingering in the air, the strange noises at night, and the man’s face found hanging from a tree. Now the locals are locking their doors. Because after sundown, campfire stories can seem very, very real.

Bill Davis is the only one in town who senses the evil lurking within The Store. But he can't stop his two teenage daughters from taking jobs there and falling under the frightening influence of its sadistic manager. When Bill finally takes a stand, he will get much more than he bargained for. . . .
The perfect getaway turns into a nightmare when a girl vanishes without a trace in this horror novel that could only have come from the mind of Bram Stoker Award-winning author Bentley Little. Gary, his girlfriend, Joan, and their friends intend to make the most of their three day vacation from UCLA partying at Burning Man. But soon after they arrive at the festival in the remote desert, Joan disappears. Calls to her parents’ home yield only dead air. Her school records are gone. And there’s no evidence that Joan, or even her roommate, ever existed. Most disturbing of all is what they do find. Among Joan’s belongings is a prayer written on a small scroll. It’s a safeguard—and a warning—from something called The Outsiders. For Gary and his friends it’s the only clue. Now, if they want to find out exactly what happened to Joan, they must follow it. But they may not like what they uncover....

And all across California, children are becoming affected by a monstrous change—and their parents, by a mounting fear. Social worker Carrie Daniels and reporter Brian Howells are determined to find the link between these baffling crimes. But they shouldn’t look too deeply into the lives of the victims. It’s quite dark there. And God help them, they won’t like what they find.

The second edition of David Bentley Hart’s critically acclaimed New Testament translation David Bentley Hart’s translation of the New Testament, first published in 2017, was hailed as a “remarkable feat” and as a “strange, disconcerting, radical version of a strange, disconcerting manifesto of profoundly radical values.” In this second edition, which includes a powerful new preface and more than a thousand changes to the text, Hart’s purpose remains the same: to render the original Greek texts faithfully, free of doctrine and theology, awakening readers to the uncanniness that often lies hidden beneath doctrinal layers. Through his startling translation, with its raw, unfinished quality, Hart reveals a world conceptually quite unlike our own. “It was a world,” he writes, “in which the heavens above were occupied by celestial spiritual potentates of questionable character, in which angels ruled the nations of the earth as local gods, in which demons prowled the empty places, . . . and in which the entire cosmos was for many an eternal divine order and for many others a darkened prison house.” He challenges readers to imagine it anew: a God who reigned on high, appearing in the form of a slave and dying as a criminal, only then to be raised up and revealed as the Lord of all things.

A note from the author: 'All the characters in this novel are real people, revived from the pages of Yorkshire history to enact again their significant drama of love and strife, human strength and human weakness. If I have sometimes deepened the lines, and supplied the gaps, of this story of England's Civil War, from my own invention, that is the novelist's privilege: to create a symbolic unity from scattered hints and dispersed incidents.' In this novel of the English Civil War, Phyllis Bentley brings her lightness of touch, and real human compassion, to one of the darkest periods of English History.
Alfred Armistead and Henry Hinchliffe are partners in Blackshaw Mills, a cloth-manufacturing firm in Yorkshire. The Armistead and Hinchliffe families differ in politics, in religion, in social outlook, but with their workmen they are representative architects of the modern social fabric. Henry Hinchliffe's children are Edward, the steady man of affairs; Frederick, the rebellious student; Grace, the reformer. The Armisteads are Gwen the enigma, Ludo the compassionate, Laura the artistic. The families intermarry; the war takes its toll. Meanwhile the partners in Blackshaw Mills quarrel, and reunite; enjoy prosperity, are hard hit by strike and slump, and presently pass on to their sons their unsettled problems. Now the third generation is rising: Geoffrey and Madeline, divergent children of divergent parents; Kay, illegitimate son. Every generation, as Feuchtwanger has observed, says in its turn to its parents: "Sleep in peace! I will be different from you". The generation of Grace and Laura has struggled passionately with the problems of duty and freedom, the common good and the individual achievement; the worth of their struggle will be revealed by the solutions of the next generation. Geoffrey looks to the right for his solution, Kay to the left; gradually the transition is accomplished. Sleep in Peace combines with deep understanding of men and women all the richness of the novelist's art.

Clear statements on practical limitations and accuracy. An invaluable source of reference for experienced professionals working on geotechnical design, it will also give students and early-career engineers an in-depth appreciation of the appropriate use of each property and the pitfalls to avoid.
This authoritative guide showcases the unmatched beauty and diversity of the native orchids of the southern Appalachian mountains. Based on Stanley Bentley's many years of nature study, it covers the 52 species--including one discovered by Bentley and named after him--found in a region encompassing western Virginia and North Carolina and eastern West Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee. The entry for each orchid provides the plant's scientific and common names, a description of the flower (including color, shape, and size), and information on the time of flowering, range, and typical habitat, all in the context of the southern mountains. A range map accompanies each description, and Bentley's own superb photographs are an additional aid to identification. Using straightforward language yet incorporating the most up-to-date scientific information and nomenclature, the book will be welcomed by amateur naturalists or professional botanists looking for species in the field and by those who simply enjoy photographs of beautiful wildflowers.
A Blake Bibliography was first published in 1964. Minnesota Archive Editions uses digital technology to make long-unavailable books once again accessible, and are published unaltered from the original University of Minnesota Press editions. The aim of this book is to list every reference to William Blake published between 1757 and 1863 and every criticism and edition of his works from the beginning to the present. Partly because of the deluge of scholarship in the last forty years, it includes perhaps twice as many titles as Sir Geoffrey Keynes's great bibliography of 1921. An introductory essay on the history of Blake scholarship puts the most significant works into perspective, indicates the best work that has been done, and points to some neglected areas. In addition, all the most important references and many of the less significant ones are briefly annotated as to subject and value. Because many of the works are difficult to locate, specimen copies of all works published before 1831 have been traced to specific libraries. Each of Blake's manuscripts is also traced to its present owner. Two areas which have received relatively novel attention are early references to Blake (before 1863) and important sale and exhibition catalogues of his works. In both areas there are significant number of important entries which have not been noticed before by Blake scholars. The section on Blake's engravings for commercial works receives especially detailed treatment. A few of the titles listed here have not been described previously in connection with Blake.
Addicted to Love is a roadmap to recovery and healthy relationships for female sex and love addicts. It’s hard to imagine love without the pain. Women who live with love addiction are a unique breed having learned to cope in a sex-driven world by finding their worth in sexuality and being wanted. The human need for lasting, meaningful relationships is constantly sabotaged by these women’s own behaviors on top of events outside their control. In Addicted to Love, Lacy A. Bentley—a woman who has been there—introduces her own recovery journey with courageous honesty to guide other women on their paths to recovery. Each chapter focuses on a different trait of emotional health and teaches women to integrate that trait in a workbook-style format. Lacy shows them how to secure their romantic heart, love like they were meant to, and break free from compulsive patterns, while presenting new ways of seeing day-to-day patterns. Every word guides brave women into the relationships they truly want and deserve—without excuses, compulsions, or addiction in the recovery roadmap of the future.
