My father's work has always been admired by his family. As well as the charming forms and shapes the textures and surface finishes are always varied and always offer delight. Whilst shining a creative flame that displays a joyful naivety, un-doused by the waters of the art colleges, my father's work is too sophisticated and influenced by historical and contemporary cultures to be considered Outsider Art. His work has been exhibited with the Cumbria Sculptors and was amongst the only works sold. The work has un-tempered energy, beauty, warmth of spirit, creativity and wit. In my studies of the ceramic art of Pablo Picasso it was easy to see similarities in the equally prolific ceramic works of my father Donald Padgett. So, it is my pleasure to present for you a selection of his original works. These show his talent and vision as a ceramicist. These essays explore the relationship between art and religion. The first part, 2001-2002, is essays about "The Ism," where 1994-9 Padgett united religious and spiritual perspectives by uniting the art-forms appropriate to them. The second part is essays from 2002-2005, when Padgett studied at Wimbledon School of Art, London, for an MA in Theory of Contemporary Art and Performance. Padgett looks at artists (Damien Hirst, Thomas Hirschhorn, Anton Artaud, Jake and Dinos Chapman Brothers, Guillermo Gomez-Pena etc) and develops the idea of "Postmodern Religious Art." His program of uniting the art-forms is progressed by uniting the specific material forms of religions in semi-irony with the profane - whilst keeping the sacred as of highest importance. The final part is the questionnaire that Padgett submitted to the Employment Tribunals, giving the main arguments behind his claim that the Tate Galleries were exercising religious discrimination in the way they selected artworks.

A part of my artwork ""A Year With Picasso"" I wrote ?Revulsion Freed From A Headlock?. This is my response to Pablo Picasso's main surreal play, published in 1945 ?Desire Caught By The Tail?. As my title suggests, it is an inversion of his work. My methodology in art is to look for what has not been done. And one of the tools I use for this is inversion. For instance, in my paintings I looked at Picasso and Braque's Cubism (with its straight lines and angles) and created my own Curveism. This inquiry into the relationship between the “step” in dance and the “foot” in verse invites the reader into a tapestry woven by its crossed paths. A duel career as a dancer and as a poet allows the author to follow his interest in the dance origins of scansion and link it to how the foot connects lyric writing to an “exiled sense” through the felt tread of its rhythm. This is to rediscover the physical feeling of poetry; the fulcrum of a relationship that goes back to the Greek chorus, when every phrase was danced. The author shows how verse and the dance emerged together, as we initially developed bipedalism and speech. Written is a discursive style which allows the author to wander whenever digression seems appropriate, the book offers the reader an entertaining compendium of anecdotes, notions and quotes concerning the relation between our words and our movements. Walking in itself may have ushered in predication —syntax—putting one word in front of another as one put one foot in front of another. Did song emerge separately from language and stimulate ritual dance among women who linked their steps to sounds? The link of speech with movement is explored in ancient art, in theatre and in military drill and psychoanalysis. From the ballet to performance art, the author traces the evolution of recent creativity—free verse finding a parallel in Mick Jagger dancing freely on his own in the ‘60s while performance artists used the freedom of conceptual art to explore “action phrases” linking task-orientated movement with verbal articulation.
