Same as the three previous volumes: The Unavoidable Surgery, Holocaust and Redemption and Coexistence with Hagar's Offspring this book is another chapter in Jewish History and deals also with the old Arab-Israeli conflict. One of the problems is the important controversial issue of Transfer or Arab Deportation. The problem of Transfer of people in order to put an end to more wars and more blood sheds. Unfortunately, many countries had to use this means, including the United States (the Indians, Winfield Scott and the Cherokees, the inhabitants of Marshall Islands in order to enable the Americans to perform their Nuclear Tests, etc.). For several past and present experiences, the Deportation of Ethnic Minorities for the sake of improving the stability of the region was not considered a great violation of Human Rights. A Jewish Government, an Israeli Government that does not operate in this direction is not fulfilling its duties, is not functioning adequately, is betraying its voters and should be replaced. To attain Peace in the Middle East, the Arabs must recognize the right of Israel to exist as a Jewish State and stop their belligerent attitude towards Israel.

Although it was one of the most common experiences of combatants in World War I, captivity has received only a marginal place in the collective memory of the Great War and has seemed unimportant compared with the experiences of soldiers on the Western Front. During four years of fighting, approximately 8.5 million soldiers were taken captive, of whom nearly 2.8 million were Austro-Hungarians. This book is the first to consider in-depth the experiences of these prisoners during their period of incarceration. How were POWs treated in Russia? What was the relationship between prisoners and their home state? How were concepts of patriotism and loyalty employed and understood? Drawing extensively on original letters and diaries, Rachamimov answers these and other searching questions. In the process, major omissions in previous historiography are addressed. Anyone wishing to have a rounded history of the Great War will find this book fills a major gap.

Following the end of the Second World War, the main mission of the British Army in Palestine was to contain Jewish attacks and illegal immigration while the fate of the Mandate was being decided. With the decision of the UN General Assembly on 29th November 1947 to partition Palestine and the anticipated eruption of inter-communal violence, the Army was made responsible for the maintenance of law and order throughout Palestine until the termination of the Mandate on 15th May 1948.
