It identifies appropriate situations and characters in select films – such as Padosi (1941), Hum Ek Hain (1946), Mughal-e-Azam (1960), Dharamputra (1961), Amar Akbar Anthony (1977), Ghulam-e-Musthafa (1997), Lagaan (2001) and Veer-Zara (2004) – and describes how positive messages have been articulated through them. It also examines the response of the film makers to the changes that have been taking place over the years in society vis-à-vis the communal milieu in the country and their contribution towards making a cinema that heals. Ever since its inception a century ago, Indian cinema, far more than other popular cultural medium, has consistently taken up highly appealing and socially relevant interpretations of popular religious beliefs and customs. It has often attempted to ensure that the audiences identified themselves with the characters as they enacted their roles on screen. This cinema, though dominated by love stories and romantic escapism, has, occasionally, sent out a powerful message against age-old religious orthodoxy and outdated traditions by emphasizing that such factors have caused tremendous social tensions and suffering. In a very significant way, Indian cinema has tried to systematically break down religious and other barriers (say, ethnic, language, caste and class) and has endeavoured to engender an egalitarian society despite numerous obstacles. Here is a work that all readers, film buffs or not, will find stimulating, engrossing and informative.

Major challenges faced by the industry with respect to the development of alternative aviation fuel are - high quality standards requirements, safety issues, wide range of operational conditions and drop-in kind with traditional aviation jet fuel. In the 2nd chapter, To describes significant optical features of luminescent materials have drawn immense appreciation in all walks of life including organic dyes, metal-organic frameworks, lanthanide compounds, semiconductor-based quantum dots, and carbon-based nanodots, which attribute numerous applications to these Luminescent materials. Moreover, they have been proven important in various applications, including gas storage and separation, heterogeneous catalysis, light-harvesting, chemical sensing, bio-imaging, and drug delivery. In the 3rd chapter, describes introduction of mixed ligand dithiolate complexes of cobalt, synthesis of mixed ligand complexes of cobalt (II) with dithiolate (1-methoxy carbonyl –1- cyano ethylene -2,2- dithiolate) and nitrogen donors. In the 4th chapter, Mixed ligand complexes of the type [Ni(L)n(dithio)] n=1 or 2 L= OPD, and various substituted pyridines, dithio=(NaS)2C=C(CN) COOMe.H2O have been synthesized and characterized. In the 5th chapter, discussed about conducting polymers (CPs) are chemical compounds or mixtures of compounds composed of structural units formed during the polymerization process. The prospective uses of CPs, particularly in the realm of electronic manufacturing, have piqued the curiosity of researchers. In the 6th chapter, BiOCl nanomaterial have been acknowledged as potential and promising environmental remediation material because of their low costs, low toxicities, and enormous stabilities as well as resourceful photocatalytic activities of various hazardous environmental pollutants including dyes, pesticides and several other organic pollutants etc. In the 7th chapter, discuss about polyaniline (PANI) which is reviewed as environmental remediation. In the 8th chapter, describe a the low cost activated carbon based adsorbent derived from the fruit of Kigelia Africana (KA), was characterized for effective removal of Pb (II) from its aqueous solution and determine the rate of adsorption. In the 9th chapter, discuss about Ionic liquid which has emerged as intriguing modern material in science and technology. To better comprehend and investigate the unusual and fascinating characteristics of ionic liquids. In the 10th chapter, to prepare the nanocomposites of Titania by solution impregnation method and used as photocatalyst for the degradation of acetic acid at various factors. Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have attracted high interest over the last few decades in the wireless and mobile computing research community. Applications of WSNs are numerous and growing, including indoor deployment scenarios in the home and office to outdoor deployment in an adversary’s territory in a tactical background. However, due to their distributed nature and deployment in remote areas, these networks are vulnerable to numerous security threats that can adversely affect their performance. This problem is more critical if the network is deployed for some mission-critical applications, such as in a tactical battlefield. Random failure of nodes is also very likely in real-life deployment scenarios. Due to resource constraints in the sensor nodes, a traditional security mechanism with high overhead of computation and communication is not feasible in WSNs. Design and implementation of secure WSNs is, therefore, a particularly challenging task. This book covers a comprehensive discussion on state-of-the-art security technologies for WSNs. It identifies various possible attacks at different layers of the communication protocol stack in a typical WSN and presents their possible countermeasures. A brief discussion on the future direction of research in WSN security is also included.

Nuclear isomers are the long-lived excited states of nuclei. Therefore, they constitute the meta-stable landscape of nuclei. The first isomer was probably identified as early as 1921. Since then, the number of isomers has been growing steadily picking up pace in recent times. Interest in nuclear isomers has grown in recent years for many reasons. The experimental capabilities to observe isomers have been expanding to cover a wider time scale. This has opened up new windows to observe and decipher the underlying nuclear structure and interactions. Further, the isomers are beginning to be seen as potential energy storage devices and nuclear clocks with a host of applications. Possible discovery of a gamma ray laser has also ignited many researches in this area. Isomers now cover the full nuclear landscape with structural peculiarities specific to each region of the nuclear chart. Exploring the nuclear isomers, therefore, provides a novel insight into the nuclear structure properties of that region. There could be many different reasons for the long lives of excited nuclear states, which lead to the classification of isomers. Isomers are broadly classified in to four classes: Spin isomers, shape isomers, fission isomers and K-isomers. Seniority isomers have also been identified which are often clubbed with the spin isomers. We discuss this classification and the underlying causes in detail. Many examples are considered to highlight the large variety of isomers. The range of half-lives covered by the isomers varies from billions of years to nano-seconds and even small. To understand this vast variation is a fascinating endeavor in itself. The angular momentum couplings, nuclear shapes, pairing etc. conspire together to give this vast range of half-lives. We go through these aspects in detail, highlighting the various selection rules at work. It is interesting that the nuclear shapes play an important role in many types of isomers. The spin isomers, which occur in spherical or, near-spherical nuclei, are generally confined to the magic numbers. Seniority isomers are largely found in semi-magic nuclei and should be explored in conjunction with the spin isomers. New developments in seniority and generalized seniority isomers are discussed in detail. As the nuclei deform; the nature of isomers changes. We take a close look into the decay properties of isomers in deformed nuclei, particularly the K isomers, the shape isomers and the fission isomers. While doing so, the theoretical and experimental developments of isomers are also addressed. A number of open questions are posed for possible new experiments and better understanding of the isomers.
