Poetry and artistic expression used for healing and restoration has been common since ancient times. From primitive chants used during healing ceremonies to the modern recognition of art’s relationship to healing by great figures in the world of medicine, acknowledgment of its value is unmistakable. This anthology of poetry aims to aid in the healing and restoration of both its contributors and readers. In the words of Freud, “Not I, but the poet discovered the unconscious.”
POETRY Art is the universal language of the soul. In its truest form it lifts the spirit and consciousness of not only those that create it, but every being that experiences it. For it is this attribute we believe above all others that unites us as one-human family. In our darkest moments it is this light that shines through the artist into the hearts and minds of the world. Th is anthology is the perfect opportunity for us not to only listen to, but to see life through the eyes of theses amazing young poets. And in doing so, we look beyond the challenges of today to the hopes, dreams and answers of tomorrow. We are not defi ned by the things we possess or the clothes that we wear, but by our imagination of things others cannot see. It pleases us to support Project SOAR, a Federal funded project that encourages students to open their minds and hearts. To imagine and to reach beyond what they know so far, into the world of their hearts where a wonderful future lies. And this project is inspirational as well as practical because it gives students tools to make their dreams come true. For it is this that makes us truly architects of a new dawn. This poetry anthology gives students the wonderful opportunity to share their deepest feelings and their highest dreams. When we share our insights with others, we build community, which works towards joining, and not separating us as a human race. Even the River Starts Small is a collection of stories from the movement to stop construction of the Line 3 pipeline through northern Minnesota. The collection features anonymous writing, art, and photos spanning nearly a decade, and includes reflections on many of the diverse experiences that made up this grassroots resistance. There are hundreds of individual pieces of writing and visual art in the collection published in full color. Line 3 is a tar sands oil pipeline that threatens communities, land, and water along its route, as well as the future of our climate. In 2021, despite fierce resistance, Enbridge completed construction of Line 3. Anishinaabe water protectors led the fight, asserting their sovereignty to oppose construction of this extractive project through their lands. For the better part of a decade thousands of people in Minnesota and around turtle island joined together to try and stop construction with a wide range of tactics. After construction of the pipeline was complete, a group of young volunteer organizers from the movement set out to gather stories from the resistance to create a book that could be given to the movement as a gift. That team originally published Even the River Starts Small, the result of that project, in a limited distribution and gave away copies for free to people who were involved in resisting construction of Line 3. The book is now available for all through Haymarket Books.
ForewordIt has been said that words are sacred...that everything in our existence is created by words. "In the beginning...was the Word". Words are one of our few renewable constants. Words carry energy, words can move emotions, and words bring light. This adventure in words was originally inspired by a project dedicated to the memory of those who were affected by the events surrounding the 9/11 tragedy in New York City, and evolved into the book that you are now holding in your hands. For the 11 Words...9 Lines anthology, the challenge was to use our most powerful words to write poems consisting of only 9 lines and 11 words, in any pattern. There were no limits placed on the topics that poets could write about, so they were free to create from their hearts. Everyone was invited to contribute their words for this project, from seasoned poets to those who had never written a poem before. Poets shared their offerings from around the world to make this anthology one of the year's most diverse literary collections. We hope that the impact of each poem will allow you to see into each poet's world, while giving you the chance to see how the use of a few words can paint an entire landscape, tell a whole story, and leave you completely satisfied...so, enjoy!Inner light...chosenbeingsloving...forgiving...changing...shifting...renewing...Chasing darknessWynne Y. a word from . . . Karama SadakaSometimes even the greatest of ideas can suffer from lack of planning and flawed execution. This was NOT the case however with The Poetic Idol Competition. From the competitors themselves all the way over to the judges, everyone gave it their all from the moment the mic was first opened allowing us to share and be inspired. Some of us called in from the road, our jobs and even from the hospital (yikes!). We laughed, we cried, screamed and shouted, but we all came away each week feeling like we truly shared a moving experience. In the end, it was something I personally won't forget anytime soon and I have no doubt it will be even better next "season". Please enjoy the offerings from our community presented here.Karama Sadaka

Fiction Noir: Thirteen Stories is an anthology of stories that blend the elements of pulp fiction with the subtleties of film noir. Most stories are driven by a strong narrative, usually by a flawed character, with a dark side. Others are narrated by an everyman (or woman) who experience the world through a dark lens. Either way, the stories are compelling and guaranteed to take the reader on an adventure.

Inside young minds is an anthology of short stories that will take your breath away. It is sum total of the incredible creativity of eight young authors (Janhabi B Dutta. Varuni Sampat, Yukta Jaiswal, Shveni Kanwar, Muskaan Hooda, Divya Dalal, Mahima Arora, Nishtha Setia). In this fast-paced world, it is vital to slow down and think about life. How incredible this world is. It is no less than a miracle. Another miracle is that you can leave your busy schedule and see things from another person’s eyes. It is like your soul leaving your body temporarily, and entering into another body. Reading books is one of the ways to understand and enter another world, one concocted by the mind of the author. When you read a book, you perceive things from the author’s perspective. Since this is an anthology, you can take a look inside multiple minds in a single book. The authors of this book have described their views of this world. From experiences to fantasies, that our young minds have, has been attempted to portray in this book. This book will connect to your heart and become a part of it. All the co-authors in this book have explained their opinions and imaginations through their stories. Fiction or Non-fiction, these stories are a part of our thinking. A lot of creative freedom has been given to them by The Cog Publication to express as they felt. Just like people use their strengths in doing what they like, we used our strengths in writing. Our major strengths are our creative imagination and mindset. Each story in this book contains a different perspective and a different concept. Each author has put their minds and souls into writing their hearts out in these stories. This book can’t be categorized under one genre; it contains a lot of elements like supernatural, thriller, psychological, romance, crime, wit, humour and many more.
A varied selection of short stories by 18 notable authors who have shared some of their best works to bring about a mix of romance, drama, adventure, tragedy and a number of works to inspire the reader.
