The world keeps taunting him as girlish but the fact is that, biologically, he is a boy. And, he is always attracted to guys. Is Laxmi both a man and a woman? Or, perhaps, neither a man nor a woman? The first inklings and stirrings of lust that Laxmi remembers came from noticing big, strong arms, the hint of a guy's moustache over his lips, billboards that advertised men's underwear. Laxmi found this puzzling initially. Was there a woman inside him who couldn't really express herself because of some last-minute mix-up that god did at the time of his birth? Struggling with such existential questions, Laxmi Narayan Tripathi, eminent transgender activist, awakens to her true self: She is Laxmi, a hijra. In this fascinating narrative Laxmi unravels her heart to tell the stories of the men-creators, preservers, lovers, benefactors, and abusers-in her life. Racy, unapologetic, dark and exceptionally honest, these stories open a window to a brave new world.
Fiber Crop–Based Phytoremediation: Socio-economic and Environmental Sustainability provides an informative source of information on using fiber crops for phytoremediation. Phytoremediation is gaining attention globally due to ever-increasing numbers and areas of industrially polluted sites. The major challenge is to develop new and cost-effective solutions to decontaminate polluted sites. In this regard, plant-based remediation, especially using fiber crops, is a promising and cost-effective approach for environmental remediation on a large-scale due to its socio-economic and ecological sustainability. Furthermore, changing environmental conditions also cause various biotic and abiotic stresses in fiber crops and thereby negatively affect the fiber crop establishment, growth and yield. This book will be specifically important to these readers who need to be able to select specific fiber crop species according to site-specificity of the contaminated site. - Provides up-to-date research and understanding on how to utilize fiber crops for the phytoremediation of contaminated land - Covers a wide range of applicable fiber crops, including bast, grass and woody crops, allowing for the utilization of techniques regardless of specific fiber crop - Details the uses and benefits of fiber crop phytoremediation on environmental, societal and economic development
Antiarrhythmic drugs play a key role regarding abnormal heart rhythms. Anti-arrhythmic drugs are divided into different classes dependent on their primary mechanism of action. These drugs are regarded as into four main categories such as class I (sodium channel blockers), class II(beta _ blockers), class III (potassium channel blockers) and class IV (calcium channel blockers). Class I anti arrhythmics specifically act on sodium channels, which play a role in the initiation and conduction of action potentials particularly in Cardiac cells. Class II anti arrhythmics act by decreasing the effects of adrenaline on the heart. Class III antiarrhythmics affect potassium channels and carry on the repolarization phase of the Cardiac action potential. Potential class IV antiarthmics stop calcium influx during depolarization and result in acdecrement in the heart rate and the forcec of contraction. Finally it is concluded that anti arrhythmic drugs play a critical role in managing various vtyoes of arrhythmias.

Surrender to the supreme knowledge that everything is impermanent, you will find true miracle in life… Pooja Lamba Cheema's book on her experience of Vipassana meditation and the self realization that follows is an astonishing work. Her writing is superb: spare, powerful, evocative and highly effective. An uplifting virtuoso performance that will reward the engaged reader. – Dr. Shashi Tharoor, author and Member of Parliament Tired of battling melancholy and regret and wanting to find a purpose in her directionless life, the author decides to go away to a Vipassana ashram to explore the depths of her mind and come away free of the emotional baggage that she knows is impeding her life. Aware of the rigours of this form of meditation, she is nevertheless unprepared for the frightening loneliness and solitude of the ashram, where one is required to meditate for ten and a half hours every day for ten days in complete silence. Battling the demons from her past and trying valiantly to achieve the miracles she is hoping for – including writing her very first book based on her experiences in the ashram – she unfortunately encounters defeat and severe disillusionment. It is only when she surrenders to the knowledge that everything is impermanent in life, that the true miracle of life is revealed to her. Vipassana: The Journey of a Thousand Steps is a beautiful, moving soliloquy of suffering, hardship, sorrow and surrender, set in the cradle of the mystical Aravali hills near Delhi, and shows the beauty and poignancy of pain and the futility of struggle. It is a story that all readers can identify with as a microcosm of their own lives of defeat and triumph, trials and tribulations. It is a story of strength and courage and hope and ends with the author emerging from the ashes of her dreams like the proverbial phoenix.
