A filosofia de Karl Popper deu margem a comentários diversos e algumas vezes contraditórios. A maior parte dos comentadores acordam em reconhecer que sua lógica das ciências constitui uma contribuição de suma importância no plano da epistemologia e da ciência. Bem menos unanimidade se pode encontrar nos temas desenvolvidos pelo filósofo, no que se refere as questões políticas. Percorrer a extensão de sua obra é trabalho impossível e jamais completo. Este livro é o resultado de um esforço para marcar um aspecto particularíssimo no conjunto da obra monumental do filósofo vienense. O objeto de análise, ganha expressão, sobre a chamada questão da demarcação científica, ou seja, dos critérios necessários para se determinar o campo no qual se reconhece uma teoria científica como tal. O problema central desenvolvido nesta obra se configura na busca de uma resposta à questão: de que maneira Popper protagoniza o debate sobre o alcance da Ciência, especificamente no que diz respeito a questão de sua efetividade interna (seus contornos) e de suas consequências no domínio da sociedade? O que se busca, ao longo do trabalho, é identificar os problemas que produziram a questão da demarcação, entre os quais indicar a crítica efetivada por Popper tanto sobre a indução quanto sobre o verificacionismo. Buscamos, ainda, descrever os elementos que constituem a prática demarcatória e, como consequência, apontar para os seus desdobramentos na dinâmica da sociedade e dos valores.
