In the wake of a 1952 revolution, leaders of Bolivia's National Revolutionary Movement (MNR) embarked on a program of internal colonization known as the "March to the East." In an impoverished country dependent on highland mining, the MNR sought to convert the nation's vast "undeveloped" Amazonian frontier into farmland, hoping to achieve food security, territorial integrity, and demographic balance. To do so, they encouraged hundreds of thousands of Indigenous Bolivians to relocate from the "overcrowded" Andes to the tropical lowlands, but also welcomed surprising transnational migrant streams, including horse-and-buggy Mennonites from Mexico and displaced Okinawans from across the Pacific. Ben Nobbs-Thiessen details the multifaceted results of these migrations on the environment of the South American interior. As he reveals, one of the "migrants" with the greatest impact was the soybean, which Bolivia embraced as a profitable cash crop while eschewing earlier goals of food security, creating a new model for extractive export agriculture. Half a century of colonization would transform the small regional capital of Santa Cruz de la Sierra into Bolivia's largest city, and the diverging stories of Andean, Mennonite, and Okinawan migrants complicate our understandings of tradition, modernity, foreignness, and belonging in the heart of a rising agro-industrial empire.

“Waarheen nou...???”, means “Where to now...???” This book is about: The road of truth and untruth, are eternally running alongside each other. Untruth or falsehood being ‘the truth + 1’ or ‘the truth - 1’. Almost always, the same. Often, unrecognizable from the real truth! The author was spoken to, from Above! He was taught by The Creator Himself and the set-apart Spirit. He was ordained to write this book, to guide the lost sons & daughters, back to the Fatherhouse. As tracker, shepherd and guide, he must prepare the way, like John the Baptist, for the people, to be ready as “spotless bride”, for the second coming of our Messiah. The people must be led back on the original track, to follow in their Master’s footsteps. As physically in Old Testament times, now spiritually. The general theme in the book is: “The second exodus out of Babylon.” Faith alone, is not enough! Without obedience, faith cannot suffice! If Abraham, the ‘Father of Faith’, just believed, would we still acknowledge him as ‘idol’? It is in fact because of his obedience, that we can honor him, as a true believer! Very important to sort out in your own life: “Surely you know that when you surrender yourselves as slaves to obey someone, you are in fact the slaves of the master you obey---either of sin, which results in death, or of obedience, which results in being put right with God.” (Rom.6:16) According to Mat.7:14 (KJV) the following: “Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there are that find it.” Good News Bible states it more describing: “But the gate to life is narrow and the way that leads to it is hard, and there are few people who find it.” Many people are ‘happy-go-lucky’ fellows or ‘devil-may-care’ guys, on the highway. They must be led back, before going totally astray! An escalator only has two directions; up or down. If you want to go UP, there is no place for a ‘highway’ or ‘my-way’; only “Thy way”! The author, also known as ‘errand boy’ or ‘messenger’, must share what he was shown. He must tell what he heard, because: “...faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of Elohim.” (Rom.10:17) He must tell, lead and encourage the people to find the whole truth and do the right deeds, and make a ‘u-turn’, to get on to the right track. See what Psalm 53:3&4 says: “Elohim looks down from heaven at people to see if there are any who are wise, any who worship Him. But they have all turned away; they are all equally bad. Not one of them does what is right, not a single one.” (GNB) Or according to KJV: “to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek Elohim. Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.” The road is not easy! It is a 4X4 adventure, through the desert, not an easy ‘highway-to-heaven’, as we know it! The people have been misled, either knowingly or unknowingly. They have been tricked to take the highway or sideway, the easy way. The full truth and right way, have been disguised, ignored, twisted and concealed on purpose. Many a time, through ‘intentional’, cunning, translation “mistakes”. In Scripture, in 2Corintians 11:12, we are warned: “Even Satan can disguise himself to look like an angel of light!” & “And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.” The deception is allowed by The Almighty, because of His people’s unfaithfulness and idolatry. (Isa.43:28 & 44:18, Eze.12:2 & Mat.13:14) He ‘blindfolded’ many, because of their rebellion against Him and His commandments. He will allow this temporary ‘blindness & deafness’, until we humble ourselves and turn back to Him, as Creator of heaven and earth, and acknowledge His Name, as set apart and above all names. According to 2Chron.7:14, He promised: “If My people, which are called by My Name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgiv

It is also a book about the changing political economy of British capitalism's relationship to the European and wider global economies. It focuses on the creation in 2010 and subsequent operation of the independent body created to oversee fiscal rectitude in Britain, the Office for BudgetResponsibility (OBR). More broadly, it analyses the politics of economic management of the UK's uncertain trajectory, and of British capitalism's restructuring in the 2010s and 2020s in the face of the upheavals of the global financial crisis (GFC), Brexit and COVID. A focus on the intersection between experteconomic opinion of the OBR as UK's fiscal watchdog, and the political economy of British capitalism's evolution through and after Brexit, animates a framework for analysing the politics of technocratic economic governance. The technocratic vision of independent fiscal councils fails to grasp a core political economy insight: that economic knowledge and narratives are political and social constructs. The book unpacks the competing constructions of economic reason that underpin models of British capitalism, and through that inform expert economic assessment of the UK economy. It also underlines how contestable political economic assumptions undergird visions of Britain's international economic relations. These wereall brought to the fore in economic policy debates about Britain's place in the world, which in the 2010s centred on Brexit. This book analyses OBR forecasting and fiscal oversight in that broader political context, rather than as a narrowly technical pursuit.

To find your way in the vast Hittite Pantheon is by no means an easy task. In his Onomasticon of the Hittite Pantheon Ben van Gessel lists all Hittite gods as known from primary sources. Their names are listed as written in Hittite, Sumerian and Akkadian. Moreover, deities not mentioned by a proper name are given. The work ends with the unclassifiable fragments of names. Apart from answering questions about the (often confusing) orthography of the gods' names, each entry categorizes information on their epithets, shrines, priests and servants, cult places, attributes and feasts, as well as about the actual locations in the texts. Where necessary, the author refers to relevant literature.

First published in 1587, Moses Cordovero's now classic introduction to Kabbalah, Or Ne'erav, was intended to serve several purposes; it was meant both to provide a justification for the study of Kabbalah and to encourage that study by providing detailed instructions for interested laymen on how to go about that study; indeed, it was intended as a precis of Cordovero's much larger Pardes Rimmonim. In many ways, Cordovero was ideally suited to compose such a work. His teacher of rabbinics was no other than R. Joseph Caro, author of the Shulhan Arukh, which rapidly became the halakhic code par excellence. His master in Kabbalah was Solomon ha-Levi Alkabetz, whose sister he subsequently married. The result of his studies with both was no less than a kabbalistic "code", a systematic kabbalistic theology of the Zohar, the basic text of Jewish mysticism. But this work was too large, and too complex to be easily mastered. Moreover, it assumed too much previous knowledge to serve as an introduction to the subject; hence the need for Or Ne'erav. Or Ne'erav succeeded in fulfilling all these purposes, and has remained a classic introduction to the study of Kabbalah - and is used as such to this day. Dr. Robinson's accurate but readable translation is the first English rendition of this essential work. -- Back cover.
