Microbial lipases are industrially important and have gained attention due to their stability, selectivity, and broad substrate specificity. Lipases are used as medicine, and they also aid in indigestion, heartburn, allergy to gluten in wheat products (celiac disease), Crohn’s disease, and cystic fibrosis. This volume considers the industrial demand for new sources of lipases with different catalytic characteristics that stimulate the isolation, growth, and development of new microbial strains. The volume narrates the challenging metagenomic approach with the isolation of the lipase gene, its cloning into Escherichia coli, culture of the recombinant bacteria, and extraction and assessment of the lipase enzyme. Lipase-producing bacteria are available in different habitats, such as industrial wastes, vegetable oil processing factories, dairy plants, and soils contaminated with oil and oil seeds, among others. This volume is the effort of the authors to document the scientific findings carried out over the last eight years in the area of un-culturable soil microorganisms. The book presents the physic-chemical features of lipases and their specific applications in different commercial industries. The in-depth study looks at metagenomics for lipases from all angles and provides a truly informative resource. It describes the biochemical characterization of lipase enzymes with the high activity in the presence of 1% tributyrin. A wide review has been presented in the book on lipase enzymes purified from a large collection of microbes present in soil, seawater, waste-dumping sites, animal systems (including human beings), and the atmosphere. Stability of enzymes over changing environments of the industry is indeed a big issue, and the book deals at length with the changing temperatures and pH and metal ion concentrations.
Precambrian Geotectonics in the Himalaya provides a deep overview on geology and tectonics of the Precambrian domains of the Himalaya. Authored by an expert with over five decades of work in Precambrian Himalaya, the book studies 'Window' zones to provide a scope for understanding Precambrian deformation effects. The book specifically covers the holistic Precambrian geotectonic of the terrain and revises the subduction-back thrusting model of the Cenozoic evolution. Considering Precambrian regional events are not clearly recognised or visualised in many sectors due to overlapping crystallines, this book details a Precambrian geotectonic framework of the terrain on which the Himalayan event evolved. Precambrian Geotectonics in the Himalaya is a necessary reference for Earth scientists, exploration and hazard management scientists, professors (and students) who carry out research what requires a comprehensive picture of the Precambrian Himalaya and in totality with the adjacent peninsula. - Features comprehensive data gathered from decades of research on the Himalaya - Includes numerous detailed case studies that allow readers to comprehensively consider the data presented - Describes the Precambrian tectonostratigraphic history of the Himalayan terrain
Geology of the Himalayan Belt: Deformation, Metamorphism, Stratigraphy presents sophisticated metamorphic and igneous rock data across various Himalayan geographic sectors, capturing their petrography, metamorphism, structure, mineralization, and regional tectonic research. With an east-west extension of about 3000 kilometers and numerous 8000 meter peaks, the Himalayas are the most spectacular mountain ranges on earth. Since the 19th century, they have provided a testing ground of global importance for the development of geodynamic concepts, from isostasy over continental collision, to more recently, feedback mechanisms between tectonics and climate. This book collects the broad range of data that's been gathered on the Himalayas over the past 50 years, providing a comprehensive analysis and interpretation on the available data that brings the scientific community a better understanding of the geological diversity and structure of the Himalayan belt, along with new techniques that have applications in a host of global geological settings. - Features a vast amount of geological research data collected in the Himalayas over the past half century - Authored by a recognized global expert on the geology of the Himalayan belt - Presents analysis and interpretation techniques to aid scientists in conducting fieldwork and research - Provides the latest information on geodynamic concepts, from isostasy over continental collision, to more recently, feedback mechanisms between tectonics and climate
