The Indian state of Kerala has invoked much attention within development and gender debates, specifically in relation to its female capital- an outcome of interrelated historical, cultural and social practices. On the one hand, Kerala has been romanticised, with its citizenry, particularly women, being free of social divisions and uplifted through educational well-being. On the other hand, its realism is stark, particularly in the light of recent social changes. Using a Bourdieusian frame of analysis, Development and Gender Capital in India explores the forces of globalisation and how they are embedded within power structures. Through narratives of women’s lived experiences in the private and public domains, it highlights the ‘anomie of gender’ through complexities and contradictions vis-à-vis processes of modernity, development and globalisation. This book provides a structured introduction of the key concepts and techniques that enable in-/near-memory computing. For decades, processing-in-memory or near-memory computing has been attracting growing interest due to its potential to break the memory wall. Near-memory computing moves compute logic near the memory, and thereby reduces data movement. Recent work has also shown that certain memories can morph themselves into compute units by exploiting the physical properties of the memory cells, enabling in-situ computing in the memory array. While in- and near-memory computing can circumvent overheads related to data movement, it comes at the cost of restricted flexibility of data representation and computation, design challenges of compute capable memories, and difficulty in system and software integration. Therefore, wide deployment of in-/near-memory computing cannot be accomplished without techniques that enable efficient mapping of data-intensive applications to such devices, without sacrificing accuracy or increasing hardware costs excessively. This book describes various memory substrates amenable to in- and near-memory computing, architectural approaches for designing efficient and reliable computing devices, and opportunities for in-/near-memory acceleration of different classes of applications.

The genius of Bheeshma Pitamah is seen through the conduct of the eighteen day war which after the tenth day soon deteriorated to complete infamy after he fell to the arrows of Arjuna in the battle of Kurukshetra. This Military Genius is also an expert of spirituality whose roots are entrenched in his pious origins, from the womb of the Holy Gangaa and the inflexible vows of celibacy that he took and led a highly disciplined life, devoted to the Lord Naaraayana and the Crown of Hastinapur. He and he alone could postpone the hour of his departure from this terrestrial world and he did it successfully by delaying the hour of his death by almost two months, fifty eight days to be precise. The very interesting part of this episode is that since he was a warrior perfect, he decided to he on the bed of arrows in the middle of the battlefield, rather than on the silken couch of the Royal Palace at Hastinapur. Being a perfeect example of duty i.e. Dharma and courage unlimited, to the Emperor Yudhishthir, he gave the one thousand names of the spiritual entity whose recitation would remove all misery from this planet Earth and who alone is worthy of recitation for all living beings. This book is the firsthand account of the first nuclear powered submarine of the Indian Navy, a Charlie class SSGN, leased from the USSR for three years, 1988 - 1991. The lease of the SSGN enabled the Indian Navy to base, maintain and operate nuclear powered submarines. It also facilitated development of design for indigenous construction of atomic submarines. An ecosystem for radiation monitoring, safety services and waste management was also created. The author was associated with the submarine from selection of the crew to the return of the submarine. The training of the crew in Vladivostok from 1983 - 1986 is detailed in Part 1 and the commissioning in Jan 1988 and exploitation of the boat in India till its return to the USSR in Jan 1991 is illustrated in Part 2. Cmde Arun Kumar graduated from the National Defence Academy in Dec 1971 and was commissioned in the rank of Sub Lt on 01 Jul 1973. He joined the Submarine Arm in May 1975 and served for 28 years in the arm eventually swallowing the anchor as a Cmde in May 2004. In the submarine arm the officer has held all major appointments. He commanded two Kilo class boats INS Sindhuraj, INS Sindhughosh. He also held command of the submarine base INS Virbahu, Submarine School, INS Satavahana and as COMSUB East Commanded the 8th and 11th submarine Squadrons as also the 10th Submarine Squadron as Capt SM. He played an important part in the growth of the Arm as The Principal Director Submarine Acquisition in steering the 30 year SM building Plan at NHQ in his last appointment. The officer also commanded the missile destroyer INS Rajput. The Officer also graduated in Basic Submarine Course, Long Navigation and Direction Course, Submarine COQC standing first in all. He also underwent the Defence Services Staff and Naval Higher Command and Defence Management courses with distinction. He was selected for nuclear submarine training in Aug 1982 and completed the 30 months (Oct 83-Apr 1986) training in Vladivostok, USSR. He was part of the Commissioning and Decommissioning crew of Chakra as the First Lt and Executive Officer respectively. For his dedicated services of exceptionally high order, he was decorated twice by the President of India with Nau Sena Medal (NM) and Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) in 1991 and 2003 respectively.

Islamic Radicalisation In India: Origin And Challenges Book in English by Arun Anand Two sets of developments have become quite visible over the last fewyears. While scores of activists belonging to Hindu organisations havebeen killed by radical Islamists; there Is also a growing clamour within a sectionof Indian Muslims to assert their religious identity aggressively and display itexplicitly. There are some crucial aspects of radicalisation of Muslims in India thatneed to be understood. First, unlike the western world, radicalisation in India ishappening not only in urban areas but also in far flung as well as remote ruralareas. The population in rural India needs to be watched and monitored moreclosely in this regard. Second, radicalisation in India has been ‘legitimised’ in thename of ‘protecting minority rights’ by many political parties for garneringMuslim votes. Their regressive stand on issues like hijab and silence on thekilling of Hindu activists by radical Islamists further perpetuates radicalisation.Third, as a society we are refusing to learn lessons from the past. Radicalisationof Muslims led to partition of India in 1947. It is time not to be like that pigeonwho closes eyes thinking the cat doesn't exist and ends getting eaten up.
Indian agriculture has witnessed spectacular advances in agricultural production in the last few decades. This was possible through green revolution in mid 60s leading to the country’s remarkable achievement in food grains and edible oil production. Seed has always been regarded as the most vital, basic and critical input in agriculture. It is interesting to note that today seed demand of only 10% farmers is met. Efforts are needed to provide good quality certify seeds to farmers. In recent years the awareness for seed health has increased among the growers, traders, and consumers. In post-GATT era and with emergence of WTO, seed health has assumed the global concern. Infection of seed borne pathogens results into seed rots, seedling decay, pre and post emergence mortality, distortion, discoloration, reduced seed size and shrivelledness of seeds. Their study and identification is primarily required to achieve satisfactory control. The book will be of great help to students, researchers, and people engaged in seed production activities. In this book, information about different seed borne diseases is presented in 20 chapters. There is an urgent need to find out effective, alternative methods of diseases control, which are less harmful to human beings and environment. There are chapters dealing with botanical pesticides and quarantine regulations. A chapter describes molecular aspects involved in seed borne diseases. The contents are divided into two parts (I) Seed borne diseases and (II) Wilt and foliar diseases and their control methods. Ecofriendly measures to control seed borne diseases are dealt in detail. The book provides comprehensive and integrated information on management of seed health written by experts in the field. It will be especially useful for students and young people involved in seed testing, seed industry as well as in teaching. Besides Agriculture Universities the book will be useful for all others offering courses related to Phytopathology and Seed Technology.
