It introduces to the readers electronic circuit analysis and design techniques with emphasis on the operation and use of semiconductor devices. It covers principles of operation, the characteristics and applications of fundamental electronic devices such as p-n junction diodes, bipolar junction transistors (BJTs), and field effect transistors (FETs), and special purpose diodes and transistors. In its second edition, the book includes a new chapter on “special purpose devices”. What distinguishes this text is that it explains the concepts and applications of the subject in such a way that even an average student will be able to understand working of electronic devices, analyze, design and simulate electronic circuits. This comprehensive book provides: • A large number of solved examples. • Summary highlighting the important points in the chapter. • A number of Review Questions at the end of each chapter. • A fairly large number of unsolved problems with answers.
From its origins in the malachite mines of ancient Egypt, mining has grown to become a global industry which employs many hundreds of thousands of people. Today, the mining industry makes use of various types of complex and sophisticated equipment, for which reliability, maintainability and safety has become an important issue. Mining Equipment Reliability, Maintainability and Safety is the first book to cover these three topics in a single volume. Mining Equipment Reliability, Maintainability and Safety will be useful to a range of individuals from administrators and engineering professionals working in the mining industry to students, researchers and instructors in mining engineering, as well as design engineers and safety professionals. All topics covered in the book are treated in such a manner that the reader requires no previous knowledge to understand the contents. Examples, solutions and test problems are also included to aid reader comprehension.
India, one of the world’s fastest-growing large economies, offers business and investment opportunities across a multitude of sectors. More and more companies around the world are eager to do business in India. This book details the challenges and risks involved as well as providing real suggestions for overcoming them. It begins by providing a background to understanding India and highlights the business environment in which the economic, legal, and cultural variances exist. Potential markets are then discussed, focusing on the sectors, regions, and cities where growth is taking place; the upper, middle, and lower income segments; Indian MNEs; public sector and state-owned companies, and family-owned enterprises. Throughout the book, the author examines the various pitfalls and obstacles that are frequently encountered when operating in India, including political uncertainty and intransigence, corruption, bureaucratic roadblocks, the web of litigation, protecting intellectual property, labor and human resources limitations, and India’s ubiquitous second economy. These not only increase risk and lead to costly delays on account of lengthy litigation and payment of bribes, aggravating frustration, but may also result in total loss of investments. The book concludes by providing keys to success, including guidelines for selecting partners and appointing agents, as well as negotiating techniques that work in India. It also includes a comprehensive list of web resources for further exploration, and to connect with government and private sector bodies.
What happened in JNU on February 9th and why? Was it an isolated incident or was it part of a prolonged ideological war waged by those nursed financially and intellectually by foreign powers who are against India? The unfortunate events of that fateful day have put this distinguished institution in news for wrong reasons. A group of students belonging to a host of communist organizations along with separatist Islamist Jihadi ‘guests’ openly called for ‘breaking India’, ‘destroying India’ and challenged the country’s justice delivery system for hanging a terrorist killer who was convicted for attacking the Indian Parliament in December 2001. In short, it was a war cry against India and a show of strength in favour of her enemies. People across India, who watched on their TV sets, this shocking act of glorifying terrorists and their sordid deeds which are a threat to civil society and humanity the world over, were full of disgust and anguish. The national outrage was so severe that reactions included unwarranted calls for shutting down JNU or withdrawing its grants. This booklet is an honest review of the events and the history of this institution to drive home the point that JNU is not a culprit but a victim. These events in JNU have once again revealed that since long a bunch of desperate fifth-column communists and jihadi terror mongers have hijacked JNU’s image to achieve the nefarious goals of their political masters in India and paymasters abroad. To help JNU live up to the ideals for which it was established in early 1970s, it is essential that civil society makes concerted efforts to cleanse this temple of learning from the vice like grip of anarchists and anti-national elements masquerading as ‘progressives and liberals’. The events in JNU are the expressions of a mindset that is now ravaging parts of the Middle East, which has, in the past, killed millions in China, in the erstwhile Soviet Union and in Pol Pot’s Cambodia. Such a sick intellectual paradigm poses a threat, not only to India but to the entire world and especially to the core human values of freedom, pluralism, multiplicity and co-existence.
This book is a practical and comprehensive guide to succeeding in ASEAN countries. It allows for a deeper understanding of the business environment of these diverse economies. You will be better able to evaluate the risk factors and make meaningful decisions.
Each industry, from robotics to health care, power generation to software, has its own tailored reliability and quality principles, methods, and procedures. This book brings these together so that reliability and quality professionals can more easily learn about each other's work, which may help them, directly or indirectly, to perform their tasks more effectively.
Human reliability and error have become a very important issue in health care, owing to the vast number of associated deaths each year. For example, according to the findings of the Institute of Medicine in 1999, around 100000 Americans die each year because of human error. This makes human error in health care the eighth leading cause of deaths in the US. Moreover, the total annual national cost of the medical errors is estimated at between $17 billion and $37.6 billion. There are very few books on this subject, and none of them covers it at a significant depth. The need for a book presenting the basics of human reliability, human factors and comprehensive information on error in medical systems is essential. This book meets that need. Contents: Human Reliability and Error Mathematics; Human Factors Basics; Human Reliability and Error Basics; Methods for Performing Human Reliability and Error Analysis in Health Care System; Human Error in Medication; Human Error in Anesthesia; Human Error in Miscellaneous Health Care Areas and Health Care Human Error Cost; Human Factors in Medical Devices; Mathematical Models for Predicting Human Reliability and Error in Medical System; Health Care Human Error Reporting Systems and Data; Appendix: Bibliography: Literature on Human Reliability and Error in Health Care. Readership: Health care and safety professionals, administrators, students, human-factors/psychology specialists, biomedical engineers and health care researchers.
