Taking a cognitive approach to musical meaning, Arnie Cox explores embodied experiences of hearing music as those that move us both consciously and unconsciously. In this pioneering study that draws on neuroscience and music theory, phenomenology and cognitive science, Cox advances his theory of the "mimetic hypothesis," the notion that a large part of our experience and understanding of music involves an embodied imitation in the listener of bodily motions and exertions that are involved in producing music. Through an often unconscious imitation of action and sound, we feel the music as it moves and grows. With applications to tonal and post-tonal Western classical music, to Western vernacular music, and to non-Western music, Cox's work stands to expand the range of phenomena that can be explained by the role of sensory, motor, and affective aspects of human experience and cognition.
Winning Your Family's Battle Over Worry Worry Free Living explores every family's daily battles with stress from three perspectives - how it affects our mind, body, and spirit - and gives readers easy-to-follow plans for finding relief. The authors help parents identify what's bugging their families and how to clarify their worries, sorting them into those they can and cannot do something about. What's more, Cole and Ross have filled various chapters with the latest Back to the Bible research findings from Pamela Ovwigho, PhD - a leading researcher with the Center for Bible Engagement. They also include some of the best insights, advice, and treatment options from a variety of medical professionals. Most importantly, they explain everything within the understanding of a Master Creator, God, who is the ultimate Counselor and Healer. Ideal for individual use and group study, this resource helps readers: 1. Uncover the most common worries and stress-points of men, women, kids, and "twenty-somethings" in our care 2. Become self-aware: evaluating the stress in our households and plotting realistic steps toward change 3. Reach out to those we love-from worried spouses and in-laws to teens and young children 4. Understand the difference between the mind (what we think) and the brain (the physical processes of chemical reactions) ... and how they contribute to worry 5. Learn to de-stress our thinking and calm down our bodies 6. Give up unhealthy religiosity-such as the false belief that "worrying is a sign that we lack faith" 7. Reject the myth that we are in control and learn to take Jesus at His word: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). In the words of Dr. Archibald Hart (one of the experts interviewed in this book), "You must come down from the 'hills' of stress and into the 'valleys' of rest on a daily basis." Our bodies are not designed for a continual state of fear, worry, and anxiety - but instead for continual tranquility with short bursts of adrenaline. Worry Free Living shows moms, dads, caregivers, and ministers alike how to break the cycle of unnecessary suffering and find peace in Christ.
Living through a solid share of significant, historical events, I must admit it has been a hell of an exciting, history-filled life. The Great Depression, World WW II, my combat in the Korean War, Vietnam, the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, the amazing technological breakthroughs, McCarthy times, the Kennedys, Nixon, the Clintons, the Bushes, 9/11, Trump, the turmoil with Russia and the Ukraine, the pandemic and “January 6” all contributed to the drama of living. My personal impressions and memories of people I knew of those times are included in this collection. For those too young to have experienced the times, I hope the stories bring some enlightenment. For those who were “there” during those events, I hope to restore some cherished memories

The last decade has seen an out-pouring of new books by Christian authors that present the scientific evidence for cosmic and biological evolution. The significance of these details challenges the traditional theological understanding of creation and urges Christ-followers to adopt an evolutionary creationist approach. Failure to do so puts science and faith on a collision course. A Reasonable God identifies the issues, synthesizes the viewpoints, and encourages readers to step outside their comfort zone and wrestle with some of the ambiguities and uncertainties. The book is a great asset for post-secondary students who are confronted with the evidences, and for church leaders who are looking for a quick way to become better informed.
Back to the Bible Leaders Show Readers How to Cultivate a Thriving Walk with Christ When asked about their relationship with God, many believers say the Christian life "isn't working" or that they want "more than an okay walk." After conducting extensive survey research on what it takes to grow spiritually, Back to the Bible leaders Cole and Ross offer solid evidence for the power of Bible engagement. But more than statistics, Unstuck gives readers a practical and proven way to encounter Scripture daily, connect with God, and revitalize an otherwise listless faith. This book is part of a strategic ministry plan developed by Back to the Bible, which has been on the air for more than 70 years. Through multimedia products and services, the ministry is walking alongside individuals and churches, helping Christ-followers tap into and live out God's Word.
