Bell (1847-1922) was a Scottish-born scientist, inventor, engineer and innovator who is credited with patenting the first practical telephone and founding the American Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T) in 1885. This lecture was delivered to the Society of Telegraph Engineers in London on 31 October 1877 and published by the Society the following year. The text is accompanied by 30 explanatory diagrams and illustrations.
