Margaret Mitchell was as complex and compelling as her legendary heroine, Scarlett O’Hara, and her story is as dramatic as anything out of her own imagination—indeed, it is the basis for the legend she created. Gone With the Wind took the American reading public by storm and went on to become the most popular motion picture of all time. It was a phenomenon whose success has never been equaled—and it shattered Margaret Mitchell’s private life. In this commemorative reprint of Road to Tara, Anne Edwards tells the real story of Margaret Mitchell and the extraordinary novel that has become part of our heritage.

An unorthodox musician from the start, singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell's style of composing, performing, and of playing (and tuning) the guitar is unique. In the framework of sexual difference and the gendered discourses of rock this immediately begs the questions: are Mitchell's songs specifically feminine and, if so, to what extent and why? Anne Karppinen addresses this question focusing on the kind of music and lyrics Mitchell writes, the representation of men and women in her lyrics, how her style changes and evolves over time, and how cultural context affects her writing. Linked to this are the concepts of subjectivity and authorship: when a singer-songwriter sings a song in the first person, about whom are they actually singing? Mitchell offers a fascinating study, for the songs she writes and sings are intricately woven from the strands of her own life. Using methods from critical discourse analysis, this book examines recorded performances of songs from Mitchell's first nine studio albums, and the contemporary reviews of these albums in Anglo-American rock magazines. In one of the only books to discuss Mitchell's recorded performances, with a focus that extends beyond the seminal album Blue, Karppinen explores the craft of Mitchell's songwriting and her own attitudes towards it, as well as the dynamics and politics of rock criticism in the 1960s and 1970s more generally.
This classic text retains the superb scholarship of the first edition in a thoroughly revised and accessibly written new edition. With both new and updated essays by distinguished American and Canadian authors, the book provides a comprehensive historical overview of the formation and growth of North American regions from European exploration and colonization to the second half of the twentieth century. Collectively the contributors explore the key themes of acquisition of geographical knowledge, cultural transfer and acculturation, frontier expansion, spatial organization of society, resource exploitation, regional and national integration, and landscape change. With six new chapters, redrawn maps, a new introduction that explores scholarly trends in historical geography since publication of the first edition, and a new final chapter guiding students to the basic sources for historical geographic enquiry, North America will be an indispensable text in historical geography courses.

Twenty years ago, Emily Andrews was abducted from her home and made a slave on the world of Vandhaqa, there to serve an ancient race known as the Adhal. Called Taiyiha and remade by the Adhal's power, Emily and those captured with her must submit to their deepest, most intimate passions as their souls are harvested to feed the high art of their overlords, even as they cling to dreams of distant Earth. But after the Adhal collapse into war and chaos and the slaves are liberated, true freedom still proves elusive, for the Taiyiha have been changed and Earth is not as any of them remember it. So now Emily has returned to Vandhaqa, seeking the justice and answers denied her for so long. In the journey that follows, she must face not only those who enslaved her but a deeper bondage more profound than any even her old masters could have imagined. With an erotic narrative that alternates between the familiar world of our own time and an alien one seeped in mystery, Karen Anne Mitchell's second novel examines both the nature of real freedom and the challenge of love.
-This is a true story about me - a young teenage girl trapped in a relationship with a professional boxer who was a street - fighter and gang leader. He completely controlled my life through severe physical, mental and verbal abuse. After becoming pregnant in my early teens, I found that there was no way out of the relationship and no possible avenue of escape, as everything I tried had failed. Eventually I gave up trying and embraced a path with him in order to survive. Marriage was on the doorstep when something radical happened that changed my destiny forever and unlike many others in an extremely violent relationship...I escaped to tell the story! Deborah A. All hail and welcome! Thank you for taking the interest to pick up this book either literally or in our modern, technological way. Whether on screen or paper, I hope you will be filled with a sense of connection through these pearls of wisdom. I started Goddesses Supporting Goddesses as a Facebook Community page with the mission of connecting and reconnecting with the Goddess energy about a year after a near death accident on a Mexican highway almost 5 years ago! As I evolved after near death and rebirth, so did my writing. You will see a significant shift between the beginning of the book and the end. I thought to begin the book with the writings more
