Cultural mores in foreign countries, including exposure to different religious beliefs, are practical concerns when living as an expatriate in developing countries. The author's experiences in international travel, from castles and cathedrals in Europe to wild animal safaris in southern Africa, are meant to entertain the seasoned traveler, who has already shared these experiences, as well as the armchair tourist, who can enjoy this activity vicariously. While most of the book recalls events and personal experiences, some sociopolitical stances have necessarily been taken. Attempt is always made to present facts leading to the author's opinion. Motivation to write this book, however, was to share the author's international experiences, whether exciting or mundane.

The novel Black Talon, is a story of the intelligence war against worldwide terrorism and the people who are fighting this war. In Frankfurt, Germany, a new terrorist network has emerged, a splinter group of Al Queda. They are well along in their plans to launch a worldwide military strike against several North American and European targets with devastating weapons that they believe will bring down Western civilization in one blow. There are two main characters among a group of many. The first is an agent of the Central Intelligence Agency based in Frankfurt and the other is an FBI agent located in Dallas Texas. As the intelligence agencies of the Western powers become more aware of the plans of the terrorists they launch an all out search for the weapons they have laid in place or are about to place. The book is fast moving and riveting to the reader with the action taking place in such places as France, Spain, America, Istanbul and Algeria. Interlaced with the story and concerning the two main characters are romantic entanglements that take on some prominence. The race is on to find the weapons and time is running out. If the terrorists succeed in delivering their weapons the leaders of the Western powers know that they must retaliate with punishing blows to those who carried out the attacks and to those who supported them.

This book is the final outcome of a research project conducted by the author under the Bangladesh Film Archive Fellowship 2019-2020. The research has aimed to investigate the political cinema produced in Bangladesh during the 1970s, to understand how these films worked as the language of protest in the critical socio-political conditions of that time and to study the ways that these films are informed by the aesthetics of Third Cinema. In doing so, this research examines two films produced in two different political periods in post-independence Bangladesh—Abar Tora Manush Ho (1973) directed by Khan Ataur Rahman and Rupali Shoikotey (1979) directed by Alamgir Kabir. Through textual analysis of the films, the research finds that by being slightly indirect in representation, certain politically conscious films of Bangladesh worked as strong languages of protest and voiced important messages against the social and political problems in the existing system. With intense political content and transformation of traditional cinema techniques, the films express a notable harmony with Third Cinema.

You know MAD. Do you know Humbug? Harvey Kurtzman changed the face of American humor when he created the legendary MAD comic. As editor and chief writer from its inception in 1952, through its transformation into a slick magazine, and until he left MAD in 1956, he influenced an entire generation of cartoonists, comedians, and filmmakers. In 1962, he co-created the long-running Little Annie Fanny with his long-time artistic partner Will Elder forPlayboy, which he continued to produce until his virtual retirement in 1988. Between MAD and Annie Fanny, Kurtzman’s biographical summaries will note that he created and edited three other magazines―Trump, Humbug, and Help!―but, whereas his MAD and Annie Fanny are readily available in reprint form, his major satirical work in the interim period is virtually unknown. Humbug, which had poor distribution, may be the least known, but to those who treasure the rare original copies, it equals or even exceeds MAD in displaying Kurtzman’s creative genius. Humbug was unique in that it was actually published by the artists who created it: Kurtzman and his cohorts from MAD, Will Elder, Jack Davis, and Al Jaffee, were joined by universally acclaimed cartoonist Arnold Roth. With no publisher above them to rein them in, this little band of creators produced some of the most trenchant and engaging satire of American culture ever to appear on American newsstands.
