The book aims to continue and expand the conversations emerging from the margins of peace studies about race and racism, and their implications for the field. Especially drawing from the often-overlooked African diasporic critical and philosophical tradition —with an emphasis on Africana phenomenology and existentialism— the book addresses questions that are central in Africana thought yet remain under-explored in peace studies. This enables to rethink peace studies’ assumptions, conceptual frameworks, and epistemic and normative elements. Inter- or transdisciplinary dialogue requires a profound re-evaluation of what constitutes the exclusions in both knowledge and politics. This, in turn, necessitates a critical examination of the structures and organization of knowledge, a deeper understanding of the field’s identity, its foundational narratives and presuppositions, a reassessment of the relations with other disciplines and areas of knowledge, and the histories, the subjects and the forms of agency that it privileges. Taking race and racism seriously through African diasporic thought entails, among others, reconsidering the ties of peace studies with international relations and liberal political theory, bringing to the forefront the question of freedom, examining the relationship between the ethical and the political, and complicating the distinction between violence and nonviolence.

Near field communication devices and the emerging field of Internet of things require efficient short range communication techniques. Classical telecommunication theory however has so far focused on radiating electromagnetic signals which is more suited to terrestrial communication systems. Over the last decade however considerable research and applications of inductive methods have emerged as innovative approaches for secure short range communications by changing the paradigm of an established model of electromagnetic communications. We have witnessed the emergence of embedded inductive medical devices, magneto-inductive waveguides, inductive pots and cooking devices, magneto-inductive sensors, wireless power transfer, inductive hearing aids and the emerging inductive point-to-point communication specifically termed near-field communication (NFC) as used in mobile phones and payment cards to name a few. While there exist a large set of distributed methods and algorithms detailing the design and performances of such applications, a significant gap is observed as a lack of detailed collection of the methods in one place which could be easily understood and used quickly by someone seeking to apply the methods.In this book this missing gap is filled with the required details and the theory of near field communication systems including both the radiating and reactive (energy coupling) near-field systems in addition to the well known far field radiation techniques. The book details the fundamental expressions and design methods which facilitate the creation of near field devices and equipment including embedded biomedical implants. The book contains recent advances in inductive communications, performance, limitations and a collection of applications. It also lays a strong foundation for the application of inductive methods for creating Internet of Things systems.

Some of the popular games discussed include Baduk (the Korean version of 'Go', a strategic board game for two players), Janggi (the Korean version of chess) and Yutnori (a game played with four short sticks). The author also discusses games played by young boys (e.g. flying kites) and young girls (e.g. hide-and-seek), men (e.g. archery) and women (e.g. seesaw), and pastimes enjoyed by both sexes (e.g. tug of war). Lee examines the origin of family names and common people's obsession with genealogy during the Joseon dynasty. He also discusses the important ceremonies celebrating milestones in one's life as well as ceremonies associated with various holidays on the calendar. The last segment of the book is devoted to people's interest in fortune-telling. The author discusses behaviors that were considered taboo and the various ways people tried to predict their future.

This chapter reports the detailed study on the synthesis of nanofluids comprising very low concentrations of nanometric metallic or ceramic particles, rods, tubes, etc. The most common ways of preparing nanofluids are the one-step and two-step methods. While the one-step approach usually yields more stable nanofluids, the two-step method is more versatile as it provides the opportunity to disperse a wide variety of nanoparticles in different types of base fluids. However, the main focus of this chapter is on the thermal conductivity of nanofluids, which is the most researched aspect of nanofluids worldwide. An insight into the different parameters that influence the thermal conductivity of nanofluids is presented. In addition to experimental work, the theories used to try to analyze the cause of the anomalous increase in thermal conductivity are also presented.

This book presents a broad and well-structured overview of various non-Fourier heat conduction models. The classical Fourier heat conduction model is valid for most macroscopic problems. However, it fails when the wave nature of the heat propagation becomes dominant and memory or non-local spatial effects become significant; e.g., during ultrafast heating, heat transfer at the nanoscale, in granular and porous materials, at extremely high values of the heat flux, or in heat transfer in biological tissues. The book looks at numerous non-Fourier heat conduction models that incorporate time non-locality for materials with memory, such as hereditary materials, including fractional hereditary materials, and/or spatial non-locality, i.e. materials with a non-homogeneous inner structure.
