Have you ever noticed how the word ambulance is written backwards on the front of the emergency vehicle? The reason is so that when you sit in your car and look behind you in your mirror you can read it and know that help and hope is on the way for some one who is hurting or in need of help. In life sometimes as we sit and look behind us we can see many things unfold that have happened. As Barbara Ann sat and thought about the events that have happened in her life she realized how many things she experienced, some tragic, some sad, many happy, and some can only be explained by just two words, faith and miracles. The same way that an ambulance is a sign of help on the way, the story in this book is bringing help and hope for many people. Not just hurting people, or people with no hope, but people who have questions about where and how to find peace, or people who just need encouragement. Barbara Ann has shared her life story in hundreds of churches and meetings, across this country. The people laugh and they cry through out the story, but they always get encouraged, and come away with a new and uplifted view of life. It is a story about her life, and events in it, her love expressed in the family, and her faith tested to the limits. The one Goal she has with this book is to let people know that God is good, all the time.

Space age architecture "Disappearing space seems to me to be the most durable and endurable and life-giving quality in architecture." - John Lautner American architect John Lautner (1911-1994) is responsible for some of the most original buildings of the space age and, indeed, the 20th century. The residences he designed in the Los Angeles area, including the Chemosphere House and the Silvertop, are synonymous with the hopes and dreams of an entire era. Characterized by sweeping rooflines, glass-paneled walls, and steel beams, his buildings displayed a combination of fantasy and minimalism, often integrating water and incorporating surrounding landscapes. Lautner always placed great importance on the relationship between humans, space, and nature. About the Series: Each book in TASCHEN's Basic Architecture Series features: an introduction to the life and work of the architect the major works in chronological order information about the clients, architectural preconditions as well as construction problems and resolutions a list of all the selected works and a map indicating the locations of the best and most famous buildings approximately 120 illustrations (photographs, sketches, drafts and plans)
This short book fills an important niche in simplifying early-stage reading. Although there are thousands of words, there are just over 100 words that include all the important sounds in the English language. When individuals learn them, they are able to sound out words and make the connection between what they have heard and the sounds of the letter grouping. They sound out the letter groupings and then begin to recognize whole words with practice. For such people, reading is a visual blizzard of unconnected symbols, which this simple approach clarifies. The book Let’s Build Something presents just over 100 words in an entertaining way so that the inexperienced reader can learn the phonic key to the English language in a few weeks. Readers are then equipped to read what they want and will read independently. The book offers a shortcut through the confusion in the early stages of reading.

Perhaps you know that in Germany the world’s largest model railway exhibition exists. It is a permanent model railway exhibit with thousands of model trains, and there are several model railroad layouts, displays and sections, for example Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Austria, Switzerland, Germany and the famous model airport in HO scale. In September 2016, a new section was opened. This new layout is called “Beautiful Italy”, and it is a masterpiece in model building. It is the state of the art of model railroading. The entire country of Italy is represented on an area of approximately 300 square meters. There are the volcano Vesuvius near Naples, Pompeii, the ancient Roman town-city, the beautiful Amalfi Coast along the coastline of the Salerno Gulf in Southern Italy, South Tyrol, Liguria, Tuscany and of course, the capital city Rome with its St. Peter’s Basilica and with the Colosseum or Coliseum, also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre. This new model railway layout is a work of art in the field of rail transport modelling. It is located at the so-called “Wonderland of Miniatures” in Hamburg, Germany. Visitors of this model railroad exhibit will be a little overloaded because there are amazing, impressive and loving details on every square meter: There are hundreds of little stories which a told by the sceneries. Furthermore, the day and night illumination in Liguria and on the Amalfi Coast is absolutely impressive.
In Germany, the Ruhr Metropolitan Region consists of several large, industrial cities bordered by the rivers Ruhr to the south, Rhine to the west, and Lippe to the north. Perhaps you know Dortmund? Dortmund is the biggest city in the Ruhr area. And, Essen is the second largest city. The Ruhr Metropolitan Region is known for its coal mines. The coal was exported or processed in coking ovens into coke, used in blast furnaces, producing iron and steel. In the city of Essen a new model railway exhibit was opened in June, 2014. Certainly, the emphasis is very much on steel industry, on coal mining, and on coal industry. It is a wonderful model railway layout of 400 square meters built in HO scale, representing the industrial heritage of the Ruhr Metropolitan Region. First, the old Ruhr Metropolitan Region in the 1960's is shown with its trains, landscapes and coal mines. Then, the ports of the river Ruhr and the famous steel industry of the Ruhr valley is presented by a big iron and steel works. Next, there is the modern Ruhr Metropolitan Region, consisting of a great central station with more than ten platforms (tracks), cities, fairground, and the German lifestyle. Thereafter, the exhibition takes the visitors in the Alps and to Italy because it should be taught that products and goods are exported from the Ruhr to there. Finally, it's hard to describe this model railway exhibit shaped by industry. This was the reason for this picture book. Please, discover and look closely to this miniature world with more than 200 photos.
In Germany, they call it Miniatur Wunderland. This miniature wonderland is a model railway attraction in Hamburg, Germany, and the largest of its kind in the world. In March 2016 the railway consisted of 50,525 ft of track in HO scale. The exhibit includes 930 trains made up of over 14,450 carriages, 335,000 lights, 228,000 trees, and 215,000 human figurines. There are eleven sections: 1) Harz, the highest mountain range in Northern Germany 2) Knuffingen, a fictitious city with amazing model cars 3) The Alps and Austria 4) Hamburg, the second largest city in Germany 5) America, especially the United States 6) Denmark 7) Sweden and its snow covered landscape 8) Norway with ships sailing in real water 9) Switzerland 10) Bavaria and the Bavarian lifestyle 11) Knuffingen Airport, a replicate of the Hamburg Airport Finally, it's hard to describe this amazing miniature world with words. This was the reason for this picture book. Please, discover and look closely to this miniature world with more than 700 photos.
The largest model railway exhibit of the Netherlands is called Miniworld Rotterdam. It is a wonderful miniature world of 535 square meters built in HO scale, near the Rotterdam Central Station. There are beautiful Dutch landscapes, Dutch trains and numerous scenes of Dutch lifestyle. Almost 200 square meters represent a miniature version of the city of Rotterdam with it's modern and historic architecture. There are the most famous and special buildings of Rotterdam, for example the Erasmusbridge, the Hotel New York, the new Rotterdam Central Station. And, the port of Rotterdam, one of the largest ports in world, is integrated in this model railway layout. There are the Shipyard IHC Merwede, the big container terminal Maasvlakte, and the RSC Rail Service Center. Almost all types of terminals that are to be found in the port of Rotterdam are built in HO scale, too. Off course, the Dutch coast and polder landscape is an integral part of this miniature world. There are numerous dikes, channels, canals, windmills, pumping station and locks. Every 24 minutes night falls in with beautiful evening- and morning colors generated by dimming the lights in the whole exhibition hall. At night, thousands of miniature bulbs light up the model buildings, trains, cars and ships. Finally, it's hard to describe this amazing atmosphere with words. This was the reason for this picture book. Please, discover and look closely to this miniature world with more than 200 photos.

Barbara H. Rosenwein here reassesses the significance of property in the tenth and eleventh centuries, a period of transition from the Carolingian empire to the regional monarchies of the High Middle Ages. In To Be the Neighbor of Saint Peter she explores in rich detail the question of monastic donations, illuminating the human motives, needs, and practices behind gifts of land and churches to the French monastery of Cluny during the 140 years that followed its founding. Donations, Rosenwein shows, were largely the work of neighbors, and they set up and affirmed relationships with Saint Peter, to whom Cluny was dedicated.Cluny was an eminent religious institution and served as a model for other monasteries. It attracted numerous donations and was party to many land transactions. Its charters and cartularies constitute perhaps the single richest collection of information on property for the period 909-1049. Analyzing the evidence found in these records, Rosenwein considers the precise nature of Cluny's ownership of land, the character of its claims to property, and its tutelage over the land of some of the monasteries in its ecclesia.

Named a 2013 Doody's Core Title! The trend toward patient self-management (PSM) of chronic disease is accelerating at a rapid pace along with the evolution of home-based or mobile technologies to support this care. Yet the development of self-management practice standards and advanced practice nursing support has been haphazard. This book fills a glaring void by addressing, against a backdrop of current best practices in PSM, such questions as: What are appropriate standards of safety in PSM? How can we be assured those standards are met? How does one reach a good prognosis about whether or not patients will be able to practice PSM? What level of effectiveness and efficiency should PSM reach to be considered a good policy option? Grounded in a clear ethical practice framework for PSM regimens, the text discusses PSM of the major chronic diseases along with best practice intervention strategies. The text maps out the implementation of the PSM framework for both patient and institution, supported by numerous case examples. Also addressed are PSM challenges to Advanced Practice Nursing, three ethically valid assessment tools, and relevant health policy concerns. Offering study questions and answers, the text is designed for course adoption and as a resource at MSN, DNP, and PhD levels Key Features: Presents clear ethical practice framework for PSM regimens Explores PSM in the major chronic diseases along with case studies Discusses PSM challenges to Advanced Practice Nursing Provides three ethically valid assessment tools Useful for course adoption and a resource at MSN, DNP, and PhD levels
Super Tuesday 1988 was the first successful attempt to get several states in one region to hold their presidential primaries on the same day. Its success -- or lack thereof -- will affect the way presidents are elected for many years to come. Reaching beyond Super Tuesday and the nominations of George Bush and Michael Dukakis, Barbara Norrander's book presents the nation's first regional primary as the latest chapter in the ever-changing system through which U.S. political parties choose their presidential candidates. Norrander's research details how changes in technology, candidate and media strategies, and historical circumstances have influenced recent presidential nominations and how they set the stage for the South's primary in 1988. Super Tuesday: Regional Politics and Presidential Primaries emerges as an authoritative source not only on Super Tuesday but on many other aspects of presidential nominations. This book demonstrates that much of current conventional wisdom about presidential nominations is wrong. Norrander traces candidate strategies from 1976 to 1988 and calculates turnout rates from 1960 to 1988. She also examines the composition of the Super Tuesday electorate with respect both to preconceived notions of who participates in presidential primaries and to deliberate attempts by the Democratic and Republican parties to manipulate voter turnout in the South's regional primary. Her analysis of the timing and process of nomination victories from 1976 to 1988 emphasizes the importance of the overlooked role of candidate attrition over candidate momentum. Of special interest to political scientists -- and to political observers -- concerned with parties, elections, and voting behavior, Norrander's book will reshape the examination of presidential contests in 1992 and beyond.
Imperialism, Race and Resistance marks an important new development in the study of British and imperial interwar history. Focusing on Britain, West Africa and South Africa, Imperialism, Race and Resistance charts the growth of anti-colonial resistance and opposition to racism in the prelude to the 'post-colonial' era. The complex nature of imperial power in explored, as well as its impact on the lives and struggles of black men and women in Africa and the African diaspora. Barbara Bush argues that tensions between white dreams of power and black dreams of freedom were seminal in transofrming Britain's relationship with Africa in an era bounded by global war and shaped by ideological conflict.
This text provides an overview of the field of aggression. It presents an account of both theoretical and applied issues and explores strategies designed to control, reduce and prevent aggression on both an individual and societal level.
Oft-ignored in the study of Canadian history or dismissed as a vestige of colonial status, the governor general's office provides essential historical insight into Canada's constitutional evolution. In the nineteenth century, as today, individual governors general exercised considerable scope in interpreting their approach to the office. The era 1847-1878 witnessed profound changes in Canada's relationship with Britain, and in this new book, Barbara J. Messamore explores the nature of these changes through an examination of the role of the governor general. Guided by outmoded instructions and constitutional conventions that were not yet firmly established, the governors general of the time - Lord Elgin, Sir Edmund Head, Lord Monck, Lord Lisgar, and Lord Dufferin - all wrestled with the implications of colonial self government. The imprecision of the viceregal role made the character of the appointee especially important and biographical details are thus essential to an understanding of how the new experiment of colonial self-government was put into practice. Messamore's book marries constitutional history and biography, providing illumination on some of the key figures of nineteenth-century Canadian politics.
This book offers a comprehensive approach to understanding hate crime, its causes, consequences, prevention, and prosecution. Hate crimes continue to be a pervasive problem in the United States. The murder of Matthew Shepard, the lynching of James Byrd, the murderous rampage of Benjamin Smith, and anti-Muslim violence remind us that incidence of deadly bigotry is not only a recurring chapter in U.S. history, but also a part of our present-day world. Contrary to common belief, hate mongers who commit crimes are rarely members of the Ku Klux Klan or a skinhead group. In fact, fewer than 5 percent of identifiable offenders are members of organized hate groups. Yet rather than being an individual crime, hate crime represents an assault against all members of stigmatized and marginalized communities. To fully understand the phenomenon of hate crime and reduce its incidence, it is necessary to clearly define the term itself, to examine the victims and the offenders, and to evaluate the consequences and harms of hate crimes. This comprehensive five-volume set carefully addresses the disturbing variety and incidence of hate crimes, exposing their impacts on the broader realms of crime, punishment, individual communities, and society. The contributing authors and editors pay critical attention to cutting-edge topics such as online hate crimes, hate-based music, anti-Latino hostilities, Islamaphobia, hate crimes in the War on Terror, school-based anti-hate initiatives, and more. The final volume of Hate Crimes provides valuable food for thought on possible legislative, educational, social policy, or community organizational responses to the varied forms of hate crime.

Perhaps Paul Kareem Taylor said it best in his piece called On the Road Again: Barbara Hamby's American Odyssey: "Reading Barbara Hamby's poetry is like going on a road trip, one where the woman behind the wheel lets you ride shotgun as she speeds across the open highways of an America where drive-in movie theaters still show Janet Leigh films on Friday nights, hardware stores have not been driven out of business by soulless corporate titans, and where long poetic lines first introduced by Walt Whitman and resurrected by Ginsberg are pregnant with a thousand reasons to marvel at the world we inhabit.
Ten-year-old Alex Cavender watches in horror as the old stone church implodes. In a world where Christians have been intimidated, to the point some already believe it is illegal to attend church, Luke Davis has the guts to stand for Jesus. In the face of bribery, blackmail, deception, church and car bombings, and even murder, he stands. Luke believes he has been called to stand against the bill the House has passed to outlaw Christianity. The Senate is deadlocked on the bill, and the vice president, John Paul Cavender, is about to break the tie. His party, with financial backing from the American Freedom Association, supports the legislation. When the slightest hint he wont vote with his party leads to the death of a family member, he realizes that no one is safe until the bill passes. Will there be a way to reverse it later, or is this the end of Christianity? Tiebreaker explores a not too distant future in which our nation is tested. How many rights, guaranteed by our Constitution, will we allow to be denied before we take a stand? The strength of family, faith, and forgiveness are weighed against greed, corruption, and bigotry.
