In this monograph we focus on family entrepreneurship, a developing field that studies entrepreneurial behaviors of family, family members and family businesses by taking into account the possible interplays among them. We offer a conceptualization together with a review of the literature as well as a research agenda of this field. Our conceptualization of family entrepreneurship makes it possible to disentangle complex relationships that characterize the field while the review of the literature offers some examples of how entrepreneurial behaviors can be affected by the family business context. This book contains, in the form of concise papers of limited length, the proceedings of the 16th ESACT meeting that was held in Lugano, Switzerland, in April 1999. We hope it will become a useful resource of the most up-to-date information in animal cell technology, at least until the next meeting in 2001. Classical approaches for the use of animal cells (for example, production of virus vaccines) remain an important technology. However, it appears that major technological advances and major growth are occurring in other areas. Most importantly, protein production on the basis of recombinant DNA molecules transferred into animal cells appears to be an ever-increasing field of interest and innovation. Increasingly animal cells are being used as substrates for the study of gene activation and repression, and also for the more rapid production of small and moderate quantities of interesting proteins. Tissue engineering, somatic gene/cell therapy, organ-replacement technologies, and cell-based bio-sensors all contribute to a considerable widening of interest and research activity, based on animal cell technology.
This book examines in detail the role of transfontanellar pulsed and color Doppler imaging in the fetus and neonate. After an introductory chapter on the technical aspects of Doppler ultrasonography, its use in the normal neonate is considered. Results of the hemodynamic evaluation of 491 newborns aged from 32 weeks of gestation to 9 months by means of pulsed and color Doppler are reported. Normal values of the resistive index as determined by this technique are documented, and systolic, diastolic, and mean velocities in seven different vessels are presented. It is concluded that Doppler ultrasonography enables reliable analysis of arterial and venous velocities. Subsequent chapters examine the use of transfontanellar Doppler imaging in a variety of commonly encountered pathological conditions, including intracranial hemorrhage, hydrocephalus, hypoxic-ischemic brain damage, pericerebral collections, sinus thrombosis, intacranial infections and brain malformations.

In order to ensure a pedagogical presentation of the fundamentals, this book, which is based on 45 years of experience, endeavors to identify the main principles of the control scheme and its dynamics. The control loop is extensively developed because of the reference it constitutes in control. By establishing the control loop as equivalent to any other control or, more precisely, by making an elementary control loop appear, it becomes possible to reveal a part of this loop in other controls and, thanks to its regulator, qualitatively evaluate the control strategy. A comparative analysis then shows that the complexification of the control scheme does not necessarily go hand in hand with a better control strategy and therefore a better performance. Since robustness results from innovations in terms of performance desensitization, the CRONE control is presented, in view of the genuine domains of uncertainty taken into account and the small number of parameters to be optimized.
