For over 80 years the Royal Society of Chemistry and its predecessor, the Chemical Society, have been publishing reports charting developments in chemistry, which originally took the form of Annual Reports. However, by 1967 the whole spectrum of chemistry could no longer be contained within one volume and the series Specialist Periodical Reports was born. The Annual Reports themselves still existed but were divided into two, and subsequently three, volumes covering Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry. For more general coverage of the highlights in chemistry they remain a 'must'. Since that time the SPR series has altered according to the fluctuating degree of activity in various fields of chemistry. In over twenty years of ministry, I have married hundreds of couples. Every couple has brought unique elements to their wedding, but they have all shared the decision to express their love before family and friends in a relationship that carries both societal approval and legal protection. Until recently, they have also shared one other thing in common-none of these couples were same-sex. It just wasn't allowed. It bothered me that I was allowed to bless a same-sex couple's home, business, and pets, but not their love and their commitment to each other. If God is love, and if the gospel is a witness to this all-encompassing love, why was I not allowed to sanctify and hallow the love of two people created in the image of God, simply because they share a gender?
