FOREWORD BY FRANCIS CHAN If we don't align with God's Word, we miss the kingdom He is establishing here on earth as it is in heaven. Once you read this book, you will understand how true alignment with God means submitting to His order so He can establish His Kingdom on earth. Even as the world grows darker and moves into the difficult events of the end times, Messianic Jewish author and Bible teacher Asher Intrater gives reason for hope, pointing to a corresponding revival with signs and wonders that emulate the Book of Acts. In this revised and updated edition, Intrater will take you on a captivating, scriptural journey to reveal what happens as the Messianic remnant is established in Israel and the international church embraces its Jewish roots. This long-awaited alignment will release an outpouring of the Holy Spirit, leading up to the second coming of Yeshua (Jesus). In addition, today Christian Arabs and Messianic Jews are being reconciled into a restored Abrahamic family of faith, demonstrating the love of God in the midst of political tension in the Middle East. You'll be inspired and challenged as you discover how this synergy within the body of believers is advancing God's eternal purpose for the kingdom of Messiah on earth with its capital in Jerusalem.
Chapter 3 The First Judgment: The World Prior To Adam There may have been many judgments upon the earth since its beginning millions or billions of years ago; however, the present commentary will deal only with the last tens of thousands of years of earth’s existence. In Genesis 1:2, the verses written by Moses (as author of the Genesis account) portray an earth that was veiled in darkness so that its form could not be discerned. The earth at that time was covered with water (ice) high above the mountain tops so that it gave the appearance of being a dark revolving sphere of frozen water (Table-2). God’s spirit is described as hovering over this revolving ball of water and brooding over the sad condition of this dark, void planet. God did not create a dark and dismal planet at the beginning, because God does not create darkness; in fact, darkness is incompatible with His existence and presence. So what had happened that God viewed (Gen. 1:2) such a decrepit state of the world? Does scripture attempt to explain this phenomenon, or does the inspired word of God remain silent on this issue? It was first proposed as a theory by the Scotsman Thomas Chalmers in the early 19th century that a “gap” in time existed between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2. This gap-in-time would encompass a “ruin-reconstruction theme” and the existence of pre-Adamic living beings. Obviously, a huge catastrophic event would have had to occur to produce this decadent state of the world. The “gap concept” was later popularized by mention in the margin notes of the Scofield Reference Bible.
The book discusses scores of actual questions on ethical dilemmas in business as well as everyday life. The author, Rabbi Dr. Asher Meir, not only gives answers but also provides a lucid and inspiring presentation of underlying ethical concepts, with special emphasis on the insights of Jewish tradition. The discussions sensitize the reader to ethical concerns in all areas of life, and build a comprehensive foundation of concepts to help resolve these concerns. In discussing topics such as marketing, human resources, and fair competition, attention is given to many up-to-date issues; and there is an entire chapter dedicated to "ethics on the Internet.
This new project concentrates on the power of love and other passions that changed the world. As we consider the Bible as a historical document we cannot help but wonder about those personalities in the Bible who can take credit for creating a multitude of tribal orders and nations throughout the globe. Sarah and Abraham were the very first ancestors who discovered Monotheism and consequently gave birth to powerful nations who ended up populating nearly half of the people’s planet. One of the most populous nations on earth: Islam , was created as a result of Sarah’s consent to have Abraham (her husband) consort with her maid: Hagar. Ishmael was born and he became the father of twelve powerful tribes. Love in The Bible speaks about how entire kingdoms were formed and other destroyed. It also emphasizes the power of seduction aimed at altering a destiny of a nation. Delilah sought to destroy Samson in order to guarantee the supremacy of the Philistines over the Israelites. Athaliah the mean destroyed her own children in order to maintain power. Jezebel managed to do away with over four hundred so called prophets in order to maintain her power over the land. Those women of power did evil while using their men. Delilah used Samson by seducing him and convincing him to disclose the secret of his power. Jezebel and Athaliah used their men kings in order establish their own kingdom. On the other hand, there were impressive female heroes. Deborah was a pure military strategist who saved a whole nation with her inspiration and positive attitude towards victory. Deborah was also a poetess and a highly praised judge who kept a nation in peace for forty years. Esther was a special queen who came to the rescue of the entire Jewish Persian minority because she was the preferred woman of King Xerxes. King Solomon in his “Song of Songs” described love and romance in a manner that can be duplicated in our modern era. His poetry is still read and appreciated in our times and it can be quoted repeatedly by true lovers of our century. Romance and the longing for love have never changed. Lovers can be imaginative and use silly ways to remain in love as they do today. However, love can take different turns as well. A true shocking story of love by accident is the story of Judah who became the father of Judaism. Could anyone imagine that Judah, the head of the tribe of Judah, a tribe that was almost extinct, suddenly became the ancestor of the most populous tribe of Israel? It happened at a time where Judah was almost childless. By accident, he encountered a woman named Tamar, who paused as a harlot. However, since Judah did not recognize her he became intimate with her. Tamar was actually Judah’s daughter in law. Since her two husbands (Judah’s sons) died- it was Judah’s duty to have Tamar marry the only surviving son. That never happened either. As Tamar used a special ruse to fool Judah, she conceived and she became the actual ancestress of Judaism, as we know it today. This intriguing (soap opera-like) story is described in details. What is more, she became the ancestor of Boaz and David, King of Israel. Both Jews and Christians claim Tamar as their ancestor, while Christians state that King David was twenty generations apart from Jesus. Love And Romance in The Bible depicts other passions such as incest and rape. The daughters of Lot who saw it necessary to ‘revive’ seed from their own father because they were afraid of their generation becoming extinct committed incest. The Bible does not condemn nor condone this act. However, the curious outcome was that two nations evolved out of this incestuous act: Moab and Ammon. The Amnon and Tamar (daughter of David)’s story is a perfect example of an insecure man (son of David) who gets infatuated with his half sister (Tamar) and ends up abusing and humiliating her. In the
Professor Moshe Bar-Asher, Professor Emeritus at the Hebrew University and long-time president of the Academy of the Hebrew Language, has published more than 200 articles and sixteen books and edited aboout 90 books and collections. The vast majority of his work has been accessible, however, only to specialists who read modern Hebrew or French. Bar-Asher’s groundbreaking articles on the dialects of rabbinic literature are classics. In more recent years he has brought the same breadth and depth of grammatical knowledge, and philological acumen, to the study of older classical Hebrew texts, including literary and epigraphic texts. This volume presents studies of individual words and verses within the Bible, as well as broader thematic discussions of biblical language and its long reception-history, down through medieval scribes and modern lexicographers. Also represented are Bar-Asher’s penetrating studies of Qumran texts and languages, which illuminate both the linguistic traditions reflected in these texts and the scribal culture from which they emerged. The third section contains studies of Mishnaic Hebrew. There are both sweeping surveys of the field and its accomplishments and challenges, and studies of specific phonological, morphological, syntactic and lexical features.
The power of the words in the Bible and their meaning is the object of our study. The words and their implications take us through a magic journey of events. Many events happen through the word of God or the word of Moses or the word of Jacob or the words of Joseph. Such words "Abraham, Abraham," "Moses, Moses" and "Hear O Israel" still resound in our ears till today. The Power of the word is also a blessing. The word of Isaac and his blessing to his children Jacob and Esau is so meaningful that a feud occurs between them, as we shall see. By going through the historical chain of events, we will try to understand the words, their meanings, and what is hidden between the lines.
A compelling book that casts the Qur’anic encounter with Jews in an entirely new light In this panoramic and multifaceted book, Meir Bar-Asher examines how Jews and Judaism are depicted in the Qur’an and later Islamic literature, providing needed context to those passages critical of Jews that are most often invoked to divide Muslims and Jews or to promote Islamophobia. He traces the Qur’anic origins of the protection of Jews and other minorities living under the rule of Islam, and shows how attitudes toward Jews in Shi‘i Islam are substantially different from those in Sunni Islam. Bar-Asher sheds light on the extraordinary contribution of Jewish tradition to the Muslim exegesis of the Qur’an, and draws important parallels between Jewish religious law, or halakha, and shari‘a law. An illuminating work on a topic of vital relevance today, Jews and the Qur’an offers a nuanced understanding of Islam’s engagement with Judaism in the time of Muhammad and his followers, and serves as a needed corrective to common misperceptions about Islam.
In this groundbreaking work that sets apart fact and legend, authors Finkelstein and Silberman use significant archeological discoveries to provide historical information about biblical Israel and its neighbors. In this iconoclastic and provocative work, leading scholars Israel Finkelstein and Neil Asher Silberman draw on recent archaeological research to present a dramatically revised portrait of ancient Israel and its neighbors. They argue that crucial evidence (or a telling lack of evidence) at digs in Israel, Egypt, Jordan, and Lebanon suggests that many of the most famous stories in the Bible—the wanderings of the patriarchs, the Exodus from Egypt, Joshua’s conquest of Canaan, and David and Solomon’s vast empire—reflect the world of the later authors rather than actual historical facts. Challenging the fundamentalist readings of the scriptures and marshaling the latest archaeological evidence to support its new vision of ancient Israel, The Bible Unearthed offers a fascinating and controversial perspective on when and why the Bible was written and why it possesses such great spiritual and emotional power today.
Discover the Biblical Blueprint for Building Relationships that Last! Even though the topic of relationships is very popular, few individuals ever reach the point of building deep, lasting, and meaningful bonds with others. Why do our connections with other people seem to stay superficial and never go beyond the surface-level? Because...
Set against the backdrop of Roman imperial history, The Message and the Kingdom demonstrates how the quest for the kingdom of God by Jesus, Paul, and the earliest churches should be understood as both a spiritual journey and a political response to the "mindless acts of violence, inequality, and injustice that characterized the kings of men." Horsley and Silberman reveal how the message of Jesus and Paul was profoundly shaped by the history of their time as well as the social conditions of the congregations to whom they preached.
“Easily the best biography of the great Nelson Algren, and an extraordinary book in its own right.” —Blake Bailey, author of Cheever: A Life For a time, Nelson Algren was America’s most famous author, lauded by the likes of Richard Wright and Ernest Hemingway. But at the height of his career, he abandoned fiction and fell into obscurity. Colin Asher’s sublime biography of Algren unravels the enigma of his disappearance, explores the richness of his novels and nonfiction writing, and explains how a rash creative decision may have led his enemies to denounce him to the FBI during the Red Scare. Asher tells Algren’s story in rich, novelistic detail, including his long-term affair with Simone de Beauvoir and the emotional breakdown that nearly cost him his life. Drawing from interviews, archival correspondence, and Algren’s 886-page FBI file, Never a Lovely So Real portrays Algren as a dramatic iconoclast and reclaims him as a towering literary figure.
Marshalling previously untapped Christian materials, Bar-Asher Siegal offers radically new insights into Talmudic stories about Scriptural debates with Christian heretics.
This book examines literary analogies in Christian and Jewish sources, culminating in an in-depth analysis of striking parallels and connections between Christian monastic texts (the Apophthegmata Patrum or 'The Sayings of the Desert Fathers') and Babylonian Talmudic traditions. The importance of the monastic movement in the Persian Empire, during the time of the composition and redaction of the Babylonian Talmud, fostered a literary connection between the two religious populations. The shared literary elements in the literatures of these two elite religious communities sheds new light on the surprisingly inclusive nature of the Talmudic corpora and on the non-polemical nature of elite Jewish-Christian literary relations in late antique Persia.
This is a fiction book about biblical icons who 'come back' to earth in order to listen to and judge their supporters. Jesus comes back and faces Moses and Aaron. For Christians, Jesus is the symbol of purity and deity. For Jews, Moses is the prophet who produced the laws for all humanity. Moses is considered in the book of Genesis to be the humblest of all men. While Moses, Jesus, Paul and Aaron are having a serious talk, a heated debate is taking place here on earth among bible lovers and objective scholars. Community leaders organize conferences in several towns around the country and invite spiritual leaders, scientists and anthropologists to discuss the concept of Creation versus Evolution. In the fictive world of our biblical icons, more and more historic figures appear and join the circle of discussion and debate about the original biblical laws and how some laws have been changed throughout history. It is being exciting. Back on earth, a friendly but frank dialogue on the Judeo-Christian relations takes place. Rabbis, men of church and scientists vent their opinions about the sour and happy moments, which took place during the last 2000 years, between Jews and Christians. Efforts are made between both parties to clear several myths, which separated the two camps throughout history. While the above is taking place, Moses, Jesus and others are invisible to the audience. The readers of this project are lead to realize that, after a painful and a historic confrontation between our biblical icons, a somewhat positive and constructive bridge has been formed. Their mutual understanding was based on the biblical commandments, which are accepted by both religions. Several doubts have been cleared. The multiple conferences between humans ended up establishing a long list of findings, thus enabling a constructive rapprochement between both religions. It was concluded that, despite some differences, both religions could live comfortably with each other within mutual respect and mutual tolerance. Israeli bestseller Dr Adam Ackerman, commenting on Mr. Elkayam's work on the Bible, said among other things that Mr. Elkayam '... shows deep knowledge of the Bible, the New Testament and the Qur'An. His books promote the tolerant people of all faiths and strengthen the belief to advance together to real peace in the world. His books should ...be translated into many languages.
Inventing New Beginnings is the first book-length study to examine the conceptual underpinnings of the "Jewish Renaissance," or "return" to Judaism, that captured much of German-speaking Jewry between 1890 and 1938. The book addresses two very fundamental, yet hitherto strangely understated, questions: What did the term "renaissance" actually mean to the intellectuals and ideologues of the "Jewish Renaissance," and how did this understanding relate to wider currents in European intellectual and cultural history of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries? It also addresses the larger question of how we can contemplate "renaissance" as a mode of thought that is conditioned by the consciousness and experience of modernity and that extends to our present time.
In this seminal work, an attorney puts Jesus on trial, explaining to Jews, Christians and the theologically curious; why Jesus did not qualify as the Jewish messiah; why believing in Jesus cuts Jews off from G-d forever in the World To Come; how the Christian Bible has strategically mistranslated key verses in the "Old Testament" to shoehorn Jesus into the text." This compelling new book calls "unorthodox" Jews back to Torah Judaism. Black, White and Read Publishing.
The Nusayrīs - also known as ʿAlawīs -have been in power in Syria for the past three decades. Little is known of their origins or their long history, while their religious creeds and thought are somewhat better known. The main reason for our fragmentary knowledge of the Nusayrī religion is that, since its beginnings, it has always been the secret faith of a self-conscious elite that zealously guarded its sectarian literature. The Nusayrī-ʿAlawī faith is a clear example of a syncretistic religion. It combines and fuses elements of cults and creeds of very disparate, and remote, origins. Among these are various pagan beliefs (residues of ancient Mesopotamian and Syrian cults), as well as Persian, Christian, Gnostic, and Muslim - both Sunnī and Shīʿī - religious precepts and practices. All these components have been brought together in a syncretistic religious system that has assumed a heterodox Shīʿī garb. The present volume presents a mosaic of fundamental aspects of Nusayrī theology and liturgy. It demonstrates the complexity of Nusayrī theology and the diversity of religious thought within the Nusayrī fold.

This moving and compelling tour de force will not leave a single reader unaffected, as every individual who reads this book will embark on a personal journey of struggle and inner confrontation. The author acts as the readers' personal guide, examining society's most private basic assumptions, as well as life's most fundamental values and doctrines. Several of the issues revealed, include: Have our most natural and passionate understandings of masculinity and femininity been entirely swapped in today's world for a life that is 'politically correct' and numb? Is secular Jewry as unfettered and liberal as they claim and are the religious truly following Judaism and not Christianity? How is it that Peace Now and the religious settlers are actually moving towards the same goal, despite the apparent polarity of opinions? And which side is making the wrong assumptions, thereby delaying the common objective? What does science, if anything, have to do with Judaism, and why is it that almost all those that ask questions about the relationship between the two are missing the point? Why is love and hate the perfect partners, and how is it possible to accomplish love through hate? After exploring the root causes of the various personal and societal trends within the Jewish world today, Keren presents a fresh entry into a Judaism that has been forgotten by most, religious and secular alike. For those courageous enough to enter, the author offers a brave, passionate and embracing new Jewish world and the opportunity for a time to change. This book pulls no punches and not many sacred cows emerge unscathed. Warning: Not for the timid.
The ancient Jewish spiritual tradition of Kabbalah is shown to be far more than an otherworldly, occult way of knowledge -- it is a direct, often revolutionary response to the tyranny of earthly potentates and kings.
