Are you searching for someone missing from your family tree? Ann was. Her husband, Chuck, was born out of wedlock in 1944 and raised by his mother, Mary Lou, and a stepfather. Chuck grew up an only child, thinking that his mother was the only blood relative he had. After his stepfather dies of a heart attack in 1966 and Mary Lou succumbs to cancer in 1972, Chuck needs to sell the family home. As Chuck and Ann clean everything out of Mary Lou's house, they unearth a shoebox full of love letters tied with a red ribbon. Postmarked during World War II and addressed to Mary Lou, the letters were written over a span of two and a half years-by an American pilot. Could he be Chuck's missing father? With no effective way to search and no one to ask, Chuck and Ann can only ponder and speculate. Until the world wide web comes into existence! Aided by the tools of the internet and her own tenacity, Ann embarks on a genealogical quest to unravel the mystery . . .
What are believers to do when belief and lived experience collide? Must the experience of suffering be hidden or pushed aside in favor of only “positive” expressions of praise during corporate worship? Focusing on the premise that “worship is not pain denial,” this book seeks to reveal the dearth of soul care within modern corporate worship, and the multidisciplinary approach needed to build and implement a more thorough approach that calls and enables believers to weep with those who weep, to bear one another’s burdens, and continue Christ’s ministry of reconciliation.

Lament does not seem to be a pervasive feature of the New Testament, particularly when viewed in relation to the Old Testament. A careful investigation of the New Testament, however, reveals that it thoroughly incorporates the pattern of Old Testament lament into its proclamation of the gospel, especially in the person of Jesus Christ as he both prays and embodies lament.-Provided by publisher"--Bloomsbury Publishing.
Drawing on her long experience as an academic researcher and writer, Ann Oakley develops a sociology of the research process itself, telling the story of how a research project is undertaken and what happens during it, to both researchers and those who are researched. This remarkable book focuses on a topic of great importance in the provision of health services – caring and social support. Setting neglect of this topic in the wider context of an ongoing crisis in gendering knowledge, Social support and motherhood is now reissued for a contemporary audience. It has much resonance for social science researchers and others interested in the experiences of mothers, and in the relations between social research, academic knowledge and public policy.
John F. Patterson founded Pinedale in 1904 after proposing the establishment of a town along Pine Creek in western Wyoming. Patterson offered to build and stock a general store if local ranchers Charles Petersen and Robert Graham would donate five acres each for the site. Petersen and Graham agreed to this plan, a surveyor was hired, and Pinedalenamed after the post office on Petersens ranchwas officially established. Free town lots were offered to early settlers, and Pinedale was incorporated in 1912, becoming the farthest incorporated town from a railroad, and later from a major highway, in the country. The community survived in fierce isolation, and the townspeople originally made their living supplying the ranchers, outfitters, and tie hacks. Ranching and tourism helped sustain Pinedale from the beginning, and in the 1990s, the community underwent a fundamental change with the introduction of natural-gas mining in the area. Pinedale residents continue to live and thrive on this harsh but beautiful land.
Theoretical Basis of Occupational Therapy, Third Edition shows the results of an exhaustive review of international peer-reviewed literature in occupational therapy and provides a synthesis of current theoretical developments in occupational therapy and occupational science. This helps occupational therapy students, researchers, and clinicians understand how to think about occupation, the many factors that affect occupation, and how to use occupation therapeutically to promote health and well-being. Unlike earlier editions, this updated Third Edition debuts during a time when even casual searchers can readily find huge amounts of information on the internet with the click of a search button. To remain relevant, this Third Edition goes beyond simply providing an annotated bibliography of peer-reviewed literature by also giving readers an analysis and synthesis of these documents in a clear and compelling organizational structure. Led by Mary Ann McColl, Mary Law, and Debra Stewart, Theoretical Basis of Occupational Therapy, Third Edition also offers an appendix that catalogs the literature included. In each of the determinants of occupation chapters, the contributors have extracted key themes, followed threads of theoretical development, reflected on external influences of occupational therapy theory, and commented particularly on developments over the last 15 years. New Features of the Third Edition: An updated database of articles A look at both determinants and consequences of occupation Further development of the three metaphors (the filing cabinet, toolbox, and telescope) that help organize and retrieve occupational therapy theory New contributing authors to supplement content New sections about the major named occupational therapy models Theoretical Basis of Occupational Therapy, Third Edition offers a classification system for theory, a digest of new developments in each area of the classification system, and a commentary on theoretical developments across theory areas that advance the knowledge and expertise of the profession as a whole.

For nearly 20 years, An Occupational Perspective of Health has been a valuable text for health practitioners with an interest in the impact of what people do throughout their lives. Now available in an updated and much-anticipated Third Edition, this unique text continues the intention of the original publication: it encourages wide-ranging recognition of occupation as a major contributor to all people’s experience of health or illness. It also promotes understanding of how, throughout the world, “population health” as well as individual well-being is dependent on occupation. At international and national levels, the role of occupation in terms of the physical, mental, and social health of all individuals and populations remains poorly understood and largely overlooked as an inevitable and constant factor. An Occupational Perspective of Health, Third Edition by Drs. Ann Wilcock and Clare Hocking, in line with directives from the World Health Organization (WHO), encourages practitioners of public health, occupational therapy and others to extend current thinking and practice and embrace a holistic view of how occupation and health interact. Addressed in the Third Edition: An explanation of how individual and population health throughout the world is impacted by all that people do A drawing together of WHO ideas that relate to health through occupation, and how people individually and collectively feel about, relate to others, and grow or diminish through what they do A multidisciplinary orientation to promote health and reduce illness by increasing awareness and understanding of the impact of occupations across sleep-wake continuums throughout lifespans and communities The connection of health and occupation is held to be fundamental, although ideas about both have altered throughout time as environments and cultures have evolved. To improve interdisciplinary understanding, An Occupational Perspective of Health, Third Edition explains the concepts of attaining, maintaining, or reclaiming population health through occupation. Instructors in educational settings can visit www.efacultylounge.com for additional materials to be used for teaching in the classroom. Practitioners and students of occupational therapy, health sciences, and public or population health will benefit from and relate to An Occupational Perspective of Health, Third Edition.
Occupational therapists are expected to maintain their knowledge of best practice by independently keeping up to date on the latest research. With this work, the authors have assembled the evidence for effectiveness of occupational therapy for adults and older adults. It brings together the latest published peer-reviewed literature, conceptual approaches, outcome measures, and intervention approaches to address the three main areas by: Identifying a finite set of interventions which occupational therapists deliver most often, and providing details of those intervention approaches; Identifying where the research evidence shows that occupational therapists can achieve specific positive effects as a result of those interventions; Identifying the outcome measures most commonly and reliably used by researchers in occupational therapy to demonstrate the effects of interventions. The authors have comprehensively reviewed all of the intervention effectiveness literature for occupational therapy provided for adults. The material reviewed crosses all diagnostic categories and areas of practice for adults and older adults. Analysis of over 500 research studies and systematic reviews form the basis for this book.
Barb Matheson doesn’t fit in: not on the Standing Rock Reservation where her mother was born; not at the mission in rural Ethiopia where she grew up; and certainly not at the Pennsylvania church where her husband preaches. Expansive and lyrical, Unfollowers is a tale of religious angst, unrequited love, and the upheaval of racial and economic privilege. Equally adrift on both sides of the Atlantic, Barb must negotiate the distance between white America and Africa, between the spirituality of her ancestors and the straight tones of evangelicalism, and between rules and grace. When a former lover crashes her daughter’s third birthday party, she’s offered the chance to find her way home to Ethiopia, leaving her to choose between a rote life in America and an improvised life abroad.
The existential threat posed by climate change presents a challenge to all those concerned about the next generation. This Element reviews and discusses its implications for the development of children (ages 0-12) today and in the future, and for the parents, teachers, researchers, and professionals who have responsibility for children. This Element adopts a bioecological model to examine both the direct impacts on children's physical and psychological well-being as well as indirect impacts through all the systems external to the child, emphasizing the greater vulnerability of children in the Global South. Given evidence of well-founded climate anxiety, this Element examines children's coping strategies and discusses the key roles of caregivers and schools in protecting and preparing children to face current and future challenges – with knowledge, hope, and agency as central themes. This Element highlights many under-researched areas and calls for action by all those caring for and about children's future.

In its updated 4th Edition it remains vital and, if anything, more important given the growing number of researchers and students investigating health issues and health services. It provides an impressively comprehensive overview of health research methods in which the wealth and variety of experience of the author shines through at every point. Qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods are appraised and explained with unpartisan authority and rigour, and the volume covers everything from multidisciplinary collaboration in health service evaluation through the Delphi technique of consensus development to the health economics needed to evaluate costing." Paul Stenner, Professor of Social Psychology, The Open University, UK "This excellent text really is a must for anyone involved in health research. It is truly multidisciplinary in its scope, drawing on a breadth of relevant research from health economics, to epidemiology to psychology which is beyond the scope of most books on research methods.
