Sonia is twenty years old and alone in the world. Her parents died in a mysterious bombing accident, and she's been living with her aunt and uncle ever since. When things suddenly go awry, the truth comes out: Sonia's parents' death was no accident. They were set up, and they left a very important list for their little girl. Sonia's aunt and uncle flee with their family, because Sonia is now set on a dangerous mission. Her parents left her a list of people she has to kill in order to avenge them and stay alive. She is prepared for this undertaking, but she is shocked to discover her high school crush is part of the plan, as well. She must train him to become a killer, too. Slowly, Sonia forms a talented team. She travels all over India in search of villains on her parents' hit list. Relationships form between team members, as do suspicions. After all, can killers really trust each other? There are ten targets and one team. Will they catch and kill the traitors, or will something go horribly awry, just like the murder of Sonia's parents?
The corrupt director was put in jail with his allied conspirators, and the new director appointed was the perfect choice for the job. Simran and Radhika with the others resumed their duty in school, but troubles still lurked around the corner. Examining the relationship between sedition and liberal democracies, particularly in India, this book looks at the biography of sedition laws, its contradictory position against free speech, and democratic ethics. Recent sedition cases registered in India show that the law in its wide and diverse deployment was used against agitators in a community-based pro-reservation movement, group of university students for their alleged ‘anti-national’ statements, anti-liquor activists, and anti-nuclear movement, to name a few. Set against its contemporary use, this book has used sedition as a lens to probe the fate of political speech in liberal democracy. The lived reality of the law of sedition in changing anthropological sites is juxtaposed with its positivist existence. Anushka Singh uses a comparative framework keeping in focus the Indian experience backed by fieldwork in Haryana, Maharashtra, and Delhi, and includes a comparative perspective from England, the USA, and Australia to contribute to debates on sedition within liberal democracies at large, especially in the wake of the proliferation of counter-terror legislations.
