Spreading from academia into mainstream media, the suggestion that diversity of doctrine in the early church led to many competing orthodoxies is indicative of today's postmodern relativism. Authors Köstenberger and Kruger engage Ehrman and others in this polemic against a dogged adherence to popular ideals of diversity. Köstenberger and Kruger's accessible and careful scholarship not only counters the "Bauer Thesis" using its own terms, but also engages overlooked evidence from the New Testament. Their conclusions are drawn from analysis of the evidence of unity in the New Testament, the formation and closing of the canon, and the methodology and integrity of the recording and distribution of religious texts within the early church.

An investigation of artists' engagement with technical systems, tracing art historical lineages that connect works of different periods. “Machine art” is neither a movement nor a genre, but encompasses diverse ways in which artists engage with technical systems. In this book, Andreas Broeckmann examines a variety of twentieth- and early twenty-first-century artworks that articulate people's relationships with machines. In the course of his investigation, Broeckmann traces historical lineages that connect art of different periods, looking for continuities that link works from the end of the century to developments in the 1950s and 1960s and to works by avant-garde artists in the 1910s and 1920s. An art historical perspective, he argues, might change our views of recent works that seem to be driven by new media technologies but that in fact continue a century-old artistic exploration. Broeckmann investigates critical aspects of machine aesthetics that characterized machine art until the 1960s and then turns to specific domains of artistic engagement with technology: algorithms and machine autonomy, looking in particular at the work of the Canadian artist David Rokeby; vision and image, and the advent of technical imaging; and the human body, using the work of the Australian artist Stelarc as an entry point to art that couples the machine to the body, mechanically or cybernetically. Finally, Broeckmann argues that systems thinking and ecology have brought about a fundamental shift in the meaning of technology, which has brought with it a rethinking of human subjectivity. He examines a range of artworks, including those by the Japanese artist Seiko Mikami, whose work exemplifies the shift.

According to the specific influencing factors of the Eurozone a recommendation of allocating equity portfolios with respect to industrial or regional factors is given by an empirical analysis. As most common and significant benchmark index for the Eurozone, the Dow Jones Euro STOXX 50 is analysed according to index effects. This serves as comparison and consideration of the active anticipations of index membership exchanges and a simple index investment during short- and long-term periods. Furthermore a correlation weighted equity index, established by different TMI industry indices of the Eurozone is calculated, which serves as benefit for diversification opportunities of two multidimensionally diversified and systamatically allocated multi asset portfolios. These portfolios are composed with reference towards the Portfolio Selection Theory by Harry M. Markowitz to test its practical relevance and validity during the challenging years from 2001 and 2010.

In dieser Arbeit wird das Problem der Stabilitätserhaltung für parametrische Modellreduktion mittels Matrixinterpolation untersucht. Hierfür werden die benötigten mathematischen Grundlagen aus der Systemtheorie eingeführt. Es werden darüber hinaus die beiden bekanntesten Modellreduktionsverfahren für lineare Systeme betrachtet und ein kurzer Überblick über verschiedene relevante Methoden zur parametrischen Modellreduktion gegeben. Die titelgebende Matrixinterpolation wird im Detail analysiert, und es werden die verschiedenen Schwierigkeiten des Verfahrens, als auch existierende Lösungen aus der Literatur, untersucht. Auf diesen aufbauend wird ein Verfahren zur Erweiterung von lokalen Unterräumen vorgeschlagen, während für die aus der Literatur bekannten Verfahren zur Stabilitätserhaltung mögliche Probleme aufgezeigt und neue theoretische Resultate gegeben werden. Es wird als Alternative ein neuartiges, flexibles Verfahren zur Stabilitätserhaltung vorgeschlagen, dessen potenzielle Vor- und Nachteile für zwei numerische Beispiele gezeigt werden. In this thesis the problem of stability preservation for parametric model order reduction by matrix interpolation is investigated. For this purpose the necessary mathematical fundamentals from system theory are given. Furthermore the two most popular model order reduction methods for linear systems are looked at and a brief introduction to various relevant methods for parametric model order reduction is given. The title giving matrix interpolation is analyzed in detail and its various problems, as well as solutions from literature, are studied. Based on these a procedure for the extension of local subspaces is given, whereas for the stability preservation methods known from literature possible problems are shown and new theoretical results are given. As an alternative a novel, flexible method for stability preservation is proposed and its potential pros and cons are shown for two numerical examples.

This book is the first to provide a cognitive analysis of the function of biological/medical metaphors in National Socialist racist ideology and their background in historical traditions of Western political theory. Its main arguments are that the metaphor of the German nation as a body that needed to be rescued from a deadly poison must be viewed as the conceptual basis rather than a mere propagandistic by-product of Nazi genocidal policies culminating in the Holocaust, and that this metaphor is closely related to the more general metaphor complex of the nation as a human body/person, which is deeply ingrained in Western political thought. The cognitive approach is crucial to understanding the nature and the origins of this metaphor complex because it goes beyond the rhetorical level by analyzing the ideological and practical implications of the conceptual mapping body-state in detail. It provides an innovative perspective on the problem of how the Nazis managed to ‘revive’ a clichéd metaphor tradition to the point where it became a decisive factor in European and world history. Musolff reveals how such a perspective allows us to explain why the body-state metaphor continues to be attractive for use in contemporary political theories.

How can technology-enhanced tasks be used to support oral communication in heterogeneous English as a Foreign Language (EFL) primary classrooms? This study explores pre-service and in-service teachers' cognitions on the use of technologyenhanced foreign language learning tasks in the young learners' classroom. The study investigates the aspects of technology-enhanced tasks that participants consider as having a relevant impact on the development of learners' oral communicative competence, the criteria participants consider relevant for the design of such tasks in ways that cater for the needs of heterogeneous groups, and the support participants consider helpful in order to create and implement such tasks. Data were collected by carrying out three small-scale technology-enhanced projects in EFL primary school classrooms in the German federal state of Baden-Württemberg. The findings suggest that technology-enhanced tasks are well suited to supporting heterogeneous groups of primary school children in speaking English. Andreas Kullick has taught at primary and secondary schools and has also worked as a teacher trainer in English language teaching. He holds a PhD from the University of Education in Schwäbisch Gmünd and has been a Senior Lecturer in English Language Teaching at the University of Augsburg since February 2024.
