El fracaso no gusta, aunque es una realidad más habitual que el éxito y es algo que ha acompañado desde siempre al ser humano. El temor que tenemos a equivocarnos, a cometer errores y a la decepción, se debe en parte a cómo hemos sido educados. No se habla tanto sobre ello y, a diferencia de la cultura anglosajona, donde fallar es algo que se valora como un aprendizaje muy útil para futuros proyectos, en países como España está mal visto, y las críticas no se hacen esperar. Por ello, no es de extrañar que el miedo al fracaso sea la principal causa o el principal freno que tiene la gente a la hora de iniciar una aventura empresarial. Si bien la realidad es que en muchas ocasiones si se quiere tener éxito en la vida hay que ser capaz de arriesgarse, salir de la zona de confort, pasar a la acción y experimentar e intentar cosas nuevas. Este libro relata la experiencia personal, los errores que cometí y las muchas lecciones y aprendizajes que obtuve cuando lancé mi propia marca de sneakers: AWINGS, así como las vivencias y los desafíos a los que me enfrenté con otro proyecto empresarial en el que me embarqué. Desde una perspectiva única y personal, abordo todas las etapas que me llevaron desde el inicio, cuando estando trabajando para una empresa multinacional me planteo la idea de emprender, hasta el desarrollo de esa idea, la puesta en marcha del negocio y el desenlace final de Awings, todo ello a través de un sinfín de buenas y malas aventuras que sucedieron por el camino. La lectura recoge y explica de forma clara y detallada muchos de los errores que deben evitarse a la hora de emprender, así como los pasos y puntos clave que hay que intentar realizar de forma correcta para que un proyecto pueda llegar a buen puerto, y es por ello que el libro se dirija a todas aquellas personas inquietas que estén pensando en emprender un negocio o una actividad por su cuenta, que hayan dado ya los primeros pasos en este mundillo o que estén inmersos en su aventura emprendedora. También a aquellos que hayan finalizado su viaje porque creo que se sentirán identificados con el relato y con todo lo bueno y lo malo que me sucedió a mí. Cada historia en el mundo del emprendimiento es única y diferente, y cada persona lo vive de una manera distinta, aunque existen muchos puntos en común en el proceso de emprender, vivencias y experiencias que nos suceden donde coincidimos todos los emprendedores. Y es que no existe un manual del emprendedor como tal que explique los pasos que se deben tomar y cómo se deben de hacer las cosas a lo largo de cada etapa, aunque espero sinceramente que este libro pueda servir de ayuda y aportar claridad en ese aspecto.

At the landmark centennial anniversary of the 1917 Jones-Shafroth Act, which granted Puerto Ricans U.S. citizenship, the island confronts an unfolding humanitarian crisis initially triggered by an acute economic crisis surging since 2006. Analyzing large datasets such as the American Community Survey and the Puerto Rican Community Survey, this book represents the first comprehensive analysis of the socioeconomic and demographic consequences of “La Crisis Boricua” for Puerto Ricans on the island and mainland, including massive net outmigration from the island on a scale not seen for sixty years; a shrinking and rapidly aging population; a shut-down of high-tech industries; a significant loss in public and private sector jobs; a deteriorating infrastructure; higher sales taxes than any of the states; $74 billion in public debt plus another $49 billion in unfunded pension obligations; and defaults on payments to bondholders. This book also discusses how the socioeconomic and demographic outcomes differ among stateside Puerto Ricans, including recent migrants, in traditional settlement areas such as New York versus those in newer settlement areas such as Florida and Texas. Florida is now home to 1.1 million Puerto Ricans (essentially the same number as those living in New York) and received a full third of the migrants from the island to mainland during this time. Scholars interested in the transition of migrants into their receiving communities (regardless of the Puerto Rican case) will also find this book to be of interest, particularly with respect to the comparative analyses on earnings, the likelihood of being impoverished, and self-employment.

1.1 General Framework In most arid and semi-arid countries, water resource management is an issue that is both important and controversial. Most water resources experts now acknowledge that water conflicts are not caused by physical scarcity but are mainly due to poor water management (Rosegrant et al. 2002; Benoit and Comeau 2005; Comprehensive Assessment of Water Management in Agriculture 2007; Garrido and Dinar 2010, among others). The scientific and technological advances of the past 50 years have led to new ways to solve many water-related conflicts, often with tools that seemed unthinkable a few decades ago (Llamas 2005; Lopez-Gunn and Llamas 2008). This study deals with the estimation and analysis of Spain’s water footprint, both from a hydrological and economic perspective. Its ultimate objective is to report on the allocative efficiency of water and economic resources. This analysis can provide a transparent and multidisciplinary framework for informing and optimising water policy decisions, contributing at the same time to the implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive (WFD) (2000/60/EC). It also responds to the current mandate of the Spanish Ministry of Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs, which recently issued instructions for drafting river basin management plans in compliance with the EU Water Framework Directive, with a deadline of end of year 2009 and then every 6 years (BOE 2008).

This book offers an introduction to the theory of groupoids and their representations encompassing the standard theory of groups. Using a categorical language, developed from simple examples, the theory of finite groupoids is shown to knit neatly with that of groups and their structure as well as that of their representations is described. The book comprises numerous examples and applications, including well-known games and puzzles, databases and physics applications. Key concepts have been presented using only basic notions so that it can be used both by students and researchers interested in the subject. Category theory is the natural language that is being used to develop the theory of groupoids. However, categorical presentations of mathematical subjects tend to become highly abstract very fast and out of reach of many potential users. To avoid this, foundations of the theory, starting with simple examples, have been developed and used to study the structure of finite groups and groupoids. The appropriate language and notions from category theory have been developed for students of mathematics and theoretical physics. The book presents the theory on the same level as the ordinary and elementary theories of finite groups and their representations, and provides a unified picture of the same. The structure of the algebra of finite groupoids is analysed, along with the classical theory of characters of their representations. Unnecessary complications in the formal presentation of the subject are avoided. The book offers an introduction to the language of category theory in the concrete setting of finite sets. It also shows how this perspective provides a common ground for various problems and applications, ranging from combinatorics, the topology of graphs, structure of databases and quantum physics.
