Kay, a young man has moved from the city to work in a regional centre. He lives in the countryside, in what was an abandoned 1950s house with a dog called Trail, and indulges his interest in an image of an Egyptian Princess from the Amarna period. He creates a shrine to her on his fireplace mantle, and by his observations to it, Kay accidentally invites communication on with the Princess’ world of Egypt in 1350 BCE. Time around Kay becomes unstable, and he finds himself waking in a forest near his house, with an enigmatic memory of a desert landscape, across which winds a track that leads to the City of Akhetaten, where the Princess lives. In spite of this re-occurring dream, he falls in love with a waitress. He tricks himself into thinking he can walk to the princess’ city and return to love the waitress, but his solution on to reconcile his dream with reality proves glib. Arriving in the city we find he is expected, called there, perhaps by the sorcery of a 9 year old black princess of Kush and the Egyptian an queen; however, their sorcery appears to have its own inherent instability. Except for the authority of the sun, all parties involved in Kay’s adventure are misaligned, and they struggle to fulfil their original intentions. After initially being arrested, Kay is given a tour of the city and encounters several notable people; the rebellious Princess of Kush, the humane Master of the Road, the outsider Chief of Police Mahu, and the haunted General Ramose. He meets the princess of the shrine, and her sisters, and in the Mansion of the Aten, he experiences the sun-god. Because Kay is dreaming, he cannot sleep and grows weaker, until a social catastrophe forces him to flee. Now he must discover what there is at the other end of the track across the desert.

Having searched these long and lonely years, for “a new kind of normal”, I realized that with recognition of life gone there was realization of new beginnings, without guilt, through the process of creating new, sweet, precious memories. Realizing there is HOPE, JOY and PEACE, knowing without a doubt that my heavenly Father loves me more than life itself. That is where I gained my trust. Normal is different for everyone. For me, there was nothing normal about losing my spouse so suddenly at a young age, but then, what’s normal about a kind, gentle man being crucified, spit upon, beaten until blood ran down his face, hands and sides, cursed, and then left to hang on an old rugged cross while his mother sat and watched, weeping for the loss of her son. It was HOPE, JOY and PEACE knowing her heavenly Fathers hands were holding her. Even though she KNEW it was not a normal kind of death, in the eyes of God, it was right. He ordained it as His will. HIS perfect plan was in place. Now, mine has not been three days, but then again, I am certain that Jesus felt as though it was years as he went through the torture he experienced, uttering those last words, “It is FINISHED.” But GOD had another plan. Completeness came, as He said it would, with His son’s resurrection. It is only by TRUST and FAITH in Him, that you can walk the depths of this darkness.

People believe what they want to believe. It is a striking-yet all too familiar-fact about human beings that our belief-forming processes can be so distorted by fears, desires, and prejudices that an otherwise sensible person may sincerely uphold a false claim about the world despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. When we describe someone as being "in denial," we mean that he or she is personally threatened by some set of facts and consequently fails to assess the situation properly according to the evidence, instead arguing and interpreting evidence in light of a pre-established conclusion. In a world polarized over politics, culture, race, and religion, it is evident that ideological commitments can influence one's perception of reality in socially destructive ways, especially when one perceives a threat to these commitments. When group interests, creeds, or dogmas are threatened by unwelcome factual information, biased thinking can become ideological denialism. This is a problem that affects everybody: Whereas denial can interfere with individual well-being, ideological denialism can stand in the way of urgent advancements in public policy. This book offers an accessible, historically and scientifically informed overview of our understanding of denial and denialism. Adrian Bardon introduces the reader to the latest developments in the interdisciplinary study of denial, and then investigates the role of human psychology and ideology in, respectively, science denial, economic policy, and religious belief.
